Let me start of by saying, having 4 animals that shed, I vacuum daily...sometimes tiwce. I want to say this Hoover is an Awesome vacuum! It has excellent power! Some people complained that the vacuum is loud. Actually, is is not louder than the other 3 uprights I own. The only problem I have had with it is that I broke the cheap plastic piece that holds the powered hand tool on the front of the vacuum on its second use! So be gentle with it when you remove the hand tool! Surely Hoover could have designed that piece a little better. It is literally a tiny piece of plastic that the hand tool is suppsed to snap in and out of. Problem solved however with a small piece of velcro on the back of the hand tool. Having had several newer vacuums, incuding a Bissel Lift off pet that is a COMPLETE DISASTER and actually heavier than this self propelled Hoover, I can say this is the best mid priced model on the market. It is extremely easy to manuever around the house. You just have to get used to the fact that when you get close to furniture or in tight areas, you should turn the power drive off. Besides the Bissel, the other bagless vacuum we have is a Eureka Whirlwind which was a cheap model we purchaed for the second floor but has held up well. It however, has a a very awakward dust cup that you have to remove a filter inside the cup to empty it. The Bissel has an extremely small dust cup that has to be emptied 2 to 3 times per use (and I live in a town house). Lets just say that after my experience with these two vacuums, I have had enough of the mess and inconvenience that bagless vacuums are, not to mention the filters you are always either washing or replacing! Why did I choose the Windtunnel? Well, I recently was given my grandmothers Hoover Concept one with powerdrive which has to be at least 30 years old. It still works great by the way after installing a new bag and belts. This vacuum has Hoover's "Power Drive" (self propelled) which as a kid, I remember being facinated with. It was the 80's what can I say...lol Unfortunately, Hoover has decided to discontinue making the brushrolls for this excellent model so although it is still going strong, it misses some ares of the carpet due to the worrn brushes. After using it for the first time in years, I thought to myself, wow, I don't have to go out to the garage and dump or shake anything! What I decided I liked most about this vacuum was that it used bags and was self propelled. So I decided to start looking for a replacement with the things I new I wanted. This is why I decided to go with the Hoover Windtunnel. My only negative fellings toward Hoover is that they abandoned manufacturing in the US a few years ago [@]. But after reading the reviews on a few sites, checking out the fact that it has a 3 year warrenty, and knowing the quality of my other newer vacuums from different manufacturers, I figured what the heck, I'll give Hoover a try again. I am glad I did! After looking at many online retailers, including the big box stores, I discoverd that the Hoover website offerred the exact same model at significant savings! The bags on the Hoover site are also cheaper than almost everywere else, espeically when discounted for buying more than 1. So my impressions of this machine so far a very good. IT is exactly what I was looking for. It pulled up the carpet pile up very well and sucked all the dog and cat hair off the furniture with ease. AFter flipping over the new vacuum and the old Hoover Concept, (I know, I'm a nerd, but I was curious) I was pleasantly surprised to see that the self propelled unit on the new vacuum looks to be almost exactly the same as the one on the sturdy old Concept 1. Looks like Hoover must have know a good thing when they saw it! That is about all that is similar. Is it a sturdy American made product that you remember Hoovers being? No, but if you look around, it is much better than the current competition at this price. I am so far very pleased with this vacuum! Sorry for the run on's and the long review.

We have had two of these. We liked the self-propelled feature and the powerful suction,so when the first one broke, we returned it and got another one. When the second one broke too, both had the carpet/hard floor selector switch break, we realized it must have been a design flaw. We are not willing to gamble on a third one. Currently looking for a dependable/reliable replacement.

Exceptional cleaning ability

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

We actually purchased 2 Hoover Anniversary Wind Tunnel Self propelled bagged upright. We had one for a number of years and replaced it with a bag less. We were not happy with emptying the bag less. We always liked our bagged wind tunnel. We now have one for upstairs and downstairs.

