Excellent mini stereo system

This is a very good mini stereo system. The most important feature for me were the audio auxiliary inputs, which allowed me to hook up my portable satellite and mp3 player. Plus, it even has a usb port for additional plug 'n play. More importantly though, the sound is very good. I would recommend this system to anybody who wants a high end sounding system at a reasonable price.

Everything about this micro system is great, sound size, looks and feel. The only thing is that, although the USB port on the front panel is a bonus, do not expect to plug your Ipod/Zune directly in the front USB. Jump drives are the only media drives that seem to work so far. Still a great all around system.
Pros: Great Sound, Easy To Set Up, Attractive Design

excellent sound quality in a mini system

Like all the other reviews on here, this mini system is great! Very good sound quality; very easy to use--this is sort of an 'old school' design in terms of button layout--VERY simple to use. A very natural, clean and full sound. I bought this for working out in the basement and it has been great. Goes loud enough with all sorts of material--rock, classical, jazz, etc. Yes, 400 is a lot for a mini system, but, you get what you pay for!

Good Mini System

Very good small system design. CD player loads and plays near-instantly : ) plenty of power, good tuner, and the USB jack on the front is a great touch. Banana jacks for speaker wires are another nice touch, and one not often seen on a compact system. Speakers are well above average for this type of system, but are the weak point. A little tizzy on the highs and boomy on the lows, but again, better than anything else in this format in this price range. Add a set of good speakers of reasonable sensitivity and you are set.

Sound you would expect from Denon

I bought it for my daughter's bedroom. Disney never sounded so great. Well balanced rounded sound. I didn't think it would outperform my other daughter's Onkyo MC35TECH, but it does. The Onkyo is much more versatile but it doesn't have the punch the Denon has.

Cons: Limited inputs

Clear Sound
Reviewed by Juan Gomez-Tagle (Practical) from Wisconsin on Jan 08, 2009
BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
Let me begin by noting the obvious. This is a micro-system. Do not expect the sound of a larger Denon receiver and a pair of $1000 dollar speakers. Yes, you could put together a fairly priced system that would sound a lot better, however, you would have to deal with a larger receiver and larger speakers. So, with that in mind, this is a superb stereo system. It sounds much better than my other micro-system. I have a Sony system that has now moved to the game room. My two requirements were simple. Good sound, good looks. We did not want big speakers. For the money, I can not think of anything else. I did not hear any Onkyo systems, however, from many reviews, The Denon has them beat. You do not win Hi-FI mini-system of the year in Europe with out packing a punch. This guy delivered. So if you want great sound, while having something for a small to medium room, you do not want to deal with large speakers etc, and want something that is pleasing to the eye, this system is for you. I want to emphisize that the difference in sound from this to other small systems is aparent from the moment you fire it up. The sound has more depth. Listening to Dino, Sinatra and others is like you are in front of the stage with the band playing before you. Also, when you crank of up the volume, there is no distortion. The sound remains clear. I will be honest, it says that it can go up in volume to a scale of 30, yet I have never played it louder than 15. So 50% of the 30W used from this baby is way better than 75% of the 200W used from my Sony. This guy stays clear, crisp and full of depth. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. Yes, there are better speakers out there, yes there are better receivers out there, however, for my two needs, Clear Sound and Mini in size, there is no better. I forgot to mention that it is built like a tank. Feels heavy and well built. Ten times better than the Sony. The only bad that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the lack of an equallizer that would allow me to get more of the mids. I like Jazz music and sometimes the Bass can be overbearing. Not bad if you like thumping music, but for getting those mids out in front an equallizer would be usefull. Otherwise, Enjoy. Juan

This product is very nice. I purchased the brushed aluminum and wood grain speaker model. Classy look and solid construction. The sound is excellent for such a small unit. I have it set up in my family room (14x25) that is open to my kitchen (14x14)and the power is adequate. You will not be disappointed as long as you don't expect a mini system to produce concert hall sounds in big rooms!

I spend a lot of time in my kitchen, I had speakers installed in the ceiling with an old Sony tuner/receiver. This has so much more power and the sonic quality is excellant. I now have a dedicated CD player with the added PLUS of connecting USB sticks and MP3 players. My only extra would be another set of inputs, then I could hook the TV separately from the DVD player...

A wonderful bookshelf sound system

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
This micro-system is great. Beautiful aesthetics, wonderful sound... I'll run out of superlatives if I keep going. It is marketed as being "tuned for a European audience" but I found it just fine for my non-European tastes. Even audiophiles would be happy with it with the straight circuts and latest burr-brown DACS. The only thing I can possibly say that is slightly negative about it is that the hard-core may find it doesn't have enough power to drive after-market super-speakers; it does just fine with the speakers that come with it though. Good for an office or bedroom, may not have quite enough oomph for a large living room.
