Our old disposal was a 20 year old (approx) similar Kitchenaid batch mode model. It worked well and there is no switch on the wall so we had to replace it with another batch mode mode with a magnetic switch in the stopper. The new one is:- Powerful and very quiet; I can barely hear it running over the sound of the water from the faucet.-Installation was easy in my sink. The instructions indicate that you need to order a special part if you have an exceptionally thick sink where the drain is.- Batch mode style (switch is in the stopper) is very safe and convenient. You can't drop anything in it while it is running and you don't touch a switch on the wall with your wet hands to turn it on.- The stopper design is clever, put it in one way and it plugs the sink. Flip it over and it allows water in and turns on the disposal when you rotate it. But the stopper side had a cavity which fills up with water and if you pull it out quickly you may splash the water on yourself. The switch side has slots for the water to pass through which get clogged up by food debris and are noteasy to rinse out. But it does look like a better design than the old magnetic one that was was nicer to use but rusted out after about 5 years and was $60 to replace.- The cavity is small; about 2/3 the size of the older model so each batch that you grind must not be too big. - The casing is a snapped on plastic cover; [...]The base of the unit is very thin sheet metal so the romex clamp for the cord threads skipped over the sheet metal when I tightened it down.Overall it is very nice to use, and it should be for the price of this high end unit, and Abt's price was the best I could find anywhere.I was a bit dissapointed in Kitchenaid's stopper design and while the interior workings and motor work well and seem well built, I expected a tougher enclosure for a unit at this price.

I just installed this and realized there is s little space in the chamber. Half of what my last kitchen aid had. Then there is a rubber shield like a continuous feed would have that now you have to push food down with your hand or something. Then there's the plastic stopper that you need to flip over to plug the sink, which doesn't work. I can her the still draining.

Kitchen aid failed on this one. I really wish I could return this, so unhappy. Want my old one back. Was going to buy a kitchen aid dishwasher this weekend, won't be now.

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

Got a great deal on this returned, opened (unused) disposal. Replaces an older Kitchen Aid disposal that died after several years. This disposal is much, much quieter than my previous disposal. The drain plug that you use to turn the disposal on is much more durable, too, compared to the previous model - more rubber to stop the drain and is longer. I've only had it a month, but so far its been working great. I had a local handyman install it - he had it installed in 30 minutes.

Cheap Rusting Parts on Top of The Line Model

      By

      from Chevy Chase Maryland

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

Over last two years found cheap steel parts rusting in our sink. They fell off this 'top of thie line' machine. Paid almost $500 only to find this 'best' made product has hidden cheap parts. Why they saved pennies using cheap rustable metal instead of stainless steel is beyond me. Called KA and told: Oh, sorry you are too late, your warranty ran...very sad. Paid top dollar expecting quality only to find they hide the cheap parts inside where you can't see them till they fail. Seen this with other Kitchen Aid stuff...maybe they are just licensing the Kitchen Aid name. And KA, why did the part and your warranty die at the same time? You made your name with your Kitchen Mixers, you are losing your name with sort of shoddy components.

      Runs quietly, instructions not complete

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

Install had a glitch in that the rubber safety collar was not referenced in the instructions. Apparently it is to be just laid in the drain to prevent things accidently falling in.

Very quiet in operation, impressed my daughter who has a noisy insinkerator

I replaced an 18 year old KitchenAid with a new KitchenAid. New one is so quiet you hardly know it is running. Installation went smoothly as the new one fit on the same mounting as the old.

Ant shipped the same day as the order was made. I received it well before the promise date. Thanks Abt for your promptness.

          Self installed batch feed disposal

          By

          from Orchard Park NY

          Verified Buyer

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

The disposer came with everything necessary to install in its package. Although the model I was replacing was the same make it wasn't the same size. Some creative plumbing attachments made it possible to hook up using the old piping. The old disposal was just a little larger therefore I used a flex fit attachment to hook it up. All in all the only real difficulty was elevating it under the sink enough to start the connection.

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

We have had KitchenAid disposers in the past (2 in 43 years) with excellent performance. This model is exceptionally quiet. It is trickier to start. We definitely prefer a magnetic start batch feed model for safety. The rubber flange is a different feature - makes it difficult to retrieve something accidentally dropped in.

            Very prompt delivery.

So much "For the way it's made"

            By

            from Arizona, United States

Comments about KitchenAid Batch Feed Garbage Disposal:

First off let me say the unit is very quite and has good power.
The rest all I can say is poor execution.

I am left disappointed in the magnetic start. It is tough to make in-gauge sometime don't work at all and the stopper don't plug water. So if you wish to fill the sink with water you are going to have to find a stopper that will work. The stopper they do have is made of plastic. Yes PLASTIC... Why would they take one of there premium models($400 range) and cheap out on the stopper. my old one was a different brand 3/4 hp cost 20% of what this one did but came with a chrome stopper and it actually stopped water.
The good news is I was able to get a chrome off-brand stopper that fits well at my local parts store for like $10 retail. If I want to use the disposer I will have to use the plastic one that trips the magnetic switch and use the new one when I wish to plug the sink.

All said the unit is subject to a ongoing issue Kitchen Aid has. Premium pricing and cheapening product.
I understand the need to stay competitive in pricing but a $400 disposer is high up the line and should have the quality trim level to go with it. It's like buying a BMW 7 series with hubcaps. At this price point nobody is concerned if the price needed to be a few dollars higher as long as the product had the correct fit and finish.
