This is my first cooktop...although I have owned and used a variety of ranges (gas, smooth top and coil) this is my first induction. I love it! Even if you don't cook often, I highly recommend a 36" as the extra space is invaluable. Induction cooks quickly, does not overheat the kitchen when you have several pots cooking simultaneoulsy, cleans easily, and shuts off automatically one you remove the pan from the heating element. Special pots/pans are required....however, it gave me the excuse to invest in a good set of cookware that will last more than a lifetime. The cook top is easy to use and easy to clean - however I would recommend purchasing the cooktop without the stainless steel trim. I felt that it was not necessary to match the other stainless steel appliances in the kitchen and would not catch slight crumbs. I really can't comment on the price as it was an upgrade appliance when I had my house built...I am sure the builders charged me more than retail.

I have to say that I am disappointed in the service life of this cooktop. I have gone decades with conventional stovetops with nary a problem, but a bit over two years of light use and this unit has about $1400 worth of repair bills in one failure (a filter board went bad). It tells me that G.E. isn't making things very well anymore and you may have to go elsewhere for quality products. When it worked it worked well. It can heat up a can of chili in a sauce pot in about 80 seconds, quite remarkable when you think about it.Cleanup is a breeze. There are literally no moving parts so there is no cleanup issue. The other big detractor is that the induction aspects of the cooking system makes it really hard to cook when you have an old favorite pan that is not ferrous. Once you get over that it's a nice cook top.

Comments about GE Stainless Electric Induction Cooktop:
We purchased this cooktop in February for our kitchen remodel. It is an amazing induction cooktop. Heats quickly and evenly, and cools immediately. Love the five burners of various sizes as well!

I've only lived in homes with the standard electric cook tops so I can't comment on induction vs. gas. Having said that I will never go back to standard cook tops after using induction. It boggles my mind how fast I bring a giant pot from room temp. to a running boil. The home I purchased had this cooktop already installed so I didn't shop around or compare features but this model seems to be more than sufficient. I should add the cook top is a lot easier to clean as only the pan/pot gets hot and not the element; eliminating much of the 'cooked on' junk you usually have to scrub.
Main Board down within a month
from Virgilina, VA, United States
I had my induction cooktop installed during kitchen renovation a month ago. With the Renovation I switched to GE Profile appliances thinking they were upgrade from my LG appliances. Loved induction. Its great! After about a month of cooking on it, two nights ago I heard a pop while cleaning the cooktop. Now the two big burners and the other little burner on that side dont stay on. GE repairman says the board is down and needs to be replaced. This is not the first one he has seen. Only a month. Sure, they will have the parts here in two days and repair it on Monday but its Mother's day weekend and I have a lot of company coming and no working cooktop! Not Happy. The boards are about 1/3 of the price of the cooktop. What am I in for here? Not happy and worried that I decided to switch to GE Profile appliances.

We love this cooktop! Looks great and works perfectly. Be careful dragging pans across the stainless frame because it scratches very easily
It's beautiful and easy to clean

This cooktop needs attention each time you use it, but it is beautiful. It's very easy to clean and because it's such a focal point in our house, I polish it each time I use it. By polish, I mean wipe up with sponge and then use a dry clean towel. That's it! Easy and worth it.

Top Drawer gets burning hot when I am cooking
from Florida, United States
I am new to induction. What I do not like is that while i have a burner on I can not set anything else on the cooktop. I do realize that with no burner on that i can lock the cooktop ` that is to be able to set many things on it. Also the first drawer below my cooktop gets unbelievably hot. I actually should call your service department as to how hot the drawer beneith it gets while I am cooking. Also, I often time cook with two small pots, there is no burner to accept a second small pot. Terrible feature. I do of course love that the burner is not hot immediately after i take the pots off of it. I do love how easy even spilt over messes are to clean up. thank you for that awesome feature.
cooks like gas without the flame!

I wanted a GE Product in my remodeled kitchen because a GE Refrigerator that my Parents bought in 1940 is still going strong even though it has never needed a repair!! I enjoy using this induction type, sleek looking, easy to clean cooktop. It accommodates 5 pots/pans and cooks with the responsiveness of gas but is much safer to use because there is no open flame and there are no knobs to clean around. When I am not cooking on it, it can be used as additional counter space. I am hoping my 2009 purchase will perform as well as my Parents' 1940 purchase. So far - so good ...

I had a one burner induction unit and decided to go with induction in my dream kitchen. I will never have anything different. It is the very best. It has surpassed all my expectations. Every one I know wants one. The features are endless and the ease of cleaning us the biggest plus EVER. Just a warm damp cloth and a little drying with a towel and it is perfect.
