Comments about GE Cafe Stainless Free Standing Range Backguard:
Unique product. Heard about it from repair guy who has same range at his home, and couldn't say enough good things about it...

A RIPOFF [...]
from Erie, PA
About Me Avid Cook
GE has you by the throat on this, it should have come with the appliance for homeowners who do not have a tile / stainless wall. Or at least have been priced for what it's worth. To install, it was not difficult like mentioned below. Simply thread the self tapping screws in the holes first without the guard in place, then when the guard is positioned, it is much easier to get the screws started. A 1/4" socket and ratchet will make it a breeze. If not a 1/4" open end wrench. The stove will need to be pulled out, otherwise the screws are not reachable.
Service and delivery comments:

Does the job, mainly for looks.
About Me Casual Cook
There is really nothing special about this piece of stainless steel backsplash. It actually has a cheap feel to it when you take it out the package, makes you feel that you've been robbed out of [$] Defenitly a overpriced piece of metal, makes the back look a little better, thats about it. If you can do without a little SS backsplash lip, save your money. Also, it's really a pain in the rear to mount. You can only get the front screws to go in, there is no way you can get a screwdriver to the back screws. Poorly engineered, and again OVERPRICED!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pretty, but is it necessary?
The backguard is a small improvement over the standard piece the range comes fitted with, but it does add to the look. The self tapping sheet metal screws I think are a bad idea. It took a small ratchet and a lot of effort to install. I would much rather see threaded inserts and machine screws.
