Thanks to 3 racks and 5 positions, the oven presents flexibility as well. Plus, it's self-cleaning.

Summary - This stove cooks great, has nice features, is easy to use, and looks great too.

I love my new stove. It looks good and works wonderfully. And I got a good deal on it at a local ?ma 'n pa? type of appliance store that matched the big box sale price and gave me full service, plus I received a $100 rebate from Whirlpool. It pays to shop around some.

Here are some comments of pros and cons on style, ergonomics, function and ?fit?.

Style _ The ceramic cooktop is recessed with a border that looks more like traditional range top, unlike most others where the cooktop is flat from end to end. You have to love it or not, I think it's fine. The cooktop is shiny black and this goes well with the stainless finish of the front, and mixes into my kitchen well with other black appliances. In other words, you can go with black or stainless appliances with this one. Since the range top is glossy though, expect to polish it a lot.

The burner make-up is a little stingy but functional. There are 4 basic burners and two are limited to 6? diameter. Other stoves at this price point have more flexible option such as griddle burners and sometimes 5 burners. One burner is 12? and will be of limited value unless you cook for a crew I think.

The control panel is glass except for the buttons. This is a lot nicer than some of the all-soft panel controls, and it cleans well. The trim around the control panel is nicely done too, I like it better than GE or Frigidaire models that I had looked at.

Ergonomics _ The control panel is tilted so it's very accessible (and harder for little ones to get to#. You don't have to bend over to see what you're setting. I passed on other stoves where the controls were not angled much.

The oven control is simplified and laid out rather nicely. The buttons are labeled clearly and the purpose is fairly intuitive and obvious without a lot special and obscure functions that see little use.

The knobs though for the burners are mediocore. The print is small, and when there's a dual-burner, the knob has to control both, so there's less fine adjustment. The real beef I have with the knobs is that they are indications for ?Hi?, ?Lo? and a symbol for medium with nothing in between. The single element burners use ?MED? in the middle setting. Makes for some guesswork. Maybe someone has done this, but it seems instead of controlling two burners in one turn of the knob, there should be a method to switch a burner on, then give full range of control of it in a single turn. Makes sense to me.

Function _ There are 3 racks in the oven and one of them is split so that you can remove half of the rack. I haven't figured out what to use this for but I suppose it might be useful. The oven has a ?hidden element? in the bottom to make cleanup easy. The oven window and good lighting make for easy viewing inside. The digital control and display takes all guesswork out of the temperature setting. If only some of this functionality had transferred to the cooktop control.

Setting the timer is easy but canceling it can be puzzling. Although it may seem intuitive to press the ?cancel? button, it doesn't work. Instead, you have to put the timer on hold, set the timer for ?0? #zero) and restart it. Hey, this is a computer, why not program it either way? One other thing about the clock, you can only set it in whole minutes. Would be nice to add 30 seconds sometimes.

One thing I found surprising was that a fan came in when doing just regular baking. I believe this is for the oven vent. I would expect this for convection cooking but didn't for normal baking. If there's other background noise it's not too noticeable though. More an observation than anything.

Fit _ I looked at installation for a lot of ovens because I was working with a limited space. I **really** wish these manufacturers would give you the actual dimensions of the range instead of just the cutout.

That aside, the stove simply sticks out too far. The installation forgets to factor in a counter overhang. This leaves about an inch back from the over door which presents another issue. That is, the side panels have four holes on each side about a half-inch. These appear to be for ease of assembly, but they leave them exposed. I did not se this in any other stove I looked at, it's a mystery to me why the engineers didn't see this.

There are a few other areas I've noticed where things don;t quite fit fully flush. They don;t detract unless by close inspection, still, can be annoyance.

Worst Range Ever!

By

from Winston Salem NC

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Slide-In Electric Range:

I have the same feelings as some others, if I could rate this a minus 10 I would! There should be a class action lawsuit against whirlpool for this range. Once you use the self cleaning oven it never works right again. I didn't use my self cleaning till a year after it was purchased and by then I had no warranty and when I called Whirlpool they just referred me to an extended warranty company which I paid $189.00. Within 1 year my control panel and circuit board was replaced 3 times. I spoke with Whirlpool several times, they could have cared less. I have had it for 4 years now and cannot use the self cleaning oven and no matter what I set my oven temp to it will never stay. For example I can put it on 350 and before the baking time is completed it has gone to over 400 degree. Repairmen were at my house 6 times in one year & was able to see how high the temps went. One even set it on 375 and it reached 500 degrees during his testing. I was finally told there was nothing they could do. All I know is I will never, ever own another Whirlpool appliance or any appliance under another name made by the same manafacturer s Whirlpool. I am now checking into how to initiate a class action lawsuit against them as so many have had the same trouble. Do yourself a favor, steer clear of this range, or Whirlpool for that matter!

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Slide-In Electric Range:

Only had it a couple of months when the control panel went out and couldn't use the oven at all. Got it fixe under warranty and has been OK now for a few weeks since the replaced control panel.
I am "gunshy" now of the controls for these appliances.

Pretty good range

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Slide-In Electric Range:

I am happy with the range. It looks nice, is easy to clean, and I like the oven, which seems to be convection. However, for those who want to do canning, make jam, or candy, the burners will not keep up a rolling boil. Even on "high", they are programmed to only maintain 212 degrees, and will cycle off when the pan reaches that temperature. It would also be nice if someone would design a piece - that comes with the range - to fill in the back space between the back of the range and the splashback.

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Slide-In Electric Range:

I recently did a small remodel in my kitchen and this was part of my project. I love the look of the range and it is so easy to operate. It has so many great features but it is not so complex that I have to continually have the book out to figure out what to do. Price was very good and I am extremely pleased with my purchase!

piece of junk

By

from canada

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Slide-In Electric Range:

If I can give this product less than 1 star, i'd give it a -10. The other review is very accurate; it takes FOREVER to properly heat. The beep will sound off wayyy BEFORE the interior temps reaches the TRUE temp. I had to buy real thermometers to put inside the oven to get an accurate reading. But the worst feature about this product is its touch pad. Number 0 didn't work a year after I bought it. Then it was number 9, then 6, now number 4. After the numbers, the BAKE, BROIL, WARM, CONVECT BAKE, etc.. touches stopped working. Now, I can't work my oven altogether since none of the touches are working. I am telling Whirlpool about the problem and the only thing it is willing to do is to send a technician and charge me a leg and an arm to get it fixed. HELLO!!!!

GRRRRR

By

from Raynham, Ma.

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Slide-In Electric Range:

I have owned this stove for just 3 years. LOVE the look and up until last week was happy with the way it cooked. Went to cook dinner one night hit bake button and nothing. The burners work, but nothing else. I paid 3x as much money for this "flat top" stove for the oven to stop working after just 3 years and I mean JUST 3 years (hit 3 year 9 weeks ago). Having trouble finding someone reasonable to come out and look at this; the few I have spoken to are telling me could be costly to fix....GREAT! Very disappointed in Whirlpool.
