I replaced my 20 year old electric cooktop with this high tech one. I have only had it for a couple of months, but I highly recommend it. I already had the stainless cookware for it. This Induction cooking is amazing ! I turned a pot of water on the "Boost" mode and left the room for only a few minutes. When I returned it was boiling like mad. I have discovered cooking again. And when you turn it off....it's off right now! Love this cooktop. A little pricey, but it is amazing. But now, this is my side of the kitchen, so I have to clean it too. My wife is now off the hook!

The cooktop heats up FAST and has a wide range of heat settings allowing for exacting heat control. That's all very nice. However, the "touch" for making the settings is flakey. Sometimes (and not others) it takes a bit of fussing to get it to recognize that I want to make a change to the heat setting. I always get there eventually. Secondly, the outline of the "burners" is very dim in the glass top, so figuring out where to place the pan can, in lesser lighting, be a problem -- bending my neck one way then another to see where the pan should be set down. A brighter outline to define the placement would have been helpful. Lastly, the control for the upper center burner should have been swapped for the timer control. It doesn't make intuitive sense not to the have the control as near to the burner it represents as possible. It matters much less where the timer control is. Strange that they got this backwards. My complaints are generally minor in content and we'll keep and use this cooktop for a long time, I'm sure.

Comments about GE Profile 30" Electric Black Cooktop:
We love this cooktop. We always had gas stoves/ovens. We are sold completely on this induction cooktop inspite of having to buy new pots & pans. It boils water quicker than gas. Keeps even temps and cools to touch within 5 or so minutes.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

GE Profile 30" Induction Cooktop Rocks!!
from Lorton, VA, United States
I was exposed to induction cooktops in Europe, and had not seen many in the USA, but decided to see what was available. We found several makes, but because of the design and features, we chose the GE Profile, and we are very glad we did. It was easy to install, it works great, and it has really made our kitchen look much more attractive.
I love my new induction stove top. I have been researching the induction technology for several years. In my opinion induction is superior, both in its simplicity and in its energy efficiency, to any other heating method. So, when my wife and I decided to remodel our kitchen the choice to move to induction cooking was already well made. We researched the market for induction products and were soon convinced the GE Profile was the best piece of equipment among a wide range of price points. We have not be disappointed. Our GE Profile induction stove top is simply the coolest thing going! Sleek and stylish, very easy to learn, and remarkably fun to cook on. I highly recommend this product.

The cooktop seems very efficient, I love that it only heats up under the pan and is super fast. I really like that the buttons are embedded in the top...they are a little touchy...you have to be sure not to set anything on them. The only complaint is that it is already cracked on the edge...so I would recommend that you get the edging strip. GE is fixing it so should be OK.
Sleek & Easy to clean

love the sleek look and the ease of cleaning! Makes cooking for family of 6 more enjoyable.

Bought this two years ago. Looks great but designed badly. Your pan has to be almost the size of the element that's it's on for it to work. As you can see, the one on the right covers the most real estate. I rarely cook in a pan that big so it never gets used. But I do use the two medium and small. So when I need a third medium, I'm out of luck. It would be great if there was a switch that would reduce the element size. Also, if you have two mediums on at the same time, they can't both be on high. One automatically reduces to level 9. And whoever said this is as good as gas? Nowhere near gas! I would love to have gas but n/a in my area. This has been an expensive, frustrating waste of money and I am completely disappointed in the performance of this cooktop.

Innovation in Home Cooking

I have cooked on gas and conventional electric, and this is definitely a new experience. The old saying of "slaving over a hot stove" no longer exists with this unit. It is amazing how little heat is given off during cooking. The unit is easy to clean up after spills because the spills do not burn or stick to the cooktop unless it is under the pan, just wipe it off and you are done. The unit is very attractive, and I would recommend you buy this stainless steel trim model expecially if you have granite countertops. My only real complaint is not with GE but the manufacturers of the available cookware because some are not designing the size specifications of the magnetic base in accordance with cooktop manufacturers' specifications. For example, the large burner on this unit requires a minimum of 7" magnetic surface on the base of the pot/pan. On two of the major cookware brands on the market the base on their 10" frying pan and their 5 quart Dutch oven is 6 3/4" and therefore will not work on the large burner. Also, the medium burner requires 5 3/4 inch minimum base and the cookware's base is only 5 3/8 inches for their 2 quart pot. The 1 quart may actually be too small for the small burner. When you go shopping for pots and pans, be sure you have a magnet and a tape measure for the magnetic disc/surface. Once you have the correct pans/pots, you will be thrilled with the operation of this unit.

This is our first induction cooktop. Love the temperature control that is available. Boils a full pot of water in no time!

GE INDUCTION COOKING IS AMAZING.
from Freetown, MA, United States
I did a great deal of research before purchasing an induction cooktop and am so glad I chose the GE! It fit PERFECTLY into our granite counter cut-out where our 20+year old GE electric smooth-top had been. Our old cooktop was working fine, but I had heard so many raves that I just knew I wanted induction and figured, at my age, why wait? It makes cooking so much fun - so fast and responsive - and gave me the opportunity to get all new cookware. From frying an egg to boiling a big pot of water for pasta to sauteing veal marsala, I am so happy with my choice.
