Let me start of by saying, having 4 animals that shed, I vacuum daily...sometimes tiwce. I want to say this Hoover is an Awesome vacuum! It has excellent power! Some people complained that the vacuum is loud. Actually, is is not louder than the other 3 uprights I own. The only problem I have had with it is that I broke the cheap plastic piece that holds the powered hand tool on the front of the vacuum on its second use! So be gentle with it when you remove the hand tool! Surely Hoover could have designed that piece a little better. It is literally a tiny piece of plastic that the hand tool is suppsed to snap in and out of. Problem solved however with a small piece of velcro on the back of the hand tool. Having had several newer vacuums, incuding a Bissel Lift off pet that is a COMPLETE DISASTER and actually heavier than this self propelled Hoover, I can say this is the best mid priced model on the market. It is extremely easy to manuever around the house. You just have to get used to the fact that when you get close to furniture or in tight areas, you should turn the power drive off. Besides the Bissel, the other bagless vacuum we have is a Eureka Whirlwind which was a cheap model we purchaed for the second floor but has held up well. It however, has a a very awakward dust cup that you have to remove a filter inside the cup to empty it. The Bissel has an extremely small dust cup that has to be emptied 2 to 3 times per use (and I live in a town house). Lets just say that after my experience with these two vacuums, I have had enough of the mess and inconvenience that bagless vacuums are, not to mention the filters you are always either washing or replacing! Why did I choose the Windtunnel? Well, I recently was given my grandmothers Hoover Concept one with powerdrive which has to be at least 30 years old. It still works great by the way after installing a new bag and belts. This vacuum has Hoover's "Power Drive" (self propelled) which as a kid, I remember being facinated with. It was the 80's what can I say...lol Unfortunately, Hoover has decided to discontinue making the brushrolls for this excellent model so although it is still going strong, it misses some ares of the carpet due to the worrn brushes. After using it for the first time in years, I thought to myself, wow, I don't have to go out to the garage and dump or shake anything! What I decided I liked most about this vacuum was that it used bags and was self propelled. So I decided to start looking for a replacement with the things I new I wanted. This is why I decided to go with the Hoover Windtunnel. My only negative fellings toward Hoover is that they abandoned manufacturing in the US a few years ago [@]. But after reading the reviews on a few sites, checking out the fact that it has a 3 year warrenty, and knowing the quality of my other newer vacuums from different manufacturers, I figured what the heck, I'll give Hoover a try again. I am glad I did! After looking at many online retailers, including the big box stores, I discoverd that the Hoover website offerred the exact same model at significant savings! The bags on the Hoover site are also cheaper than almost everywere else, espeically when discounted for buying more than 1. So my impressions of this machine so far a very good. IT is exactly what I was looking for. It pulled up the carpet pile up very well and sucked all the dog and cat hair off the furniture with ease. AFter flipping over the new vacuum and the old Hoover Concept, (I know, I'm a nerd, but I was curious) I was pleasantly surprised to see that the self propelled unit on the new vacuum looks to be almost exactly the same as the one on the sturdy old Concept 1. Looks like Hoover must have know a good thing when they saw it! That is about all that is similar. Is it a sturdy American made product that you remember Hoovers being? No, but if you look around, it is much better than the current competition at this price. I am so far very pleased with this vacuum! Sorry for the run on's and the long review.

We have had two of these. We liked the self-propelled feature and the powerful suction,so when the first one broke, we returned it and got another one. When the second one broke too, both had the carpet/hard floor selector switch break, we realized it must have been a design flaw. We are not willing to gamble on a third one. Currently looking for a dependable/reliable replacement.

Not good for plush carpets

By

from Kentucky

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

We purchased this Hoover after reading positive reviews. We had purchased another Hoover months ago and had to give it away as it just did not work well on our thick carpet. After trying the self propelled Hoover we like several things about it. It does well on wood floors and area rugs. It is very difficult to use on our plush carpet even on the high setting. The bagged Hoover is a plus for us as we really do not like bagless vacuums. I am not sure what the perfect vacuum for use is with our new plush carpet but for me it is not this Hoover - my husband is able to use it better than I so he will be our main carpet "vacuumer" for awhile.

Suction

By

from Dover, PA, United States

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

I bought the Selp-propelled Hoover WindTunnel because I had an earlier model because it was old. The new one does not have good suction or propulsion. The first time I turned it on it grabbed a low pile carpet and started to smoke. I turned it off and reset the carpet style. I've only used it twice and I am not happy with it's performance. I have a pet Collie and the machine does not pick up the hair or the bits and pieces of mulch she brings in the house. (Dirty Dog) I get good suction only when I use the tools on board.

