This is the first large refrigerator we have ever owned and it really works well for us. We have only used it for three weeks or so but we love it. I have seen earlier reviews saying that the fridge was noisy, a criticism I question. I cannot believe how quiet this fridge runs. Our only mistake was not getting the water filtration system included but that was an error on our part. The fridge is elegantly styled and fits perfectly for our lifestyle.

I have had the same problem with leaking as the other reviewers (TWICE now). I hope Whirlpool is paying attention because this is clearly a problem that is not confined to only a few people and the company really needs to address this issue and provide a fix. Water pools at the bottom of the freezer and freezes and eventually the ice gets so thick that it drains out onto the floor. The first time it was fixed under warranty ("drain clog"), this time it was not under warranty so I was determined to fix it myself. What is happening is that the drain under the drip pan (under the freezer coils) is getting frozen over and clogged with ice. Eventually the entire pan fills with ice and then begins to spill onto the freezer bottom, then eventually onto the kitchen floor. This probably first occurred if the freezer door was left partially open which allowed extra condensation to form inside. If you own this product you know this is VERY easy to really have to throw your weight into the door to close it all the way (which is a another complaint in my opinion). Naturally, the drain is not easily accessible and it is not simple to unclog. So, there are two possible fixes: 1) Defrost the freezer. Clearly the simplest way to get rid of ice. If your freezer was anything like mine, there was a ton of ice accumulation so I'd suggest letting it defrost for at least 24 hours. Trust me, this is the easiest method and will yield the same results as fixing it yourself or even having a repairman come out. 2) I only did it this way because I was still trying to figure out the actual problem, so again I suggest just defrosting. But to access the drip pan, you have to take off the freezer door and the racks and take off the back panel inside the freezer. However, you can't take it all the way off unless you remove the ice maker, but it is a flimsy piece of metal so I was able to just bend it to access the pan and expose the coils. You have to chisel what was an INSANE amount of ice (I wish I could post a picture on here) out of all the piping, the pan, and the drain. I realized I couldn't get full access to the drain so I had to remove the back bottom of the freezer to be able to clean the drain from the bottom. More work than it's worth. Bottom line: It's an easy fix so DON'T CALL A REPAIRMAN if not under warranty (unless it is another issue). Again, Whirlpool needs to address this, or at least let customers know of this problem. Seems to me it is a design flaw...there is a tiny little slit in the bottom of the drip pan that spills into a 1/4 inch wide drain. I'm no engineer but that seems like an avoidable problem to me (how easy is it for that small of an opening to get frozen over?). And I'm just speculating about the freezer door being left open causing extra condensation building up, maybe it's a bigger problem. Another irritation is that the temperature control unit is right at the front in the top middle of the fridge and takes up about half of the width of the top shelf. Vertical space on the top shelf is tight anyway, and any taller items (e.g. gallon of milk or a two gallon pitcher) will not fit under that unit, so you have to pull them out from the SIDES, which of course severely limits accessibility. Otherwise, it is an "ok" product. No complaints about performance and it is a sharp looking fridge.

Comments about Whirlpool Black Bottom Freezer Refrigerator:

We bought this refrigerator to replace our old, standard freezer on top fridge. We were so excited before it arrived and now that it's been in place for almost 2 months, we sometimes want the old one back. I want to give it 5 stars but I'm not so sure that we are as satisified with it as we thought we would be initially. We are trying to get acustomed to the new style but it's taking longer than we thought.

It does exactly what it should!

Comments about Whirlpool Black Bottom Freezer Refrigerator:

We live in a world where telephones take pictures and televisions stream the internet. It's refreshing to own an appliance that does just what its name implies very well and doesn't attempt some other function poorly! If you want a conveniently styled fridge that keeps food fresh and easily accessible at eye level, then this is the model for you. After 11 years of a side by side that finally bit the dust I really wanted a French door configuration and researched all the manufacturers and models thoroughly, via both the internet and trips to area stores to "kick tires". (Daunting!) Appliances have changed drastically over the last decade and it's no longer a simple matter to choose a reliable model with only the features you want. Eventually I discovered this fridge which was exactly what I was looking for. It is simply designed and user friendly without all the unnecessary bells and whistles. The use of space is maximized by eliminating the in-the-door ice and water feature ( and therefore the filter and related cost). We have always used bottled water so all I want is ice from my fridge. The shelves are deep and ample, and can easily be reconfigured to use the space exactly how I want to. I love that the "roof" above the top shelf is also usable space and not taken up with controls or filters. The controls are as basic as you can ask for and easy to use with fewer costly electronics to fail and cost bucks. The two crispers are very large and keep produce and fruit much fresher than my old one did. The pull out wide shelf underneath them is one of my favorite features and we use it for our dairy and cold cuts. The interior is very bright and the bulbs can be changed by the owner, unlike a competitor's that required a service call to do such a simple task! Perhaps the only thing I liked about my old side to side was the number and size of the shelves on the door. That was one feature I wanted to replicate because we keep a lot of condiments in bottles and jars on-hand and this fridge has room to hold everything on the doors that my old one did. (The one exception is a dedicated egg shelf.) There are 6 door shelves, 4 can be re-arranged, and two are gallon size. To the reviewer who couldn't find a place to stand his wife's wine bottle upright, I'd suggest doing what I did and store it in one of the gallon shelves on the door. It works perfectly that way. One of the things I liked least about my old side to side was the freezer compartment which was cramped because of the narrowness and it was tough to find exactly what was in there. When I cleaned it out to be taken away, I discovered items that had been buried and were out of date long ago. The pull out freezer drawer of this new fridge solves that problem. Everything can be easily seen, arranged, and gotten to. I find that I'm using things up quicker from the freezer because I don't have to unload the front to get to what's on the back of the shelf like I did in my old one. The freezer is also brightly lit. Ice is in the top drawer and you simply slide the shelf to access it. It makes a ton of ice quickly and I'm glad to have that feature back because the ice unit on my old one quit long ago. To those who have said the unit is noisy, I can't imagine why unless there is a problem. This fridge is extremely quiet in my estimation. We have an open concept kitchen/living room area with all tile floors and I hardly know that the fridge is on from the very low sounds it occasionally makes. My old one made a lot more sounds, most of which were very loud, so the new fridge is a pleasure in that regard in comparison. Also, to the reviewer who said his unit rolled on tile, we have not found that to be true. The fridge stays in place and doesn't move at all on our ceramic tile surface. All in all we are very pleased so far with this purchase. (Have owned it for a month.)

Comments about Whirlpool Black Bottom Freezer Refrigerator:

The stainless finish is lovely. Interior is spacious; I like the adjustable shelves. The freezer drawer could be a bit sturdier, maybe add a small tray on the inside of freezer door for small items. Overall, we are very pleased with this refrigerator and would recommend it.

Comments about Whirlpool Black Bottom Freezer Refrigerator:

I want to love this refrigerator, but after living with it for a couple of months now, I would not purchase this type of fridge in the future. I have to "brace" myself to open the freezer drawer, and could say pulled a muscle, so I alternate how I open it now. Also have to open both doors to access the drawers inside. It sure looks nice though.

Comments about Whirlpool Black Bottom Freezer Refrigerator:

I am pleased with this refrigerator except for one thing, you must always close the left side door first. The mechanism on the top of this door does not adjust itself to close if the right side door is closed first. It requires just a bit too much planning to close a refrigerator door.
