We bought ours seven years ago. We absolutely love it and would buy another in the future. As with all new appliances, you have to try different ways to load...very easy and I use upper shelves for mugs and cups on one side and for tongs and large knives on the other. It is very quiet, uses very little detergent, and it is ideal for smaller household, no need to run a larger version all the time. Unless we have visitors, we run one of the drawers every other day...no smell! I am sorry to hear that this type dishwasher is being discontinued.

Comments about KitchenAid Black Double Drawer Dishwasher:
Bought this for our new home 6 years ago and now getting rid of it. Each drawer has been used less than 10 times in the six years. (About once a year when the kids all come.) I don't run it since it takes more than 6 hours for each cycle. New "controls" when still under warranty were of no help. Now the top draw is non-functional and will not wash nor cancel. Also, the drawer configurations are poorly designed. Thought it would be a good choice since it is just of the two of us. Not so!! Finally just biting the bullet and getting a new one door model. I like KitchenAid very much, but not this particular product.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Expensive but works well
By Everything Kitchen

We bought this dishwasher for our basement but rarely use it (and when we do use it, we only load glasses); it works pretty well but we haven't really tested it out on heavily stained glasses, etc. It looks good but the product was expensive so ultimately, we paid more to have a drawer dishwasher that fit well with design of our basement

To begin with the dish racks are of really poor design making for a very inefficient stacking/placement of dishes. There is no place for small items (the tilt down side shelf is useless) so items normally placed on the top shelf of a regular dishwasher have to lay at the bottom and likely interfere with cleaning of items stacked above. There isn't a load that has not required me to have to wash numerous pieces again by hand. I can't believe how poorly it cleans dishes, especially cutlery and plastics. And that detergent dispenser system...useless! The worst part is that the units develop a mildewy smell that is difficult to get rid of and if we leave for any length of time we have to remember to leave the drawers open otherwise we come home to a kitchen that smells of mildew. What is so upsetting is that it was so expensive!
initially, 7 years ago, we thought this was a great idea, but not anymore. The drawers won't stay open long enough to put dishes in or take them out, without propping the drawer(s) open! The "normal" clean cycle isn't great...simple stuff that's set in for half a day doesn't come off the dishes, so we basically have to wash the dishes before putting into the dishwasher. Kind of glad to see this model has been discontinued, however, I wonder how we will get parts, if needed down the road....

Comments about KitchenAid Stainless Steel Double Drawer Dishwasher:
The washing takes forever and does not clean dishes even after three washes. The bottom drawer holds water. I have never before bought such a rip-off lemon. Save your money and don't buy this aggravation. When I can replace this piece of junk, it will not be sold to some other unsuspecting person. Shame on KitchenAid. I won't buy another one of their products after this rip-off. I wouldn't recommend this to an enemy.
3 YEARS OLD AND NUMEROUS REPAIRS-
By Bill Kroitzsch
from Kohler, WI
My service guy is coming back again today,,,I called customer service and I told the rep that the "tech is out here so much that they don't even bother to install the dishwasher fully" because they know they will be back,,,she said it's ok because it is MAN MADE. We paid A LOT and it has not worked correctly since we bought it. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. NO PRODUCT SUPPORT Thank Bill in Kohler Wisconsin.

I have been in new home for 1 year and I chose this dishwasher to be installed in my brand new home....HUGE MISTAKE. We are a family of 5 and I am always running a dishwasher, now I just wash by hand. The bottom rack does not drain. Top and bottom does not clean dishes well at all. I have to wash them off before putting them in...kinda defeats the purpose don't you think! Well I have had repair men out to no avail and I'm sure I will have to end up buying yet another dish washer all because the people I bought it from didn't bother to tell me what a piece of junk it was!!

Good Idea, Not Ready To Perform yet
from Atlanta, GA
The dishwasher leaves spots on everything and it does not dry well. I'm replacing it with a regular Kitchen Aid with a dedicated heating element.
