I bought this thinking it would be dishwasher safe, as I use the whip for eggwhites, creaming butter, icings. It is exactly like the one that came with the mixer that states it is not to be cleaned in the dishwasher. My original KA blades all went in the dishwasher.

I am a licensed home baker so my whip is used often...normally not very hard. I am finding that the quality of the replacement whips are not like they used to be. I had the original whip for 10 years...now within the past 6 months I am having to replace them monthly as they break. Poor quality

Wire Whip made of aluminum and stainless steel will corrode
from Seattle, WA
Comments about KitchenAid Stainless Steel 6 Quart Stand Mixer Wire Whip:
The wire whip that came with my beautiful new tilt head grape colored mixer is made of an aluminum body with stainless steel wires. Haven't your engineers every heard of galvanic corrosion? The aluminum will oxidize if you put this in contact with any conductive solution: Lemon juice, dishwasher soap, dish washing detergent, vinegar. Bad engineering! The oxidation forms an icky black powder that covers everything and gets in the food in the mixer if it gets wet. Eventually the wires will come out of the body as the corrosion continues. I tried coating mine with clear nail polish, but then it wouldn't fit on the head anymore. Make it all stainless.

Black residue everywhere - a mess!
from Mt. Pleasant, SC
The top portion of my wire whisk has just left black residue all over my hands, in my frosting and on my towel. It's a mess. Evidently someone (guest, babysitter) put my whisk into the dishwasher unbeknownst to me.I cannot tell you how annoyed I am. I have used a kitchenaid stand mixer for years - my mother's (purchased probably 35-40 years ago) has never had this problem and her whisk has always been dishwasher friendly. Why in the world in this day and age any company would manufacture a product that could not be put in the dishwasher is beyond me. Other stand mixers that I know of do not have this issue. This should certainly have been stainless steel or some other non-oxidizing metal. Is there an alternate whisk available that I can use that doesn't have this issue? In looking at the reviews for this piece, I see that I am far from the only person who had a problem.

Black gunk, possibly very dangerous
By Jeff michels
from Washington DC
The black gunk that comes off the hub of this attachment drips into the mixture if it gets wet. Can't figure out what it is, not rust or anything else clearly harmless. Given that the KitchenAid attachments are made oversea there's some real concern as to what this is leaching out of the metal. Black substance appears whether you hand or machine wash. Have bought 2 to confirm

Wire Whip Attachment Leaves a lot to be desired
By Baker Blues
from New York, NY
I am with ALL of the others who have had issues with this attachment. I can see that the breaking prongs is an issue for a lot of people and I HAVE sent an email to Corporate with my discontent about this accessory. I'm on my 4th replacement of this part and the cost has doubled since the first replacement. Very disappointed in this part and when I go to purchase a new mixer in another year, I'll go with another manufacturer and possibly just spend more on a commercial version as I'm adding to my cost every 6 months with this mixer anyway. Wake up KitchenAid...your customers are not happy.

I am on this website for the same reason as all the other commenters. I put my wisk into the machine and it turned black and started rubbing off a thick black residue. I figured it was a reaction to the detergent and my fault for not hand-washing it. So, I tossed it and came here to buy a new one. But, now I see that everyone has the same problem regardless of how they wash it. What am I supposed to do now?
Darn-it....5th-time I need to order a wire whip
from Elkhart, IN
Cannot believe that the wire keeps breaking at the area of the "neck". Frustrating!!! AND EXPENSIVE!
Makes Whipped cream in minutes
By Sunny Florida
from Hudson Florida
I got this wire whip with my mixer and I love it. It makes Whipped cream in minutes, Great for strawberry shortcake or key lime pie. Before I whip the cream I put the bowl and the wire whip in the freezer for about an hour and I also wash the wire whip buy hand with mild dish soap.
