It works.FUNCTIONAL:- Keeps stuff frozen- Chest style tends to be more efficient since the cold air doesn't dump out on the floor when you open it.- Plastic liner in top is a bit flimsy, appears subject to damage if you are not careful- Baskets and divider, while very helpful in organizing a chest freezer, are a bit flimsy, but so far after about a year holding up well.- Sheet metal outside cover is very thin, subject to denting.COST:- Very reasonable cost, especially if you source carefully- Operating cost is barely noticeable, keep it full tho. We put frozen gallon water jugs in it when not full, having added benefit of providing cold mass during a power outage.BENEFITS OF NON-DEFROST FREEZER:- Lower operating cost since in a self-defrost freezer, the process is executed with a heating element just like in your electric oven! (cool it down, heat it up, then cool it down!?!)- So, your frozen bread stays frozen. In a self-defrost freezer your bread (and other low-density items) thaw every time the freezer defrosts. (We learned this last one from the GE Service Tech who repaired our GE frig.)

After doing some research and reading a lot of good reviews, I decided to buy this freezer. It was performing nicely for a little over 6 months, then after a lightning storm the power went out and a few days later I noticed a strange clicking noise coming from the freezer and noticed it had stopped working. It wasn't plugged into a surge protector, so maybe that was the cause. When it was working it was very quiet, kept things at the proper temp. and is a great size for our kitchen. It's still under warranty and the service guy will be here in 4 days to fix it. Luckily, I was able to save all the food that was in there.

Stops working after 2 years!!!
I loved this freezer, but it dies after 2 years leaving us with a huge loss of food and a terrible mess and smell that I can not get rid of.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Good size for a family of six
We purchased this when our other brand freezer died right after the warranty ran out. It has surpassed our other freezers life span & does not frost as much, even with less product in it. Runs cold even at a low level setting. Its not too deep so my 10 year old can fetch me something off of the bottom if needed.

Good price, but not reliable

This has worked great except after 22 months the thermostat has started to not function correctly. When the thermostat turns off because the freezer is cold enough, the compressor never comes on again and everything in my freezer melted. If I manually turn off the thermostat then back on, the compressor starts up. But then when cold enough it turns off and never comes back on again.

I bought this for extra freezer space and now I can buy large bargain items like turkey when its on special. Also great for storing grains.

Bought a GE FCM7 freezer in April 2003 in Houston and it's still running well. I look forward to the same service with this unit. I notice my new purchase has no lock and no retaining grill over the compressor bulge inside the feezer. Disappointing! Hope nothing else has been cheapened such as compressor and related parts. Please comment. Sincerely, Joseph Macek

Freezer items are the way to go with our family and the freezer that we purchased was the perfect size for our basement. It's also so quiet that I forget that it's there!!!
