I needed a portable MP3 player for my iPod that would also play CDs. This has met all expectations so far. The nice surprise was a handle that folds neatly into the top thats not noted in the prduct description. Recommended.

I got this for my wife who wanted something simple to use for CD's. That it plays iPod tunes is a bonus, and I just happened to have an old, 1st generation iPod Touch laying around with nothing to do. The unit DOES look 80's, but that's NOT to say it looks BAD. Many "boom boxes" look positively ugly these days (2012), and this one though large, has a very understated design. The radio and the CD work well and for their intended purpose. My wife is bedridden and simply wanted something that was easy to use and that had a remote. The remote is well laid-out and functions well. The unit as a whole looks good in a living room, family room or bedroom. The only beef I have with the ZS-S4iP is that while it DOES protect the iPod and charge it, switching to "iPod" mode only allows me to play and switch between whatever songs are on the current album. There is no way to "swipe" the iPod to wake not up unless I replace the clear plastic cover for the open one, and that kind of defeats the purpose of having a cover to protect the expensive iPod Touch. That said, it works, looks good and the price was right. There are very few iPod players that will accept CD's. This is one of them. Just don't expect it to play really loud, it simply can't and don't expect too much control of an iPod Touch; that's very limited. Still I'm glad I purchased this.

If I use it even in the evening outdoors in the summer, my phone overheats bc it is enclosed. The button for the door to open the iPod dock broke off in 2 months. Used it at a party and we couldn't hear it past my patio. Very disappointed. Currently talking to Sony but they will only repair it if I pay to ship it, and I don't want something that may potentially damage my phone. [$] down the drain and only used it a few months.

If your looking for a portable music box to play am/fm radio and your iPhone music, this fits the bill. Sound is acceptable for a unit at this price. I use it in the house and outside patio. It provides good overall sound, better than most other boxes in its class. Mega bass adds a little tiny extra thump but not much. Remote is handy also has interchangeable iPod door carriage which is useful so when you dock your iPhone, you can have access to the screen or use the full window to provide extra protection for your expensive iPhone/Touch. Overall great value, just don't expect 1980s style Boombox sound...Oh yeah, plays CD's too, in case you're into that sort of thing.

Dear Folks at Sony, the ZS-iP4 has a ways to go to compete with offerings such as the Memorex i-Move Boombox and the i-Home i-P90. The features I want in the next Sony I-pod Boombox must include a larger clock screen, and the ability to set multiple alarms and wake up to my Ipod. I still use my Sony CFD-S38 - which HAS clock/alarm features -but only for cds. It would be GREAT to have a boombox which can double as an alarm clock radio ! More functionality, more uses, and more value are what I expect from Sony. Having a working remote control is also requested. I expect something awesome with great sound - please deliver the goods !

For the price, it has been an excellent product. It sounds great and works well with the iPhone--for iPod or any audio/music app running through the iPhone. It's nice to have as an alternate charger too. Some occasional conflict with the iPhone but nothing major.

This is a lightweight, easy to move player with good sound. The only odd thing is toggling between functions is a bit tricky.

As I teach Yoga & Pilates classes this gives me great sound system, easy to transport & use.

In summer we leave the desert & stay in N. Ca mtn cabin, we sure will enjoy all the music choices this offers.
