Product Details

Panasonic Lumix Wide Angle Lens Silver Digital Camera, Model DMCTZ5S

Features:

  • LEICA 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 10x Optical Zoom
Now you can fit sweeping landscapes into a single frame with the 28mm wide-angle setting. Pull in subjects from far away to capture even subtle facial expressions with the dynamic 280mm telephoto setting. Ideal for traveling, the DMC-TZ5 Lumix® 9.1-megapixel digital camera combines a wide-ranging LEICA DC Vario-Elmar lens with a handy, compact body. The Extra Optical Zoom function also extends the zoom to as much as 16.9x, giving you even greater telephoto power.
  • Intelligent Auto Mode Helps Get Great Shots in Every Situation
Set the TZ5 to iA mode and let the five Intelligent Auto functions team up to help prevent shooting errors. Intelligent Exposure corrects lighting differences, so images come out just the way you see them; Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings.
  • Big, Bright 3.0" LCD with Intelligent LCD Function
With a total of 460,000 dots, the big, bright 3.0" diagonal LCD makes viewing and shooting easier and more comfortable. The Intelligent LCD adjusts brightness automatically in 10 steps as the ambient light level changes, so images are clear, bright and easy to see day or night, indoors or outdoors.
  • 30 fps High-Definition Motion Images and HD Output
The TZ5 can record motion images with sensational 1280 x 720 HD resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). You can use the zoom, too, and capture some truly dramatic shots. When you're done shooting for the day, just connect** the camera to an HDTV and you're ready to view your still shots and motion images in high-definition beauty. **Optional component cable (DMW-HDC2) required.
  • Special Travel Functions for the Perfect Trip
The Clipboard allows you to take photos of maps, timetables and other travel info. They are saved in a separate folder of the built-in memory to distinguish them from normal photos. You can print titles and other characters on the photos you shoot with the Title Edit and Stamp. This is great for creating your own postcards from a vacation trip. Input your departure date and destination with the Travel Date Setting. Later, during photo viewing, the camera will indicate on which day of the trip each shot was taken and the location.

This camera slips easily into my pocket or my wife's small purse. Weighs next to nothing, is super-easy to use, has great definition, long zoom range, bright display, good low-light performance, and more available features than we are likely ever to use taking our "happy snaps." Using medium definition we take pictures that blow up to fill my 25" PC monitor with clarity. I can clip out even small areas of our pictures and print them 5 x 6 with no blur, no pixelation. Best of all, unlike some earlier models, we can manage & download pictures and charge the camera over a single USB connection. No separate charger needed, no pulling the memory card in and out. You don't have to be a photo-hobbyist to enjoy this camera's features and performance. We've had it for only a couple of weeks, taken 1,000+ holiday pics of people and places, have no regrets and would highly recommend this camera for ordinary family usage.

I actually really liked this camera allot, It took very nice pictures and had lots of great features. However I returned it because of one unacceptable flaw...the lousy display screen. Although nice and big, it was to poorest screen I have ever seen. You need to look at it directly square to see the screen properly. From any slight angle, particularly up or down, the brightness and colors change radically. Trying to take a picture over a crowd of people, or out a window was very difficult because you can't see what you're aiming the camera at. It made previewing pictures almost impossible to judge exposure because slightly tilting the camera would make the picture look over or under exposed. Except for that one huge flaw, I loved the camera but I just couldn't accept it. If they offered the exact same camera with a better screen, I would gladly pay $50 more for it.

Unusable AF Macro Zoom â€"" 6 ft at Tele end!

    By

    from Boston, MA

Comments about Panasonic Silver Lumix Wide Angle Lens Digital Camera:

Overall SZ7 is a good compact camera. However its “AF Zoomâ€ is completely useless! 3 ft is usually the industrial standard for the minimum required focusing distance from the subject at its maximum optical magnification. On this camera “AF Zoomâ€ the minimum focusing distance from subject requirement increases exponentially and nonlinearly with the optical magnification: 1X â€" 0.16’ 2X â€" 0.98’ 4X â€" 3.3’ 7X â€" 4.9’ 9X â€" 6.6’ 10X â€" 4.9’ At 9X magnification it needs a minimum distance of 6.6 ft (not a typo!) and then it drops back down to 4.9 ft at 10X. No wonder one user commented “Macro Zoom garbage.â€ There is no workaround with this limitation. So if you need to use “AF Zoomâ€ feature quite a bit, this camera is obviously NOT for you.

I looked around at every retail store and online to fine a camera for mother's day for my wife. I've had Panasonic camera's in the past. This one is great so far. The size and the amount of features for the price are amazing. The only issues I've seen are the following: -The zoom makes a little brrrrrpp noise when extending at a certain place during the zoom. I tried 2 different cameras and both had this noise, so I can assume this is normal. Hopefully it doesn't turn into an issue. -Battery life seems a little low.

We have owned this camera for about a year. Bough it prior to a visit to Europe (Paris, Netherlands, UK); Leica lens is amazing. I owned a canon and this is by far a better and simpler product. We love it. Takes photo contest level of pictures. I used to be a pro photographer, and now I have a real job. This is an amazing package. It takes high speed volleyball pictures indorrs with limited light, the beach panoramics, portraits and scenery are amazing. Fireworks at the Mouse Trap came out awesome. In doors during parties, you can caths the lights, and candids. Shopping for a new camera for my daughter and haave eliminated the plastic Canon line for a new panasonic. Probably should ad a few cons, just so I don't come across like a TV commercial. Scene mode menu is hard to see in the daylight. My guess is that thereis a setting to change the backlight, but I really don't care. Second, could not find a cool case for it.

The controls are laid out well and easy to use. The best part of this pocket camera is the 25mm wide angle with 12X telephoto, plus 10 MP is just right. The anti-shake is good to go. I don't think any other camera company offers a camera with these specs in this price range, so this camera is a bargain. No it won't compete with a G11 or a DSLR, but then the price difference is substantial. Highly recommend for every day shooting. I have no idea why another reviewer was having trouble with the battery, as with one charge I can shoot close to 400 pix at max resolution. Good luck and have fun out there.
