Our old disposal was a 20 year old (approx) similar Kitchenaid batch mode model. It worked well and there is no switch on the wall so we had to replace it with another batch mode mode with a magnetic switch in the stopper. The new one is:- Powerful and very quiet; I can barely hear it running over the sound of the water from the faucet.-Installation was easy in my sink. The instructions indicate that you need to order a special part if you have an exceptionally thick sink where the drain is.- Batch mode style (switch is in the stopper) is very safe and convenient. You can't drop anything in it while it is running and you don't touch a switch on the wall with your wet hands to turn it on.- The stopper design is clever, put it in one way and it plugs the sink. Flip it over and it allows water in and turns on the disposal when you rotate it. But the stopper side had a cavity which fills up with water and if you pull it out quickly you may splash the water on yourself. The switch side has slots for the water to pass through which get clogged up by food debris and are noteasy to rinse out. But it does look like a better design than the old magnetic one that was was nicer to use but rusted out after about 5 years and was $60 to replace.- The cavity is small; about 2/3 the size of the older model so each batch that you grind must not be too big. - The casing is a snapped on plastic cover; [...]The base of the unit is very thin sheet metal so the romex clamp for the cord threads skipped over the sheet metal when I tightened it down.Overall it is very nice to use, and it should be for the price of this high end unit, and Abt's price was the best I could find anywhere.I was a bit dissapointed in Kitchenaid's stopper design and while the interior workings and motor work well and seem well built, I expected a tougher enclosure for a unit at this price.

This was the 3rd Kitchen Aid batch feed disposer we've owned, but the most disappointing. While easy to install, the new latch employs a magnetic on/off switch. The handle traps food, which must be removed regularly, a nuisance, and is difficult to insert and remove. Not good engineering. The rubber splash guard prevents food from dropping into the bin, so we removed it. Grinding is good and reasonably quiet.

    Powerful with one flaw.

    By Lloyd

from New York, NY, United States

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

This disposer works quickly and quietly and is very powerful. However, the "plug" piece that starts the feed in the sink is made entirely of plastic. It does not fit snugly into the opening and has to be twisted a number of times in order to start the disposer. Our last KitchenAid disposer had a metal, not plastic sink plug.

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

Have 5 grandsons who will be sitting at the recently renovated kitchen island. The thought of a shiny button which could start the garbage disposal sounded like a very bad idea. I had a different disposal purchased but mentioned that when my kids were young I had a disposal that no one could accidentally get their hand in when turned on. Told me they still had them but they're not that popular. Bought anyway. Now no worries about grandchild turning on the disposal when my hand is in there!!! I'm VERY happy with it. VERY quiet. Works well. The trade off ~ takes a little getting use to knowing exactly the position to start AND you can't do a continuous fed b/c you have to put food in, turn on, take top off, feed again etc etc. I'm willing to "suffer" this inconvenience for the safety factor.

Quietest disposer I have hardly heard. The magnetic switch is quirky but easy to get used to. Easy self installation.

Our existing disposal failed on us and this model was available and met on needs. It was on hand in the store and the purchase process was a breeze. It is very quiet and efficient. With grandchildren visiting, the batch processing feature was a useful feature.

        No improvement over previous model.

        By Renfro

        from Richardson, Texas 75082

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

We purchased early February, as our previous KA model would not "turn on and sometimes would not stop" working. This "new" model does not have the same capacity to accept garbage (have to stuff it down by hand) and the "stopper" will not allow any residue garbage to enter unit while running. The holes are too small. This stopper is made of plastic, while our previous was metal. We are sorry KA discontinued make our previous model, as it was a 100 times more effective in doing the job. Very disappointed in this "new" model.
