Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort- or AirPort Extreme-enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.(3) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access (fees may apply). All of my media content is stored centrally on one computer and I wanted to stream music without the need to be hardwired. I know there are other options out there, but my entire setup at home is OSX, i manage my music via iTunes, and really, just felt like plugging something in that would just work.

A few things you may want to consider, but first, my setup so you know where I'm coming from.
    - I purchased this strictly to use AirTunes
    - I only use OSX at home
    - I use this as an AP off of my primary router; I do not use this as my primary internet connection
    - I use the D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N router and have 802.11n connections throughout; i'm not sure how 802.11a/b/g connections would hold up although i would suspect a/g would be fine

    Considerations:
    - I wasn't aware of this and in case you aren't either...Apple doesn't have a web version of their airport utility for setup. You must do this via Airport Utility Setup built-in on OSX. Not a problem for me, but if you have other Win workstations and wanted to make modifications to your config or check status on the fly, I'm not exactly sure how this would work. Not the biggest deal, but if you're used to a web utility (like when dealing with most routers), this would be a slight change of pace for some.
    - My setup took multiple reboots of the Airport Express. Not sure why, but my changes took a few iterations to "take". It was a little discouraging at first, but since then, everything has gone swimmingly.
    - If you have an iPhone or iTouch and use the Remote app, you can also select which speakers (e.g. from computer and/or airport express) you want to output to, which is a nice piece of integration that I wasn't expecting.
    - There is a slight lag when initially playing a song or if you fast forward thru a song. You can feel the buffer time (prob less than 3 seconds on average), but for me that's VERY small trade-off and worth having considering I now don't need to hard-wire my speakers into my "media" mac

Overall, I think this works great for AirTunes. Luckily for me, I was able to use credit card points to purchase this. If I didn't have that option, I'm not sure I'd be so quick to pay full price on this. But now that I do have it, I'm appreciative of the convenience this provides, have a mini router I can bring with me when I travel, and now considering hooking up a USB printer to it since it happens to reside in the room where I would probably put my printer.

Lastly, there is no USB external storage support for this that I know of. If this were natively available, I think it would make well worth the retail price purchase. These are the two biggest reason I only gave it 4 stars.

I hope this review helps you in making your decision. Good luck!

I hear all the rave reviews about apple products and thought I would put it in; it would locate my wifi, and once the WEP password is in it would start working. Hell no, I was so wrong. I did not understand any of the unusual terminology apple uses, so it is a waste of money. I went ahead and bought NETGEAR FWG114P at half the price which was a breeze to set up.
Previously I hated the ipod because it had to go though itunes and I could not drag and drop mp3 files bypassing the i-tune. Now this! Never an apple product again. May be apple is for more computer savvy people (I prefer drag and drop products).

I use an IMac; however, my wife uses a non apple laptop in another area of the house where it receives less than desirable connectivity. So I purchased the airport express to boost the signal. She has gone from 2 bars to full reception.

This is great one. especially with audioengine a5.
I am using this as my primary router and also remote receiver of my speaker. Sound is better when I use airport express than when I directly connect my PC to speaker, so I assume that there's DAC or sound card loaded in the product which was another good point. However, sometimes lag of streaming happened and I needed to reboot to fix the problem.

Both the Airport Extreme and the Airport Express work flawlessly in my
network with Mac's, PC's, Printers by a variety of manufacturers, and other gadgets using I.P. protocol. These units work with everything with total transparency. I have not run into a single computer product that found any computability problem with Apple's Airport line. I can not say this for other brands. Airports just work

Not as great as i expected. I have the airport express wireless G (prev. Gen.), which i loved to bits, still working after 5 years? I lost count how long I owned it anyway. This wireless N have identical function, i don't see much improvement in the range though, but 1 thing I missed dearly is the ability to hide ur network which is avail in the prev. router. By hiding my network, those who didn't know the network name could not join. I don't know of any other brands which offer this option. Apple used to. Bottom line, the Airport Express G still rule.
