Purchased in 2007, this washer has never had an issue until recently. A new door seal is needed and looks to be a simple repair. This was caused by a large sheet being caught during the drying cycle and burned up the rubber and created a thin spot to which it does not seal. This washer never leaked, never was off balance (we leveled and plumbed up the washer before use). The strainer is frequently cleaned out which is needed. The issue with this is that it is not widely known where and how its done. Simply remove the three screws from the top of the lower panel below the washer door. Once this is removed, unscrew the white thumb screw (about 1-1/2" in diameter) and be prepared to catch the water. Once the water has drained, pull the filter all the way out and clean it. Insert back in and reassemble. We also frequently clean the detergent tray and around the door seal. Good purchase overall. You need to leave the door open after every wash as you would with anything else that's gets wet and is water tight when closed.

Bought this washer about 4 years ago, it was a good performer at first, but as of last week it quit working. The drum would spin somewhat, but not enough to remove the water from the clothes. Called a service person for repair. Apparently something with the motor caused the control board to short out. The cost to repair would not be worth it. I only used the washer about twice a week for the approximate 4 years that I owned it, this means that it was quite a bit more than just going to the laundromat. I had bought the washer due to some of the features that it had. It was my first GE product and more than likely my last.

Comments about GE King-Size Capacity White Frontload Washer:
I may have had this washer maybe 4 years and for the second time the motor has gone out. I am not buying a second motor for it. You pay alot of money for this and they don't last. And there isn't anything quiet about them. I shouldn't have to keep buying a motor for it. I won't buy another GE product.

We've had this for years. Had a couple of repairs done over the years, but it's still going strong. We are a big family so this machine has been a real workhorse.

I bought this machine over ten years ago. The tumbler cracked and now I need to replace it. The repairman said they were still being manufactured, but that is not the case. Disappointed that it broke down so soon, as I am gentle handling my equipment. I guess they don't make them like they used to.

We bought and install the set two weeks ago. I already know we are saving on energy and water. Our clothes are cleaner hands down.

When the washer spins it frequently requires us to readjust the loan to keep the drum from being way out of balance. Now we are getting a rubber smell.

My mom purchased this and has had NOTHING BUT HORRIBLE ISSUES SINCE YEAR ONE! Don't bother buying! Too many to go in to! So frustrating and disheartening! Locks & can't unlock, won't start, clothes stink/smell, & more!

Decent enough washer. Gasket tore about 3 yrs in. Replaced for about 1/2 cost. Still have it 8 yrs later. No issues with reported balancing issues.
Bad Drive Pulley Design!
The large drive pulley is made of soft aluminum. The axle fitting is slotted, but over time the aluminum is reshaped by the steel shaft to the point that the pulley wobbles, makes a huge racket, and even causes the drive belt to come off the pulley. The pulley would have been better designed with a stronger metal (steel) to provide a longer life and higher reliability.
