Here is how to use the shield with good results: (1) Make sure the shield is compatible with your bowl. (2) Mix in dry ingredients on LOW speed. It will keep the flour from flying out of the bowl. (3) Pour liquids slowly, hitting the spout on the shield. It will flow down to the sides of the bowl. This is especially convenient for incorporating sugar water into egg whites. I love my shield and use it every time I use the mixer. I have had my setup for over 24 years and have made over 1,000 cakes with it. I am a very messy cook and the shield has been a lifesaver.

A few months ago i purchase a Kitchen stand mixer. it came with a glass bowl. After several uses i decided that i wanted the pouring shield to stop the flour and other dry ingredients from flying out of the bowl. When i went to purchase this shield i found that it dose not fit on a glass bowl, which forced me to buy a new stainless steel bowl to use with my mixer. Today as I used the pouring shield for the first time i discovered the shield does not work at all. In fact it made a bigger mess then would have without the shield. I have come to the conclusion that the pouring shield is a cheap and poorly made product that is way over priced and i complete waste of money. From this product to work right, Kitchen Aid needs to make it fit tightly and securely to the bowl. as make it a complete circle instead of partial circle.

Comments about KitchenAid Mixer Stand Pouring Shield:
Just received my very 1st artisian 5.0 mixer yesterday as an early Christmas gift from my husband. While using it for the 1st time today we noticed that the pouring shield doesn't stay on while the machine is mixing..totally disappointing....during mixing the shield falls off the bowl..This really needs to be fixed and corrected.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pouring shield doesn't function properly
By First time KA owner

I've had my new kitchen Aid mixer for a few days. It's my first one. I came on here in search of instructions to use the shield because mine keeps falling off. I assumed I wasn't attaching it correctly so I am sad to see so many others with the same experience. Wish the pouring shield fit properly and stayed put!!

Don't buy the pouring shield!
from Saint Louis
The pouring shield, directly out of the box with the mixer off still does not stay on the bowl. This item needs to be redesigned so that it stays in place. DO NOT BUY THIS ACCESSORY!
the pouring shield is not stable. its a flimsy piece of plastic that does not stay on the bowl. the second you touch it with a spoon or move the bowl, its off. they need to work on this and allow it to lock on
Disappointed in the product

The pouring shield is the only thing I dislike about my Artisan. I just received my Artisan before Halloween and I keep trying to give the shield a chance but its a waste of time! I spend more time trying to keep the shield on the bowl (which still doesn't prevent flour from going everywhere) then I do mixing! It amazes me that KitchenAid sees all these reviews and hasn't provided a solution. I can't even return it because it came with my mixer.

Very Disapointing Accessory
from Grafton, WI
I was so excited to move up from my 25 year old 4.5qt Kitchen Aid mixer to my new 6qt, beautiful red! It's the day before Thanksgiving and I'm using it for the first time. Probably my first mistake. It's a bit clumsy to use, but I'm sure that I can overcome. My problem is with the pouring shield! IT DOES NOT WORK! It has little tabs that seem like they should snap on to the rim but it does not stay in place. The shield pops right off and falls off the bowl. I chatted live on the KitchenAid website, only to be told it's not intended to snap on the rim. It just sits there. Well it does not just sit there, it falls off. It's a piece of junk. So disappointed. :(

Needs Major Re-design
from Salt Lake City, Utah
After reading the one star reviews on this pouring shield, I contacted KitchenAid customer service expressing desire to purchase a pouring shield but I had reservations due to the poor reviews. I was told and I quote, "I would like to reassure you if there were any issues with out products that were out of the 'norm' our engineering team would be addressing the issue." The representative also said, "Many of the reviews do not indicated how the pouring shield was stored, or if it was dropped accidentally." Perhaps the key phrase here is "out of the norm." This shield slides around the rim of the metal bowl and does not fit tightly. I had the speed setting on #3 while placing flour in a cookie batter so it was at a slow speed. I used a heaping tablespoon of flour when placing it in the batter and it not only threw flour out of the pouring shield opening but also threw it between the top of the bowl and the bottom of the pouring shield. I used a tablespoon so I could place small amounts of flour (five cups total) hoping it would mix in before I placed another tablespoon of flour. Perhaps KitchenAid engineers don't consider throwing flour all over the kitchen counter 'out of the norm." I would not waste your money on this pouring shield.

I love my mixer, but the pour shield is TERRIBLE! I've had 2 replacements sent to me-all of which DO NOT stay on or work. It falls off when mixer is running (or not running) causing flour and other ingredients to fly all over the place. I hope that with all of these low reviews that the company would look into redesigning this pour shield soon and send all registered customers with a new one. I would give this pour shield less that one star if I could so only giving it one because I have to. I had a Kitchenaid mixer for 35 years prior to replacing with this new one-that pour shield was EXCELLENT!! Make it like that again.
Brought this from a a local store thinking it will help with all the splattering. I am very disappointed with it. It's very thin I am afraid of washing it, thinking it might crack. It is suppose to fit 4.5 to 5 qt bowls...it fits but there are gaps that make whatever is in the bowl still splatter out even on low speed...didn't even expect to have such a big gap in the back of the shield. If it's a shield shouldn't it be all closed in? I already used it, don't think I would be able to return it. I don't even want to rate this, but it won't let me summit without rating it.
