I use my burr grinder everymorning and paired with delicious coffee beans I have never had a more enjoyable at home coffee experience. The grinder is a bit noisy, but quick so the noise doesn't last long. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the taste of coffee, on the other hand, if you are not a coffee aficionado, I would recommend getting a smaller, lighter, less bulky grinder which may not have the quality, but will get the job done.

Watch out for big variations in grind size at a single setting. For instance, at an 8 setting 50% is espresso(300-400 microns), 30% is medium, and 20% is coarse(1000 microns). This makes it hard to select a setting that will be perfect for a particular brew(drip, espresso). It results in lack of flavor or too much sediment.

Very dissapointed in the consistency of the ggrounds. There is a large variabilty in the size of the grounds for a particular setting. Even on the fine setting, 20% of the grounds are large(.5 millimeter), 50% good for drip, and 30% for expresso.

The slow grind and glass containers deliver a wonderfully consistent grind every time. Machine is quiet compared to most others. Very sturdy from solid construction. Counter top messes are a thing of the past. One poor design flaw, the glass hopper is very thin glass and shaped in a way that makes it hard to hold. Mine slipped out of my hands on day 2 and shattered on counter top. I happened to have thick stemless wine glasses that fit perfectly in place of hopper (with a little cork cushion on the machine to make the height perfect). The wine glass is easy to hold, and much thicker glass. Kitchenaid promptly offered to replace glass hopper under warranty, but I'll probably stick to my wine glasses. Don't need another sliced hand.

Cons: Fragile

This is a great quality burr grinder at a completely reasonable price. You could spend a lot more for a "professional" grinder and get the exact same results. The Kitchen-Aid grinder is very heavy and solidly constructed. It looks great and performs like a champ. I use it for drip brewing and espresso grinding. The manual also instructs you on how to fine tune the grinder for even finer or coarser grinds than the dial on the front allows but I find the default settings to be just fine for my needs. Coffee now tastes rich and smooth rather than watery or burned because the grinder doesn't heat the beans during grinding. A great Product - 5 STARS.

We seldom use a drip grind coffee maker, but for many years we have used a Crema SL90 Espresso machine. We purchased an expensive burr grinder when we bought the machine, and we put up with its extreme noisiness for the sake of the good grind we got. I liked the grinder so much I even bought another for my son for a Christmas present. He hated the noisiness of it so much that he put it away and never used it. After many years of loud noise and messy coffee particles sticking to the plastic bins our grinder started howling as if the bearings were going. Remembering that my son never used his duplicate grinder I asked him to send it back to me, which he did. It was nice and clean, but on the third use the motor froze up and it was dead. I used our grinder twice more, but it too committed suicide. I looked online for a replacement and was impressed with the reviews of the KitchenAid Pro Line Series grinder. I tried to find a white one but only black is available, apparently because KitchenAid is phasing out the product. We bought the black one, and found that it goes well with our other appliances. It is remarkably quiet, much faster than our old grinder, and is altogether a delight to use. We're thrilled to have it. It's easy to clean because the bowls are glass rather than plastic. We are careful not to drop the bottom bowl because it is fragile. We really like the retro look, and we are very pleased with it. If you need a good coffee grinder, buy this one quickly before they disappear.

Bought this as a replacement for my Solis Scala 166 that I had been using for a couple of years. Heard lots of good things about the KA Proline grinder from my coffee-geek associates, so decided to give it a shot. Compared to most home use grinders, it is nice and quiet and grinds very quickly. I like that the bean and grinds hoppers are both made of glass to reduce static, but I still get quite a bit of chaff stuck to the sides of the grinds hopper after use. Heavy Duty burrs should last the average user years and years, with replacements being very affordable. I expect this to be the last home grinder I'll have to purchase for a very long time. Solid, heavy construction are definite pros as well. The only cons I can state are probably a quibble for most. The grind could just be more consistent. I use it mainly for drip coffee during the week and the occasional French Press. After adjusting the burrs to grind a bit more fine, I am still getting a 20-30% variation in the grind size. Hoping it gets better with a little more use. Also, there always seems to be a bit of grinds left in the chute after it is finished - landing right on the bottom of the grinder as I remove the grinds hopper. My last grinder was less messy for sure.

