We have had two of these machines now. We love the grinder (burr). We did a lot of research before finding and buying this machine. However we still have one complaint that they need to fix on this machine. We have had the bean hopper break on us 3 times now, and let me tell you that it is frustrating, time consuming and costly to keep replacing time and again. The need to replace the fixtures with metal not plastic!!!! The plastic pieces keep snapping when you lock and unlock the hopper to remove it and clean the machine out, the beans get in the way and "snap"! The next thing you know you are on this site.... :(

We had one of these units for aprox 8 years and used it everyday. I made a mistake of trying to clean it out with CLR and it caused a leak so had to buy a new one. SAME one of course. This new one is terrible. The chute has to be cleaned out for every use as it get plugged up unlike the first one which was not often. The WORSE problem is that this one randomly leaks half or more of the coffee onto the counter-top causing a huge mess and NO COFFEE. After 8 years of using the other one no-one can say we don't know how to use it. This one is clearly a faulty machine or they have changed the design somewhere I would no longer recommend this product. I have had enough and will be looking into a new one (different brand though I'm sure)

grinder constantly blocked

By

Comments about Cuisinart Chrome 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker:

This unit started out great but after a month there was nothing I could do to get a good cup of coffee using the grinding feature. I cleaned it methodically and it still doesn't work. The ground coffee blocks up and doesn't go into the basket for brewing. Highly recommend getting a separate grinder from machine.

Comments about Cuisinart Chrome 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker:

I replaced a Cuisinart DGB-500, which finally stopped working after 10 years, with the DGB-900. I was disappointed with the new machine because:

1. The water is not heated sufficiently to brew the coffee at the optimum temperature (195° to 205° F). There are no controls to adjust the temperature.

2. The thermal carafe is poorly designed: It's heavy, pour stream is thin, and it's difficult to clean. More importantly, it fails to keep coffee hot for "hours" per the manufacturer's claim.

3. The water tank is a challenge to fill without spilling water outside of the machine.

4. The DGB-900 is heavier and takes up more counter space than the DGB-500.

I ended up returning this coffeemaker and purchasing instead a Cuisinart DGB-550, which is nearly identical to the DGB-500 which served me well for 10 years.

great coffe maker for all in all.

Comments about Cuisinart Chrome 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker:

This is a great coffee maker. However, cleaning it is hard and you need a flashlight to see inside. Also because you have to clean it so often, We have had to replace the hopper twice as the part that tightens it breaks from opening so much.

I'm enjoying my coffee.

By

from Saskatchewan, Canada

Comments about Cuisinart Chrome 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker:

I must say that mine has worked very well, up to this point. I was also a little nervous because several reviews on other sites commented about really weak coffee. I like my coffee fairly strong; I normally drink dark roast, so I set it to the dark setting, and it came out as strong as the strongest Starbucks I have ever had. So I dialled it back to medium for myself and mild when serving guests and family. Some reviewers on other sites had mentioned weak coffee due to the water not being heated to the optimal 200 degrees Fahrenheit range. I figured the easiest way around that was a to get the water from the tap slightly warm to start with to provide the needed boost for the heating element. That seems to have been working very well for me. The other factor that may have been a problem for people commenting about a weak pot of coffee may have been inadequate cleaning. The instructions call for daily cleaning, but I have only cleaned the interior of the coffee grinding chamber when the 1/2 pound coffee bean hopper is empty. When I remove the coffee hopper to open the chute underneath for cleaning, there is always an accumulation of very finely ground coffee that plugs up about 1/3 of the coffee grounds chute. I suspect that if a person has not cleaned this area, the accumulations could eventually prevent enough coffee grounds from getting into the coffee filter below. My climate is really dry here in the prairies, so my coffee beans are also really dry which is ideal for proper grinding. I suspect that if you live in a damp climate and don't have the coffee beans in a well sealed dry container, the dampness will create much more buildup of fine accumulations, blocking the coffee grinder chute, so diligent cleaning would be really important. It really is not a big job to clean. The only complaint is one that several others have observed, about needing to turn the pot virtually upside down to get the last few cups of coffee out of the pot. Not a big deal I guess; it is what it is, but I would think the engineer designers should consider an improvement on that issue.

This does leave the pot warmer after brew because it has a thermal container. Sadly, it get luke warm after few hours. I really miss the pot warmer.

Very convenient machine, tuneable to your desired strength of coffee. Minor maintenance required- bi weekly cleaning of the grind chute-no biggie. Looks sharp and works. Best coffee maker I've had yet.

Makes the best coffee...until it doesn't

    By

    from Toronto, ON, Canada

Comments about Cuisinart Chrome 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker:

I had this coffee maker for about 2 1/2 years. Its integrated hopper means you add the beans once a week and you're ready to go. The burr grinder releases amazing flavour, but you have to be very careful not to let water go into the grinder when you are filling the reservoir, a design flaw. Sadly, the front-facing door that holds the filter stopped started opening in mid-brew and eventually would no longer remain shut, so we had to throw it out. Maybe that was just bad luck... I may still buy it again, the taste was unbeatable.

    Love this coffee maker

    By

    from Victoria, BC, Canada

Comments about Cuisinart Chrome 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker:

This coffee maker has been making great coffee for us since 2008. We have had no problems with it whatsoever. The coffee tastes delicious and fresh because the beans don't get ground until you use it; and the thermal carafe keeps it tasting fresh, because the coffee stays hot without getting baked. You definitely should try to keep the chute clean. Every time we fill the grinder, or every other time, depending on how oily the coffee beans are, we pull off the coffee bean bin, and brush out the chute. The grounds from oilier (darker) beans really stick together sometimes and I think if we didn't do that, the grounds would tend to compact and cause problems.

    Excellent machine!

    By

    from Saskatchewan, Canada

Comments about Cuisinart Chrome 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker:

We are very pleased with this particular model vs the older version. They've done a good job of completely separating the water reservoir from the grinder so there is no build up of grounds due to moisture or condensation. I had received another one that we barely used but stopped drawing water, still under warranty. I simply returned to to the manufacturer without any hassle was replaced. Well done & highly recommended.
