I use this VCR/DVD Recorder almost everyday to record a porgram or two and it is very easy to program and the picture quality is great too. Since it has the built in digital tuner it works great right off my house antenna! Easy menu to setup programs too!

This was perfect - just what I needed at the right price. With DTV it was a nuisance because all I want to do is be able to tape a show in case I miss it. I don't need anything fancy and I use an antenna (nothing beats free TV!!) Who wants to subscribe or pay a fortune for a DVR just to tape a show that you might miss? This does what you had before DTV because it has a tuner. You can record to either a tape, or to a disc if you want higher quality. You can also use this to convert your tapes to disc, or play them as tapes. The picture isn't bad at all.

The only cons are that it only comes with the basic cables. You need to buy the DVD cables - S or for a better picture, component cables, or HDMI if your TV has a connection. The other con is the setup - the trick is to set the input on your TV. It took me awhile to figure that out.

I hate to be so different from all of the other reviews, but I have to because of my experience with this unit. I have no complaint with it's performance. My biggest complaint is the way the instructions manual is written. This machine has so many features that it is confusing to know where to go to find out what you want to do. There is no index in the book. You have to go page to page thru 123 pages to find the section that you want to learn about. I have some understanding of recording media an this is important if you want to understand this book. If you are a Videophile that wants to do a lot of editing, putting presentations together and have and understanding of how to do this by following the instructions, than this is the unit for you. I was not interested in this, (because I can do that on my computer). There should be a chapter of the book for the person that just wants to record TV shows and playback discs or tapes. I am the type of person who can hook everything up (or put an item together) and then reads the instructions book to see if I did it right. The connections were easy if you have any familiarity with hooking up inputs and outputs on other electronic equipment. Using a HDMI cable make it even easier. (Antenna in to the unit, antenna out to the TV set. HDMI out from the unit to HDMI in to the TV set. If not, everything is color coded. After that however, you have to learn how to do the programing etc. There were times (after spending hours reading the manual that I could not get from playback to timer recording no matter what button I pushed on the remote. There are too many other small situations that to remember to but into this synopsis to be of importance. I don't know if other brands of this type of unit would be easier to use, but I will attempt to exchange this unit for another to find out if they are any easier to operate. I have only had this unit for a week and am very frustrated. I love ABT and I know they will make it right by me.

I did not try to contact customer service to assist because there were so many issues to be resolved.
Maybe there should be a seminar or webinar in order to learn to program these units.

Great picture. If you take the time to read the instruction book you should be able to quickly become an expert on any of the DVR/VHS many available functions.

I use the VCR recorder when there are two shows on at the same time. That way I don't miss any of my favorites.

The only real problem I had was I need to change the input of the tv to get the video to come through the tv rather than just turn to channel 3 and hit play. Otherwise ... I have enjoyed this item from the start. It works great!

We watch movies occasionally and plan to convert old VHS tapes to DVD. So far we have no problems.