Great grinder; consistent grind size & noise level not objectionable. Seems very durable. Replacement burrs are very reasonably priced [$]. Only reason not 5 stars: Glass hopper still very "staticky" and really needs a timer to enable consistent day to day grind amounts. Resorted to using it with a kitchen timer. (i.e.: 30 seconds for full 10-12 cup measure)

Well built. Seems to have a consistent grind - much more so than my old blade grinder. It took a little getting used to to keep from spilling grinds all over the place. BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
When I first ran beans through this grinder I immediately noticed how quiet it is. The second thing was how fast it filled my portafilter. Between these two things my morning grind is much more enjoyable, and I never wonder if I'm going to wake up anyone else. The burr adjustment is in very large increments, and luckily it is easy to convert it to a stepless grinder without voiding the warranty. In fact most of the info you need to convert it is covered in the owners manual. With only a couple of additional steps the grinder moves to another level. Teflon tape on the burr adjustment threads tightens up the fit, and fixes the wobble which leads to uneven grinds. This one little fix cures a host of the problems that show up in reviews. I am pulling great shots from my Simac pump espresso machine, and they are very consistent from shot to shot. I had it set too fine at one point and choked my machine. Even with the mod's that I've made on the Pro Line, it doesn't have the constant grind size of my old grinder. Still, it produces great, repeatable shots. If I was to choose between my two grinders based on the grind alone I might go back to my old grinder; but, the quiet speed of the Kitchenaid make it the winner overall.

Nice machine, still nitpicking

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
Use as an every day grinder. It's about on par with most other grinders in terms of noise, it's not super quiet like others make it out to be. As far as somewhat messy, it's not that the grinds fly everywhere during grinding, it's when you pull the jar out from under the output. It's a somewhat tight fit, and as the back edge of the jar passes the output hole some of the grounds usually fall out from the output hole under the burrs along the back of the outside of the jar and onto the grinder foot that holds the jar. Since there's a slim groove that runs around the inside of the foot some grounds end up getting brushed into the groove that can only be removed with a toothpick or something similar. Not a huge complaint but still a pain. Even though you may smack the grinder to knock down those clinging grounds up inside the output hole, some will almost always fall out onto the grinder foot or on the table. So it's not a perfectly clean grinder although it doesn't "spit" grounds while grinding. Also, even tho this is a low RPM grinder, it still makes about the same volume of noise as a high speed type grinder, just at a lower pitch. Sleeping in the next room, you'd still wake someone up while using this grinder in the room next door. Trade off's the average joe would consider: Other grinders have a shut off timer for grinding a specific amount, these models are all manual. High speed blender grinders are usually completely clean to use usually, if that matters. Low speed burr doesn't mean quiet. It sounds like a blender basically. We'll use it till it dies.
Pros: Easy To Use, Large Hopper, Consistent Grind, Reliable, Feels like quality
Best Uses: Home, Everyday
Cons: Somewhat messy

I've had this grinder for over 3 years now and purchased one for my brother-in-law. No plastic parts makes this a very solid unit. It's not quiet but this is a grinder not a fan. Because it's made of glass and steel there is none of that annoying static electricity build up that makes a mess. This thing will easily grind 3-4 lbs of coffee and not over heat. I would recommend this grinder to anyone, it will last for many years. One more thing, since it uses burr grinding as apposed to the "blender style" the grind is extremely consistent and is adjustable from coarse to fine. ABT is the best place to buy this unit, Macy's carries in on sale for[$], regularly [$]!! You will not be disappointed with this product.

I use this daily. I prefer this to a blade grinder for a number of reasons: First - the grind is adjustable. Even though I use the 6.5 setting for most of my grinds, I like having the ability to grind finer for espresso. Second - the glass cup releases the grinds without the static electricity found in plastic cups. Third - Controls are very simple, user friendly. Fourth - Grinder is built to last forever. (Thus my reason for needing to write this into my will!) It is HEAVY with solid dial & switch. Engineering is basic and uncomplicated. Fifth - Hopper is larger than those of blade grinders. It easily accomodates my 6 large scoops of beans for my robust coffee. If your kitchen countertop has room to accomodate this magnificent grinder, don't hesitate to buy it. You will never have to buy another one in your lifetime. It does honor to the coffee beans you spend your hard-earned money on. Well worth the cost!

It costs a lot, but it really is worth it. We're using it every day since about two years and it works great. No cheap plastic or buzzy motor. The glass container that catches the ground coffee is great because there is no static cling. However, when you remove the container from the grinder, some coffee grounds usually fall out of the mill. Not a big deal if you get used to tapping the grinder on top a few times before you take the container out.
