This will be the second SZ for me. My first, which came with my house lasted just under 20 years. About double the normal life. Just gets the job done. Very large freezer drawer for large items and small with ice maker is a huge plus of this style of fridge. No width limitation of a frozen item...Pizza, a whole salmon, large cake..ect. Easy to organize around food types. I use Trader Joe's to back me up for a lot of quick great meals and I use about a third of the box for frozen bags from TJ. Frozen vegies and fruits another third and fish (we don't eat animals) is the last third. The upper shelf is is ice cream freezer bags for lunch boxes, garlic and basil from TJ, other smaller items. This works out great as before I go shopping I just see how the sections are doing.
SZ did not have the door storage concept in the early 90's. I have teenagers so 3-4 gallons of milk juice, wine, other taller items go up top.. the middle shelves are adjustable and I use this to make a medium and a low then the area on top of the drawers. Three drawers, one for cheese for us and the two below for veggies and fruit. Excellent control of temp means these maintain longer than you are used to.
All in all this as good as it gets and really worth the extra you hopefully can afford to pay by the life span, the utility and the resale value it gives you home.
The new one is very much the same with a few improvements. Betters drawers, air filter and a bit more room with a more compact compressor. The cleaning requirements have been reduced as well. Thankfully SZ has left this product alone. A bit quieter and doesn't run all the time as my old one did.
The flush feature looks great and is the hipster way to go at present!
