Here is how to use the shield with good results: (1) Make sure the shield is compatible with your bowl. (2) Mix in dry ingredients on LOW speed. It will keep the flour from flying out of the bowl. (3) Pour liquids slowly, hitting the spout on the shield. It will flow down to the sides of the bowl. This is especially convenient for incorporating sugar water into egg whites. I love my shield and use it every time I use the mixer. I have had my setup for over 24 years and have made over 1,000 cakes with it. I am a very messy cook and the shield has been a lifesaver.

A few months ago i purchase a Kitchen stand mixer. it came with a glass bowl. After several uses i decided that i wanted the pouring shield to stop the flour and other dry ingredients from flying out of the bowl. When i went to purchase this shield i found that it dose not fit on a glass bowl, which forced me to buy a new stainless steel bowl to use with my mixer. Today as I used the pouring shield for the first time i discovered the shield does not work at all. In fact it made a bigger mess then would have without the shield. I have come to the conclusion that the pouring shield is a cheap and poorly made product that is way over priced and i complete waste of money. From this product to work right, Kitchen Aid needs to make it fit tightly and securely to the bowl. as make it a complete circle instead of partial circle.

1-Piece Pouring Shield

I bought my mixer today and the pouring shield does not attach properly.
Doesn't fit at all.
from Stone Mountain, GA
I bought my mixer in July and just bought the pouring shield today. The box says it fits a 5 qt bowl lift model which is what I have. It doesn't fit at all. I will be returning the shield tomorrow.

I just got my mixer in last week and used it for the first time today. I absolutely Love it but the shield is not "clicking" into place! It is very flimsy and just slides around. I really thought of kitchen aid being the best of the best but the shield disappointed me!

If you've ever created a bit of a mess when adding ingredients to your mixing bowl, you need this! One of the best accessories ever! Gives you more control and stops those irritating and messy spills. Loving it!

Simply doesn't do the job it was meant too
from Ontario, Canada
I recently purchased my mixer and I love everything about except for this shield. It doesn't attach properly, it's flimsy and is more hassle than what it's worth. Slowly poring half a cup of white sugar down the 'spout' was enough to make it dislodge. It simple doesn't work. It may minimize some splashing if it were capable of staying attached. So frustrating.
Not so Great
from Clinton, MA
This shield came with my mixer. It does not "click" on, so I find it falls in and moves around every time I try to add something to the chute. It does not prevent splashes very well, since stuff seems to fly out of the open section 1/4 section. I think the mixer works the same without it, to tell you the truth. If the guard snapped onto the lid of the bowl, it would work much better.

Pouring shield not worth using
The mixer is wonderful! The pouring shield is not! It does not stay on the bowl. if slightly bumped or you pour ingredients in too fast, the shield ends up falling into the bowl and makes a huge mess. I just stop the mixer and add my ingredients. Then continue on.

We bought our Kitchenaid mixer many years ago and have never been disappointed with any of their products UNTIL now. We own many attachments that have worked wonderfully and have built a high level of trust with Kitchenaid products. I honestly didn't feel the need to read any reviews because of that trust. So it was a major shock to my husband and I to witness such a piece of junk! We also purchased the Kitchenaid food processor and blender along with the pouring shield in the same day. I sure hope they aren't as big a disappointment. My kitchen is now covered in flour and both of us are left with frustration after using this product. PLEASE, for goodness sakes, fix this horrible product.
Works great for me!
My mixer is about 5 years old. It came with the pouring shield. I love it! I should note that whenever I add an ingredient, I make sure to consider the speed setting, and may lower it a tad...just for the sake of physics! Never had a problem!
