    Comments about Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router:

    First off, I'm not much familiar with routers and I needed one to allow my Mom to have Internet connection since I am using the cable modem in my room. At first, I originally bought another modem but realized from the cable company that I would be paying double for Internet service... so I returned the modem at a non-ABT store. I did some research online comparing various routers and almost bought a Netgear router that the cable company used and was set to buy the Netgear brand. Off to the store I go to buy said router and came across this Belkin router. I was going back and forth between aisles to figure out which router was best.

    After looking, reading and comparing the pros and cons of various routers, I decided to purchase the new BELKIN N1 VISION WIRELESS ROUTER. What I found interesting that the other brand routers did not have was that Belkin has the first INTERACTIVE router which cannot be found in other brand routers. Being new to networking, I was really frustrated at the beginning and almost returned the router, but waited a few days with a clear head. A week later, I tried setting up the Belkin router and it was really simple. There is a Quick Installation Guide with step by step instructions for setup... and a CD User Manual in case you need further help.

    IN THE BOX...
    * N1 Vision Wireless Router
    * Quick Installation Guide
    * CD with User Manual
    * Power Supply
    * RJ45 Ethernet Networking Cable

    Since I am using the cable modem, I had to connect the router to it.
    1. Connect the power supply to the wall outlet and the other end to the back of the router
    2. Take your existing cable connected to your computer, remove it and plug it into the router
    3. Take the new cable provided in the Belkin box and attach one end to the router, while the other end goes to an Ethernet port on your computer
    4. Rotate the antennas on the router and open up a browser on your computer.
    5. Follow onscreen instructions for security, etc.

    PROS & CONS...
    I don't have any cons as of yet but the best part(s) for me is visually seeing the various icons to let me know that the internet, modem, router, wired & wireless computers and security (a padlock) logos are working or connected properly. These icons along with your network name appears on the first screen as well as how many wireless devices are connected (or on/off).

    Screen 2... shows the speed of your downloads in kbps.
    Screen 3... shows the upload/downloads.
    Screen 4... shows your computer connections and speed (which basically is the name of your computer/device that is on and its speed).
    Screen 5... shows the usage during the past 24 hours.
    Screen 6... shows you Guest Access which you can turn on or off.

    The last screen shows you today's date (day of week, month, date, year) and time. There is a Menu button which allows you to access Wireless Security, Help and Tips, and a Power Save feature.

    Overall, and again being new to networking, I feel safe knowing what devices are working/connected properly and most importantly, actually seeing who is part of my network by being able to see the name of the devices that are connected to it.

    Would I recommend this? Yes, I would. How many routers can provide this much information? Probably none. You can judge for yourself. Go to the store, look at this product and compare it with others. The majority of the routers out there are just non-interactive connecting pieces with no visual aid to see what's going on with your network like this BELKIN N1 VISION WIRELESS ROUTER can provide. Hope this helps some of you, especially newbies like me :-)
