I needed something that would fit the smaller space in my 1968 home and wanted a side by side with water and ice dispenser. Though I was partial to Whirlpool since all my other appliances are the same brand including the 19 year old fridge I was replacing, I had researched several other brands to see what they offered. After comparing many, I wound up coming back to Whirlpool and almost bought the Whirlpool WRS322FDA. I went and saw one at my local Sears and found I didn't like the mechanical buttons for the control panel and how the upper portion of the freezer was used up by the icemaker which reduced the amount of storage space in the freezer. I looked some more and found this WRS342FIAB. I called Whirlpool to ask if the control panel was electronic or mechanical. They informed me it was indeed electronic. I began researching some more and noticed that compared to the WRS322FDA, this fridge had cold water that dispenses, and a bit more room in the freezer since it had the in the door removable ice bin. I decided to buy it sight unseen and give it a shot. Once I received the fridge, I was very pleased with it. So far it has done well and we enjoy it.The features I like most about this fridge are the electronic control panel, LED interior lighting that fades on, removable ice bin and the extra space in the freezer towards the top where most ice makers take up the room. Though the description or pictures don't show it, mine came with a handy can rack in the fridge door. This was a nice bonus and I use it for those 16.9 oz water bottles that the kids can grab on the go. They fit perfectly. I also like the light that illuminates the dispenser area. Initially I thought you would need to turn the light on each time you wanted to use it (in the dark) and then turn it back off. You can do that, but to my surprise, I found the light comes on automatically as soon as the paddle is depressed with your cup.Great fridge and well worth the extra money for the additional features you get over the WRS322FDA."

We are disappointed with the Whirlpool refrigerator we purchased; however, we are not venting about it we are trying to be factual. We purchased our refrigerator/freezer model WRS342FIAM in May 2013, the factory promised the seller that delivery was for June 2013, finally delivered August 2013. It is now July 2015 and it died in June 2015, 22 months after install. Cause of death: The cooling closed cycle leaks and can't be repaired. If you perform the aritmetic calculations you will find that the cost to own this machine was over six (6+) times our expected cost using the MSRP published on the Whirlpool website. We did not get a good deal.We purchased this model because we have a limited space for a refrigerator, and it was the only model available at the time that fit the space with the features we want. At this writing it is one of many models available to fit the space and on one appliance rating website Whirlpool is still listed as the most reliable model, so we are still considering the Whirlpool brand.Whirlpool has what they call a "loyalty program" wherein they offer, people like us who have suffered a loss due to their product, a price break if we purchase a replacement unit from them. That includes all of the brands Whirlpool now manufactures. If we take the Whirlpool offer on this model from their "loyalty program" with the five year extended warranty it will be less than fifty dollars less than if we buy it from one of the big box retailers and the big box five year extended warranty program covers more issues. First, the machine has not lived up to our expectations (fact). Our previous experience with refrigerators has given us expectations of at least a decade of service and up to twenty-eight years from a new machine. 22 months does not come near meeting that expectation.Second, the Whirlpool loyalty program is nearly worthless (opinion).Third: if we decide to purchase one of these again, we would buy the five year warranty and buy from the big box retailer because the warranty will be needed and the big box protection program is better than Whirlpool's.

Comments about Whirlpool White Side-By-Side Refrigerator:
Purchased September 2015 so I'm still getting used to the Side by Side and shelf arrangements. Nevertheless, I very pleased with this new refrigerator. The previous one was a 15yr old with a top freezer. This one works so much more quietly and efficiently. Much less expensive to run. Lots more convenient to access both refrigerated and freezer items. The dispenser in the door makes it so easy to get ice cubes, Cracked ice and cold water. Lots of storage flexibility with fully adjustable shelves, drawers and door storage. So far I'm very impressed.

fine for shorter refrigerator, less space?
We had few choices for a new refrigerator due to a low cabinet that it needed to fit under. Wanted a Whirlpool, as this is brand of last one which lasted 12 years. This refrig is attractive, grey on the sides, metal front. My only complaint is that it seems to have less useful space inside than my old model which had a freezer on top. Perhaps we are still getting used to the new configuration, or maybe the side by side refrig and freezer sections take up space that overhead freezers don't. I miss having a wider view of what is inside. I give it less stars for this, it is a fine refrig if you don't store a ton of food like we do.
Watch out for lemons - BUYER BEWARE

I bought this about a month ago and from day one, the doors did not fit properly. It looks like the entire cabinet is warped/torqued. Whirlpool sent someone to try to repair the alignment of the doors and he told us that they've been having a lot of problems with this model, but if customers don't complain, then Whirlpool will never address the production issue. The repair guy was instructed to rip the seal off and apply some kind of putty. Guess what? All they did was ruin the seal and the door is still warped and now it leaks cold air. They sent someone else to look at the doors and he concluded the entire unit is torqued and needs to be replaced. You would think that would be the end of the story ... No. Whirlpool is trying to decide what they should do next. I wish more people would have reported their problems with this refrigerator, I think I would have passed on this model. I still can't believe that Whirlpool ordered the repair guy to destroy the factory seal in order to "repair" our new refrigerator!

Water dispenser could be better, hard to use vs our older model. Seemed to be louder than older model we had. Like the new quick cooling feature. Not a bad model overall.

Replacing old refrigerator

my last refrigerator was Whirlpool and latest over 20 years. So I was happy to buy another. I like the side by sides. I was disappointed that the shelves were plastic not glass like my other one. But I really like the extra drawer in it for smaller things. Overall I am happy with it.

My refrigerator broke down so I had to buy a new one. I did some research and found a top freezer and a bottom freezer that I was interested in and was ranked in Consumer Reports. I took my teenage boys with me so we could physically look at each and make a decision. Both boys did not like either one, but suggested a side by side. I started over with my research and found this model. All negative reviews pretty much had to do with the water/ice dispenser, so I decided to get mine without it. The fridge was on backorder and I had to wait over two months to actually receive my fridge. Once I received and started using my new fridge, I fell in love with it. It meets my needs. I have tall boys, so they don't have to worry about bending over to get things from the bottom drawer because that's where the vegetables are and they don't eat vegetables! I do not regret buying this model and I don't think anyone else looking for a fridge would either!
