Sound bars are, no matter how you look at them, a compromise over separates. Maybe you're short on dollars or are making concessions for spousal concerns about bulky audio gear... Whatever compromise you're making come to terms with it before making the purchase. Listen to what your considering in person using material you're familiar with and if you still have questions talk to the engineers/sales folk. I was able to listen to this and the companion sub locally, [...] :)Overall I am hugely impressed with Definitive products and have been for some time. While some professional reviews have suggested the need for separate amplification makes the Definitive offering less compelling than those from Polk or Yamaha, I disagree. By using a separate receiver I can add dedicated surround speakers, mains, etc. at my leisure. Hooking it up was kind of a pain because the connection area is very tight and even more so if you try to do it with the table stand on. Banana plugs will help if they're not bulky, spades might be difficult if they're supported at all. I ended up soldering bare wires and using the screw connectors.Sonically it's amazing and it's quite adept with music, which I was not expecting. It's not a true surround sound experience by any stretch of the imagination, but it's very clear, musical and never bright. The sub, which I'll review separately if I have time is frankly a bargain. I've heard a lot of subs at varying price points and I'm blown away by this thing. I can recommend either component separately or paired to you without reservation.