Third in Fifteen years

By

from Las Vegas, NV, United States

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

This is my third WindTunnel self-propelled bagged Hoover in fifteen years. Each of the previous ones lasted about seven years each. This current model has obviously been cost reduced from the previous versions. Hopefully these reductions are only cosmetic and will not change the durability and life of the vacuum. It cleans quite well, but like Consumers says - it is loud.

It's light weight, and cleans the carpet. It does squeal and the attachments fall off easily. But it works well

Depending on Hoover was a letdown

By

from NJ

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

I just bought this vacumn and the first time I tried it - it was making a screaming like noise. I checked it out to no avail. Kept vacumning and five minutes later it started to smell like something was burning....almost like a bacon smell. It kept getting stronger so I immediately unplugged it and now it's going back to store. Even though the suction was great on my thick carpet - I was extremely disappointed in this brand new vacumn. I always put Hoover as my first choice but now not so sure.

Getting to know this wonderful and unusual WindTun

By

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

I just got this a week ago and it is so different from anything I have known. It really is great, but powerful. Maybe because it is so powerful, it shut down my surge protector, the first time I plugged it in. Guess that is a no-no.

We really wanted to keep this vacuum , BUT...

By

from New Orleans, LA, United States

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

I, like many other consumers, researched vacuums not only on Consumer Reports, but also on CRI which is the Carpet & Rug Institute. CRI listed the Hoover Anniversary Wind Tunnel as a silver level performer. I purchased the product via Amazon and received it on a Friday, so I was able to really try it out during the weekend. All attachments worked great...vacuuming my area rug was a breeze...the power of this thing was unbelievable compared to any other vacuum I've owned! It was a bit heavy, but nothing I couldn't handle. When I got to the bedrooms to vacuum the carpets, it was all over. It would not easily move across the floor, backward or forward...and we do not have plush carpet although it isn't berber either. I was so disappointed. We checked every moving part and all was prefect. We even looked at Hoover videos to help out with the problem of the vacuum not easily moving over the carpet it was designed to clean in the first place. It still checked out that all parts were in operating order. We tried it again and the vacuum could absolutely not live up to its promised feature which by the way is listed first on the Hoover website. The listing reads "Makes vacuuming effortless whether going forward or in reverse." That doesn't happen even with the height set to highest pile. I think this vacuum could be a perfect fit for another type of consumer, but unfortunately vacuuming regular pile carpets is something this product struggles with. I don't know which product to purchase next as I was convinced that I had found it. I have to give it a '2' for quality as it's a vacuum and should handle the job of vacuuming carpets. SImple as that. Even though every other feature of this vacuum is outstanding, we will have to return it. Hoover, could you please advise?

Problems with Using on Thick Carpet

By

from Kansas

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

After installing a new, plush/thick carpet in my living room, I found it difficult to use the vacuum I had because it didn't move easily. I decided to buy a new vacuum that would be easier to maneuver. I did my research and decided on this vacuum due to the self-propelled feature. The first time I used the vacuum, it was harder to push than my old vacuum and after four passes on the carpet, the wheels locked up and I couldn't move it at all. I was instructed to take it to a service location, which I did, and they stated the belt had come off so they put it back in place. I took the vacuum home and tried using it again. The belt came off after three passes on the carpet. I went back to the service center and they told me the belt was too loose so I would need to buy a new one (keep in mind that I had to pay for a new belt and had not yet been able to vacuum a room). On the third try, I made it half way through the living room before the belt came off and the vacuum locked up again and the smell of something (belt or engine) overheating was extreme. I am frustrated beyond words. The only reason I bought a new vacuum was to have a machine that was easier to use on my new carpet and it appears this machine doesn't work on plush/thick carpets at all. It should be disclosed as a warning so others aren't wasting their money as I have. The hose for attachments is also very stiff. I tried using the attachments and had to keep one hand on the vacuum to keep it from tipping over because the hose wouldn't extend easily. I am very disappointed with this machine and the entire experience. I was expecting something better from Hoover.

This vacuum is so easy to use that I really don't mind vacuuming. My other one which is not self propelled is so hard to use. And I hate emptying the bagless container. I much prefer the bag which is so much more sanitary.
