Only Wolf and the Kitchenaid has dual fan convection. Only Kitchenaid and Miele has steam assisted. This Kitchenaid oven is better than both of those because it combines their capabilities. This is a very well constructed intelligent oven for avid cooks. Also reheats food with steam & tastes just made. 2 things disappointed, no cookbook included and had to buy their broiler pan. You'd think a [$] oven would come with those. Directions on how to use the steam assist are vague and requires experimentation, but worth the effort. The browning effect on meats is incredible. Casseroles don't get the 'burnt edges', and the frozen pizza tastes like its just from the pizza parlor. Soufles also come out perfect as well. Overall, a great oven.

I've had this double oven for about 18 months now and let me just say that what was once the crown jewel of the kitchen has turned into a royal pain in the you know what. The oven performs very well when it actually works. The problem is that I've had nothing but problems with it. When I first had the oven installed we consistently had problems with the control panel mis-reading our inputs. Then, after use it would start changing settings on it's own and would even turn on by itself. This was quickly repaired by replacing the control board and the touch display. After that we've had three different instances where the oven would stop working with an error code, each of which required multiple service calls before the issue could be resolved. I love the features of the oven and the steam feature is great but I simply couldn't recommend this product given it's reliability. Also, previous comments about pre-heat times are accurate.

1 year Review

By

from Boerne, Texas

Comments about KitchenAid Architect Series II 30" Stainless Steel Built-In Double Electric Oven:

We've had this oven for a year, got it on sale for 50% off but now that it's discontinued the price is even lower. Preheat to 425F takes 17 min. Not too bad if you plan ahead, I don't know how long our old oven took to warm up that long so I don't know if that's good or bad. It's easy to clean the oven floor, the heating element are in the base so they don't get in the way while wiping up spills. I'v cooked 2 turkeys using the steam feature, they go through a browning stage then the steam cook. They were awesome, beautiful and moist. The only thing I'd recommend is to extend your cook times on dishes to get a complete cook. The Turkey's I'd give an extra 1/2hr but at 1.5 hrs to cook a 14 lb turkey that's fast anyway. It's not that noisy, fans cycle periodically while cooking and can be heard. During cool down the cabinet fans continue to cool the exterior until it cools off.

Problems? We had a problem with the steam feature. The steam is produced by a boiler on each oven. The stem passes into the oven during the cooking cycle. One of the boilers burned out and would not let us use that oven at all. Once replaced we haven't had recurring problems but I haven't used it that much anyway. Now we are having some deformation of the vent grill above each oven and it is rubbing on the door causing a scratch mark. I have to call in for that still. The vents are plastic and the oven heat passing through them is just too much for whatever kind of plastic they used.

Generally, The ovens have been great to have separate cooking temps at the same time. Reliability has been perfect outside of the stem boilers so I suspect that any oven without that feature would be trouble free.

I'd be disappointed if I had paid full price but am still happy enough with it to recommend at discount prices currently see around $1500.

The good thing is that the appliance repair person said that this brand has a good reputation.

Very Functional

By

from Oconomowoc, WI, United States

Comments about KitchenAid Architect Series II 30" Stainless Steel Built-In Double Electric Oven:

I'm delighted that I went with double ovens. It's so much easier to cook things that need different temperatures. I like the steam assist too although it takes some practice to get used to it. It would be nice if there was more documentation on using it.

Overall it's great for what I do, however I have a few concerns.

First, it's slow to preheat, significantly slower than a stand-alone oven.
Second, the timer is very difficult to see (in the upper right) while operating and must be turned off or it'll continue to beep.
Third, it was a difficult install for the builder. The installation instructions are not clear and we had to take delivery 3 months earlier than desired and unbox it to find out where the power cable comes out in order to rough in the electrical.

It's attractive and functional. The racks are easy to move and the rolling bottom rack is a cool innovation. Cleaning is easy too and the stainless steel is attractive.

Innovative Technology

By

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about KitchenAid Architect Series II 30" Stainless Steel Built-In Double Electric Oven:

The Kitchenaid steam oven was recommended to me by a close friend and fellow cook. I must admit that the steam function is taking me some time to learn and I am in search of more thorough instruction than is offered in the manual. Perhaps once I become more familiar with the steam feature I will offer a higher rating. It does cook quickly and fish stays moist. The ovens are nice and deep, but the top oven poses a problem for a short person like myself! I find that I need to reach into the top oven from the side because my arms aren't long enough to reach over the length of the door.

Beautiful Oven

By

from Boerne, TX, United States

Comments about KitchenAid Architect Series II 30" Stainless Steel Built-In Double Electric Oven:

We just got ours. Decided to take a chance and ignore all the bad reviewers. Oven is really attractive inside and out. Controls are easy and Temperature is accurate ( I measured it with an NIST traceable thermometer). We haven't tried the Steam feature yet because we're just on day 3 but I did some warm up time measurements and I seems to perform better than expected. To warm to 350F it took 14:27 on bake and 12:00 on convection. To warm to 425F it took 22:25 on bake and 21:00 on convection. Convection has a more powerful heating element so this is what I expected. Because it is a wall unit a ventilation fan will run on low speed to keep the cabinet cool while the convection fans activate in short duration to move the air within the oven. The cabinet fan is very faint and the convection fan is mildly audible. We're excited to try the different cooking modes. Bon-Appetite....
