GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 Bisque Microwave Oven - PVM1870DMCC

Our oven died at the 2 year mark. [...] purchase the extended warrenty, which is needed if you plan to buy this product. When reseaching repairs I found that the power source failure, which we experienced is common. So save your money on this product becasue it will cost you to buy, install, repair/replace.

I have only had this microwave for a few weeks. it is very easy to use and it is the first time I have had a matching stand alone stove and microwave.I love the way the look together. In the past I have always had low end GE microwaves and never had any complaints.

Purchased in April 2009 for a vacation home, so it is used roughly 1/3 of the year. Stopped working in July 2010, ran but would not heat. Changed mag tube. Stopped working again in Jun 2011, same problem.

We loved this microwave so much that we bought it twice. Our first one cooked itself when our daughter accidentally meant to set the timer for forty five minutes for something she was cooking in the oven, but instead hit the time cook button. It would be helpful if GE could find a way to stop that from happening, but that's the only reason it didn't get five stars. That said, we looked around for different microwaves, but just went back to this one because we loved it so much. We use it primarily for reheating. It's tough to get the top stable shelf to heat at the same temp as the turntable items. Hard to get grease spatters from stove off the stainless steel, but that's true with any microwave.

I bought this to a replace a 1200W Panasonic and this this is more powerful than my Panasonic. Love the 1 touch cook options for various times and add 30 seconds. No complaints so far after 4 weeks of fairly heavy use.

This Microwave looks great and cooks very well. we replaced a 14 year old white GE Profile that cost more to fix than to replace. We are changing to all stainless as they go. The dishwasher just got replaced recently too. The old micro had a little better/brighter over the cook top light system (2 bulbs vs. 1) and it also had a auto night light feature but we we've learned to live without pretty easily.

We are big microwave users--mostly for reheating left-overs, popping popcorn, and making s'mores (only 8 seconds). This is so quiet and fits in perfectly with all the other stainless appliances in our kitchen.

After hitting ALL the review and product ratings websites, and looking at the store my wife and I decided to buy GE Profile when we wanted to upgrade and install an over-the-range microwave. We had some very clear points that we wanted in a microwave and range set and feel that GE Profile really is quality. So let me talk about the microwave here since we've had it over a month and put it through it's paces with a family of five. The GE Profile PVM1870SMS has everything we wanted and does it right. This microwave is a vast improvement over past microwaves we've owned. It heats evenly and quickly. When reheating a dinner plate I have not found the typical hot and cold spots, its very good here. The one button beverage heat really does the job well too. My 6 yr old daughter and 13 yr old son both tell me that the popcorn feature works perfectly every time. This microwave handles big dishes and is very roomy. The controls are intuitive and are configured well. We passed on some higher end models just because they were too complex. Lighting - something you might not think of when looking at these products, and other stores don't have them set up where you can compare. Many brands do a poor job of lighting your cook-top. They either have a single lamp that is under powered or the location is poor. This model has two lamps with a high and low setting - so thumbs up for GE. The only thing they could have done better was to move them closer to the front. Go to Abt, and check them out, play with the features and then buy this one! If you're reading about fan noise in comments you need to ignore these for the most part. Any fan that is going to move heat and smoke properly will make some noise. However you do get what you pay for, we compared lower priced models and brands and some are better than others. The XL1800 is better than most, I have it venting through a duct instead of back into the room although both options are fine. Looks great, and does a great job!

The control panel is harder to read on this new model, they put more information in the same space as the old model. I had the older version and it was easier to read.

Works fine No problems

This microwave was easy to install if you have general handyman traits. Save your self the installation change and at least try yourself. It runs nice and quiet and has some nice features. The only complaint I can think of is that its a little deeper than we hoped so it sticks out about an inch farther than we would like.

I've had GE kitchen appliances in the past and what I have experienced on a consistent basis is that they tend to break down every five years or so and require a large cash outlay--that is if the parts are even available. Despite this, I bought this same model again as I needed to fit a unique space in my condo and this was the easiest and quickest way to replace and fit the aesthetics/space appropriately. Overall I would avoid buying GE appliances if you have a choice.

Use it from heating water to thawing, to heating up left overs. Matches my oven so the look it adds to my kitchen is fantastic!It's a big size so make sure to measure before buying. I was lucky, mine fit well but it still hangs a bit lower than the other one I had.[...]

The interior is larger but still fits the space of our previous microwave/hood.

The nice thing is that this product fit my original mount from my old microwave so installation was a snap. The only problem I encountered is that the power cord is about 1-foot shorter than my older model. I had to put in an extension cord to make it work.

This is a great looking and performing unit. Highly recommended.
