I love, love, LOVE this fridge! I've had it for 3 years now and have never had a single problem with it. When I purchased it, I had a very specific list of "needs" for a refrigerator for in our new home. Due to the way our kitchen is configured, it really needed to be counter-depth. I wanted it to be stainless on the sides as well as the front, and I really wanted the bottom freezer. Honestly the GE Cafe was the only fridge I found that met all of those requirements. The downsides (in my opinion) were that it cost about twice what I had planned on paying, and it is not an Energy Star appliance. I was slightly concerned about it not having enough space, due to being counter-depth, but I have been very pleasantly surprised at how spacious it really is inside! Almost all of the shelves move around easily to accommodate just about anything you need to store. There is even room to put a large pizza (or 2! box and all!) on the bottom shelf. And the freezer is just as roomy with multiple drawers/baskets on the inside. And I love that the water dispenser is on the inside of the fridge--it takes up no room at all and is so convenient. So the refrigerator in general is extremely functional, and on top of that, it's an absolute beauty to look at. It's the shining star of my kitchen for sure!

We are a two adult household, retired but very active. We purchased this refrigerator in December 2011 to replace an old side-by-side and received numerous compliments on it. Within the first few months, we had multiple service calls because the water stopped working. Apparently, the waterline is prone to freezing due to its close proximity to the freezer. In addition to the water issues, we found the layout to be inefficient. The water filter and ice maker take up valuable refrigerator space. When the shelves are adjusted to accommodate tall items such as milk and juice, there is not enough room between the remaining shelves to hold much more than a casserole dish. In addition, there is a bar at the front of the shelf that drops down about 3/4. I assume it is intend to make the slide-out feature easier but it further reduces the overall shelf height. In a pinch, the Quickspace shelf helps but accessing items behind and on the shelf above is awkward. The two gallon size door bins will hold gallon containers but with the Clearlook butter bin also in place, you can’t space them far enough apart to get large items in/out of both bins. I was able to gain the necessary space by removing the Clearlook bin. Ice production was adequate for just us, but I did keep backup ice in the freezer to supplement during the excessive summer heat and for company.

Not worth the price for 2.5 years of lif

Comments about GE Profile PGCS1PJYSS Stainless Steel Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:
I had it for 2.5 years and the inverter is gone costing me decent amount to fix. Reason you spend the high dollars for GE is reliability but if it breaks in 2.5 year you rather spend half of it and buy another brand. Had similar experience with a washer I have, expect that it broke within warranty and I didn't have to pay for it.

Led lighting, Water and Ice failure
from Modesto, CA, United States
We bought the PFSS5RKZSS 3 1/2 years ago. It has work great till this week. First the Led lighting quit coming on when you open the doors, now two days later the water and ice won't work. Have unplugged and let sit for a few minutes to reset touch panel. Indicator lights work above selected items, but the item selected does not work. Any thoughts G.E.?
Frozen? Let it go!

We've had our GE Cafe frig for 6 years and since they no longer manufacture it (I think I know why) the purpose of my review is to vent and let others know that they're not the only ones with frozen food in their refrigerator. We experienced issues with frozen food in the back portion of the refrigerator soon after we purchased it. When we called the dealer they said it shouldn't be happening; try adjusting the temperature. We've never found a solution other than having a second frig in our laundry room. We spent $7,000 on our 4 GE Cafe appliances when we remodeled our kitchen and we've had major problems with all of them. We'll be replacing our defunct microwave this week (key pad hasn't worked right for a couple of years) but definitely with a different brand.

Water dispenser has stopped working

The water dispenser has stopped working on this unit. The repairman says GE has a heater kit that will install on this unit and he will have to order one. This surely must be a known defect if GE makes a kit to repair their bad design. Why do I have to pay to correct their mistake. We bought this refrigerator to go with the rest of the GE appliances the builder put in the house. Mistake, we will try another company in the future.

we just moved into a home with this refrigerator and the temperature continues to rise on both the frig and freezer for no reason. We lose a lot of food.
Beautiful look! It's the jewel in the kitchen.

I've only had this refrigerator for a few days so I can't really comment on longevity. But I do like the design of the interior. It seems to hold more than it looks like it should. At first, when I emptied out my old side-by-side, I thought this new fridge wouldn't hold everything. But amazingly, it did, and with room to spare. The freezer part is a bit awkward if you wanted to put a turkey in it, but since I have a small chest freezer, this isn't really an issue. I wanted a refrigerator that didn't have ice and water in the door because there tends to get a mineral buildup and it's not a very clean look. This one has water inside the refrigerator itself so you just have to open the door. My only complaint would be you have to make sure you close the right side door as it's kind of a two-step process. Slamming it doesn't really work. But there's an alarm, so that helps. It's just something to get used to. All and all, I love it.
