I carry this camera in my bag every day, working as a paramedic. when i'm out at a pub or festival i slip it in my pocket to take pictures of good times with friends. the only downside is there's about a 3/4 sec lag in actually taking the pic, there may be a way around this i don't know?

I've had the camera for only about 2 years before it broke. It over all broke when I dropped it, but before that, the shutter was getting harder to press and wasn't sensitive, there would be a lens error quite often, the icons/text on the buttons wore off quickly, and the first time I dropped it it broke. There was only a 3x zoom and the quality stunk. I HATE the LCD screen and the tripod adapter didn't work even though I had made sure to buy the right size. Didn't like the camera AT ALL! I do not suggest purchasing it!

Very serious battery problem

By

from Long Island NY

Comments about Nikon Ruby Red 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera:

NIKON COOLPIX L18- serial Ndegrees 33104089 2 days ok After every 20 pictures message "battery exausted" I replace batteries many, many, many times it cost a fortune Very poor quality video. Under warranty -> return to maintenance corrosion problem , "take care of it" "very sensitive to humidity", "bla bla" at the end = no change No information or real support from Nikon. In my opinion this product is a bug and Nikon don't want to refund. My first and last Nikon purchase.

Needs Work

By

Comments about Nikon Ruby Red 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera:

Although I like this camera, it is not the best or worst I've ever owned. I do like how compact it is and what it does, but the thing I hate is how quickly it drains batteries. And even though the screen will flash battery exhausted, I find the batteries still test "good".

Best camera I've ever owned!

By

Comments about Nikon Ruby Red 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera:

I've owned and used many cameras in my life, and none of them produce the same quality as my L18. I'm badly wanting to upgrade to at least a D3100, but the L18 is doing very well for now. I'm just starting a photography business, and my L18 is what I'll be using until I can afford the D3100. And I know that I'll be able to provide my clients with good quality pictures. :)

Survived one of the worst winters on record in CO

By

from Walnut Creek, CA

Comments about Nikon Ruby Red 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera:

In Sept. 2010, I was visiting my daughter who lives in Summit County, Colorado. We were hiking and somewhere along the way I lost my Nikon Coolpix L18. Fast forward to June 2011. A state waterboard employee was hiking in Summit County and found by camera. He removed the memory card and through detective work, he was able to locate me through the photos on the card. He contacted me and sent the camera back to me. Not only did I recover my photos, but the camera still works! After surviving the bitter winter temperatures and copious amounts of snow, not all the features are intact, but I'm still one happy camper.

Unbeatable

By

from Bellflower, CA

Comments about Nikon Ruby Red 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera:

I got my L18 by coincidence. My prior expensive Casio camera, was stolen from my car. I got this one as a used condition camera, since I didn't want to spend as much as I did with the one I had, and I can say that I am glad my Casio was stolen. my used L18 take way better pictures and is so easy to use. My goodness, I never thought I would be happy to be stolen. Even the price for the brand new, would be worthy for any one.

Great Camera

By

from Charlotte, NC

Comments about Nikon Ruby Red 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera:

I have had this camera for about two years now and it works just as well as the day I bought it even thought it's been though the wringer (it's been dropped on its lens and in the snow many times). The picture quality is great and the battery life is very nice. The only problem is when you use the full zoom, pictures come out blurry and you can see the pixels. Other than that, this camera is great buy.

A good camera for the price

By

from Berkeley, CA

Comments about Nikon Ruby Red 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera:

Most of the photos I take are snapshots at the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert of northwestern Nevada. It's an extremely dust filled environment, and even when the air is still, the air is filled with microscopic dust particles. This means any use of flash will look like you are in a blizzard. This camera does not do as well photographing night time subjects as my previous camera (of another brand). It might be that the older camera just had low enough resolution that tiny movements didn't show on the photo. Or maybe as I get older, I'm just not holding the camera as steadily. Nevertheless, I really like this camera, that I can carry around in my shirt pocket, and overall, it does take better pictures. As to the dust, my older digital camera, lasted through 7 of these festivals (we call them "burns") before the mechanisms started sticking, and making it unreliable. So I got this L18. It went through 3 burns before I started getting the "lens error" message. I assume that is also a result of the dust. The cost of sending this in for repairs was almost the cost of a new coolpix, so I got the S4000, and will keep this one (and my older one) as backups. Overall, I've been happy with this camera.
