Here is how to use the shield with good results: (1) Make sure the shield is compatible with your bowl. (2) Mix in dry ingredients on LOW speed. It will keep the flour from flying out of the bowl. (3) Pour liquids slowly, hitting the spout on the shield. It will flow down to the sides of the bowl. This is especially convenient for incorporating sugar water into egg whites. I love my shield and use it every time I use the mixer. I have had my setup for over 24 years and have made over 1,000 cakes with it. I am a very messy cook and the shield has been a lifesaver.

A few months ago i purchase a Kitchen stand mixer. it came with a glass bowl. After several uses i decided that i wanted the pouring shield to stop the flour and other dry ingredients from flying out of the bowl. When i went to purchase this shield i found that it dose not fit on a glass bowl, which forced me to buy a new stainless steel bowl to use with my mixer. Today as I used the pouring shield for the first time i discovered the shield does not work at all. In fact it made a bigger mess then would have without the shield. I have come to the conclusion that the pouring shield is a cheap and poorly made product that is way over priced and i complete waste of money. From this product to work right, Kitchen Aid needs to make it fit tightly and securely to the bowl. as make it a complete circle instead of partial circle.

Comments about KitchenAid Mixer Stand Pouring Shield:
Terrible design! It doesn't fit securely to the bowl and even when it is "in place", the pour spout is extremely small and doesn't butt up to the bowl so you are STILL getting flour everywhere, even though you can only add the tiniest quantity at one time. Plus, the slightest bump or jiggle (like, say, when a mixer is MIXING) the stupid thing literally falls off!!! I am extremely disappointed in this accessory.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Awful & frustrating
from New York, NY
Doesn't fit and CONSTANTLY comes loose and jangles around. It adds a massive amount of frustration EVERY time I use what is otherwise a wonderful mixer. I hate this accessory so much.
Does not fit

I just bought the shield online and couldn'5 believe it wouldn't fit my stand mixer! I thought it must be the wring size but it is supposedly for a 4.5 OR 5 quart. I have a 5qt. Extremely disappointed and wished I had read all the reviews so I wouldn'5 waste my time and money. Hopefully with enough poor reviews Kitchenaid will make a separate shield for the 5qt.

Everything about the mixer is well designed, except this.

Do not understand why they even sell this item. Terrible design, does not fit and warped so will not even rest on the mixing bowl.
The shield works extremely well. It was a great addition to my Mixer.

Pouring Shield doesn't fit right
from Bear, De
Just received the pouring shield for my 5 qt. mixing bowl. The shield does not fit. Not even close to being a snug fit. Falls off if bumped or hit accidentally while using mixer. Very disappointed in product and will be returning.

Poor quality and worse design
from Lumberton, NC
Like many of my fellow reviewers, I came to this site to look for instructions on how to attach the pouring shield for my daughter's new 5-quart Artisan. As I began to read the reviews, I quickly realized that the problem was not her inability to attach the shield but the shield itself. It astounds me that a supposedly high-quality appliance would have such an obviously cheap and poorly designed accessory. This mixer was a Christmas gift for my daughter. She couldn't wait to use it; and five minutes after setting it up, she realized the shield is junk. I hope this is not an omen.

Although I LOVE my mixer, I went to use the pouring shield today and it doesn't fit at all. This came with my mixer, not bought separately. I am very disappointed as I was looking forward to using it.

Bought this to fit my new KSM95 stand mixer. It doesn't fit. It is loose, falls off if you bump it, and has a huge opening facing the mixer, which just allows stuff to fly around. Biggest issue though is the lack of fit. You have to carefully push and pull until it's balanced precariously on the rim. The first time anything moves, it falls.

After years of wanting a Kitchen Aid Mixer, I finally purchased one. I cannot get the pouring shield to stay on the bowl. It does not fit. I have researched my problem and it seems I am not the only one. I guess it is just good to keep flour, etc. from flying out of bowl.
