Overall, gives a very good quiet clean wash of dishes at good value.

The Power Scour function allows baking dishes to be placed directly into water jets, very convenient. It will not completely clean an enamel hard casserole dish, but will clean most well and make it easy to wipe out the dirtiest baking dish.

Very efficient to have utensil cage in the door- leaves more space for dishes.

Good use of space in dishwasher overall.

A few things need to be improved.

This does not completely dry dishes even with rinse aid. After a long wash/dry cycle (often 2.5 to 3 hours), then let it set another hour without opening the door, there is still some wetness on dishes. No big deal, but it seems this ought not be.

Plates on the bottom rack do not rest secure. With rolling out the rack or a slight tip of the door, plates will roll and crash into other items.

The silverware rack slots are too small and too crowded to insert individual silverware without getting scratched. Also the positioning prevents taller items in the middle that bump or rub the dispenser tub. Great idea in the door, but the rack is too "busy" and tedious to use smoothly.

I bought this Whirlpool to replace a 18 year old model (also a Whirlpool) that had seen it's last days. Cons- 1) as others have said, the utensil rack is a mess. You would think with the amount of modern engineering put into these Dishwasher that a simple thing like a utensil rack could hold normal size utensils. You can remove the top portion of the rack to avoid size issues but I ask myself, why is this thing even there? 2) Again, as others have pointed out.......The drying of your dishes. I do not like the fact that I have to add a liquid "drying agent" in order for my dishes to get "almost dry" So, I add pre wash detergent, regular wash detergent AND a drying agent! (though this is only added every 10-12 washes in a reservoir cup)...still....How did my poor 18 year old under- engineered whirlpool ever get those dishes clean and dry? To reiterate- I have NEVER had my dishes come out bone dry using any setting on this dishwasher. The drying agent does help.....but it's no cure. 3)No auto restart- have you ever started the load and realize you left out an item or two? You quickly open the door, throw in your items, close the door and the dishwasher restarts? On this unit you have to push a separate resume button and quickly close the door or it wont restart. I've made this Indiana Jones type move numerous times only to find my dishes dirty in the morning. (because it never ran....I need to get the timing Juuust right....) 4) No progress indicator. Of any kind. What cycle is it in? beats me....How much longer until they are done?..... your guess is as good as mine. Depending on the setting you could play the guessing game up to 7 hours. Yes 7! Not a typo. ( though this would be on the extreme economy setting.....but still...7 hours?) personally I have never used that setting and cleaning time runs about 1-1/12 hours for me. I will also say this is a top control dishwasher so the buttons are hidden on top when you close the door. But I can still see the glow of the lights....a cycle indicator could be added. 5) Filter. Yes Filter. This dishwasher has a little metal/plastic filter at the bottom of the unit. It is recommend you clean it once a month. This filter is supposed to catch any particulate matter that makes it to the bottom. I wont say much about this since its pretty obvious. Scummy filter, hand wash, once a month. Yuck and ouch (just wait till you have the pleasure of trying to remove the filter from the bottom of the unit) Pros- 1)Well designed looking. Very sleek. Modern. Looks good in my kitchen. 2) Cleans very well (most of the time) If you read the instructions you will find there are "zones" that clean better than others. On the bottom in the back there is a power scrubber feature that blast heavily soiled pots and pans. Pretty neat. 3) lots of space. Top rack is even removable . You can fit some huge items in there. Many different configurations to use. The top rack tines are movable and adjustable. Lots of neat clips to hold very light items in place 4) Utensil holder . (I thought this was a Con?) Well, it's both. The pros are it is removable and you have the option to hang on the door or place in the rack. Not many other units have this option. I prefer the door. I can just take the utensil basket out when I unload and hold it right at the silverware drawer without doing the silverware bend and shuffle dance. 5) Many cleaning options from "heavily soiled" to "economy" (china and crystal) There is even a "overnight" option and numerous "delay" options. Even has a "sani rinse" if you need the water extra hot for baby bottles etc.. 6) Very minimal water use. 7) Very quiet. As in....is this thing on? You can sort of hear it in the same room, but if you go into the next room it isn't noticeable. See #3 of the Con list. 8) price point. This is the best sub $500 dishwasher out there in terms of load size and options.

Is it running?

By gibberbub

Comments about Whirlpool GU2300XTV Black 24" Dishwasher:

I've had this dishwasher for 3 months now and believe it is the best one I've ever owned. The Good: It runs very quietly and has massive amounts of space inside that can be changed to fit virtually anything you might need cleaned in the kitchen. We have very large plates that simply did not fit into our old (came with the house) DW and they now fit well without even raising the upper rack. This goes for those tall summer drink cups as well. It cleans great and the Stainless interior always looks good. The less Good: It would be great if it had a single light on the outside that lit up at the end of the cleaning cycle. All the controls are on the inside upper edge of the door and are hidden when the door is closed. It runs so quiet that you just don't know if it is done or still has a way to go. Not really a problem for us because we always start it late as we are heading to bed, but it could be an issue if you are waiting for dishes to be done. Also, it is stainless steel and not "Smudgeless steel".

Whirlpool Works for Me!

By SuePark

from Cedar Park, TX

Comments about Whirlpool GU2300XTV Black 24" Dishwasher:

We recently replaced a 15-yr old dishwasher that really wasn't "doing it's job" (I was!) - so we shopped and shopped for both quality features and reasonable cost and found ourselves at the Whirlpool and couldn't be more satisfied. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the silverware basket attached to the door--so I just removed my basket from the old dishwasher and my dishwashing dilemma is resolved!!

Efficient, very quiet

By sfnative

Comments about Whirlpool GU2300XTV Black 24" Dishwasher:

I've been using the dishwasher for just over a month now and couldn't be more pleased. Locating the silverware tray in the door has greatly increased the capacity for dishes so I am able to run the dishwasher much less frequently, a big plus in our drought-impacted area. Additionally it is surprisingly quiet; you have to stand quite close before hearing that the dishwasher is on.

My first stainless dishwasher

By louisvillegirl

from Louisville, KY, United States

Comments about Whirlpool GU2300XTV Black 24" Dishwasher:

I have had this dishwasher a little less than two months and I like it. I will admit that it has a bit of a learning curve when it comes to loading because it is set up very differently than any other dishwasher I have used, maybe because the silverware on the door. The silverware basket took some getting used to because you have to figure out what fits where. These are not bad things, just something to keep in mind so you don't hate it at first. My only real complaint is that I kept having dishes that were not totally dry even though it was on high. I had read about this before I bought it, but didn't think much of it and yes, I do use a rinse aid that is supposed to help with drying. I think that the big reason it doesn't totally dry is because it is not vented like the older ones that have steam coming out the little front vents. This one doesn't really have a vent, partially due to its sleek design. So here is how I figured out how to handle it-don't let the dishes sit long after they are done because water condenses back on them. Simple. I don't run it when I go to bed at night, I just run it when I will be able to be around while it is still warm. Also, don't open up the door all the way and take the basket off the door to empty it first so water doesn't run into the silverware. Some complained that the basket left drips on the counter after they emptied it, but come on people, it is a dishwasher.