Too Soon To Judge

By

from Sunrise, FL

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

I've rated the vacuum 4 stars for the excellent service Hoover has demostrated and the vacuum has all the features that I wanted but I've only had my Hoover long enough to vacuum once. The self propelling feature that makes cleaning "virtually effortless" was not. The vacuum feels like you are trying to move a lead weight. My husband discovered the underneath wheels weren't turning. We thought that was the problem. Hoover was very quick to gave us the name of a nearby shop to have it repaired. When we brought it home, the wheels worked fine but the self propelled feature isn't kicking in - there's little difference whether it is off or on. So back to the shop we go... At this time I can't recommend this product until I've had it longer & it is working properly.

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

Our Vac is a replacement for same model. This our 3 or 4th self propelled Hoover Vac. Hoover replaced out last Vac which was about 2 years old, no cost, no shippint, totally free. We think the motor quit. NO HASSELL. In about 10 days we have a net machine.

Powerful, heavy

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

My last vacuum was light weight and bag-less. Was easy to pick up and push. Shame I had more dirt on my floor after trying to empty the bag-less container and was easy to push because it had no power. The self propelling mechanism on this Hoover helps and I love the bags. I really think it works well.

2nd WindTunnel

By

from Williamstown, WV, United States

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

This is the second Hoover Self Prop'l Wind Tunnel that we have purchased. Love the self propelled feature. The previous one lasted about 15 years during which I had to replace the brush drive belt twice. That said, it was a very good dependable vacuum. (The motor finally gave up the ghost after 15 yrs.), The reason we stayed with the bagged model was the bagless were to high when laying flat to fit under the beds. The bagged model does quite well.

Hard to push

By

from Southern California

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

This is my third or fourth Hoover over the decades and this is self-propelled but you never know it. It's the only one I've ever had that is difficult to push no matter how much I change the level of the rug setting, I also have a bag which didn't want.

I love my new vacuum. I have another Hoover that still works great, but it is so heavy and so hard for me to push around. This new one is a breeze and it cleans very well.

Design changes have devalued this product

By

from Athens, GA, United States

Comments about Hoover U6485900 WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Self-Propelled Bagged Blue Upright Vacuum:

This is the second Hoover Model 6485900 vacuum that I have purchased. I bought my first one several years ago and was favorably impressed with the original. It was wide, allowing me to vacuum a given area in less time than with previous vacuums I had owned. For instance, I could vacuum my hallways in four strokes instead of five. It had a long cord, and I could clean a large room, or two small ones, without having to switch the plug to another outlet. One accessory that I purchased was an extra-long hose that made it easier to clean stairs. (However, stretching the hose too far could cause the vacuum to tip over.) I never found the "dirt finder" lights particularly useful, as there seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to whether the green or red light would be lit, but that was of no particular consequence. One slight disadvantage of my Wind Tunnel vacuum was that it was heavy. It didn't matter during operation, however, because of the power drive. But carrying it up and down stairs became riskier as I grew older. So I decided to buy a separate vacuum for my downstairs rooms. The new vacuum was the same model number as the old one, and it had most of the same advantages and disadvantages. But to my disappointment, I discovered a number of design changes that made me unhappy. The most annoying was the way in which the powered hand tool was stored. On my original Hoover, the tool was held in place by a clear plastic door over the tool's storage compartment. On the redesigned vacuum there is no door, and the tool is supposed to snap into place and be held there by a plastic tab at the top of the storage slot. The fit was so tight that I had to use substantial force to pull the tool out to use it, though I was faithfully following the directions in the user manual. The third time that I removed the tool from its storage slot, the plastic retaining tab broke off, and the tool would no longer stay in place during operation. Rather than return the vacuum, I began using a small piece of cardboard as a wedge to hold the tool in its storage slot. (I don't use the tool much on the lower floor anyway, and the vacuum ran well otherwise.) I noticed, too, that the dust brush and upholstery tool (a.k.a. the "furniture nozzle") had also been redesigned. The former has fewer and shorter bristles, and the latter now has no bristles at all. I am not fond of either change. Overall, my new Hoover Wind Tunnel vacuum still has many of the features I liked on my original. However, I think that some of the design changes that have been made to this model in the last few years have made it a less valuable product. Had the new vacuum been identical to the original, I would have given it five stars.
