Back in the 1970's, I was a sports photographer and I had probably $50K worth of cameras, darkroom, and other equipment. Now, I'm 54, and the mother of a 30-year old daughter. I'm disabled, too. So, I'm not in any need of professional equipment. Nevertheless, when I use my Nikon Coolpix S570, I have the power and versatility I need to take a great portraits of my daughter, and other friends and family, along with gorgeous pix of the landscape around my community. I live in northern Colorado, so I'm surrounded by beauty; it's just up to me to capture it. One other great benefit of my S570, is its slim size and ease of use. One of my health issues is a lack of feeling [other than pain] in my hands, so I need a camera that does a lot of the thinking for me, and allows me to "not fidget" with its features. I'm pretty darned happy with my S570 overall; you would be, too.

S570 has loads of features but they are of no use if camera cannot perform well. Startup is fast. Picture saving is slow. I used a 16 GB class 10 card and still felt long time lag between two pictures. Low light photos are too bad and slow .. I have to hold camera 5-6 seconds to shoot a picture and picture comes very blurry. In my camera I got a basic firmware problem. Two weeks ago first time I shifted the camera to Smart Portrait mode and since then it's un-usable. Camera screen froze. I couldn't turn off. The only way to turn off is remove battery. As soon as I put back battery the lens goes back in and camera goes to turn off mode. Now if I turn it on, It hangs after startup with continuous startup repeated music. To turn off remove battery and put back in. I bought this camera last year. I don't have a extended warrenty. It's sitting dead in my desk. Overall, I'm unhappy.

Comments about Nikon Graphite Black 14.5 Megapixel COOLPIX Digital Camera:
I happen to enjoy my Nikon camera. I think that it is an absolutely wonderful product for the photography enthusiast. I have had no complaints other that the flash response time. Think it could be a little more quick that it is than again that could be impatience on my behalf. I love to take mine with me everywhere(for the most part) that I go. I almost feel as though there is always an opportunity to capture a moment in time that would have other wise passed by if my handy camera where not there to collect these moments for me. I love it!!!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

GOOD SIZE - SOME PROBLEMS
By SUZIE SNAPS
THIS WORKED WELLL WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED IT. LATELY, MORE THAN HALF MY PHOTOS GET A "BLURRY" WARNING. LIKELY MY OWN PROBLEM. WILL HAVE TO CHECK MANUAL. WILL COME BACK AND RE-REVIEW IF IT IS. VERY FRUSTRATING RIGHT NOW. ALSO CAN NOT GET CLOSEUPS OF MARKS ON BOTTOM OF PORCELAIN OBJECTS. PLEASE POST IF YOU HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS.

A competent camera

I've owned this camera several years and have used it in different shooting situations but still don't know enough about it to be able to use it to it's fullest. It takes a fine picture with plenty of modes to try, and if you go to the menu you will find lots of options to experiment with. It's a nice compact size that fits in your hand and in a pocket, good zoom capabilities, pretty good battery life too. I would like to be able to photograph concerts in low-light conditions without the sensor restricting me, but daylight and flash modes work fine. I'm happy with this purchase and would buy another Nikon (which I am looking into).
Very problematic camera

I liked this camera at first, but after sending it in 4 times for repair the honeymoon is definitely over. I had the same time/date problem everyone else had. I also had debris on the sensor like others; even after cleaning and factory repair the dirt came back. I have not had lens issues, but the control wheel on the back of mine stopped working and was replaced. Mine came with an additional 2 year extended warranty which is the only reason I have not replaced it up to now.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Love this camera I've had it for years and it still works like new!!
Great camera, small, light, easy to use, good features!
coolpix is garbage
Takes great pictures until it breaks. It broke under the extended warranty period. Did without a camera for Christmas last year. They replaced it and now a year later this one is broken. Cheap product!
Awesome!!! Great for the price

I have had this camera since 2007 and i love it!! Got it for $150 and dropped it on the concrete garage floor and not so much as a dent in it!! My D90 does take better pics but it is an SLR camera, so it makes sense. However the pictures are better than my moms Canon and Dads Samsung!! Which is saying a lot since my moms camera has 14.1 megapixels. This camera simply blows the competition away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never going to get rid of it!!!!!!!!!!

not what i expected
By well this is one of those get what you pay for
i have had this camera for about a 1.5yrs and its does ok the zoom is awful. and the time it takes to take a picture is rediculous. it auto focuses like 5 times before it takes the picture and the it sits on the same picture for quite some time the video quality is the best either. its just an overall not good camera..
