I decided to replace my 9 yr. old Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refrigerator in February vs. replacing a bad compressor. Now I wish I would have taken my chances w/ the $800 repair instead of buying the Kitchen-Aid side-by-side Architect Series II refrigerator. I am astonished at how refrigerator design & performance has gone backwards over the past 9 yrs. My Whirlpool had excellent features, ran quietly & served me well until the compressor died. The new Kitchen-Aid makes more sounds & loud noises than a high school band. It really is disturbing. The icemaker is obnoxious both in how loudly it operates & its poor performance in actually making ice - once emptied it takes 48 hrs. to refill itself. The compartments & door bins are a step backwards from the Whirlpool Gold as well. For instance, you cannot store a milk jug size container except in the upper door bins which makes no sense if you have children. Also, the interior shelves on my Whirlpool could be adjusted in 1 inch increments wheras the Kitchen-Aid only has a few possiblitiies for shelf arrangement. The icemaker dispenser makes a mess everywhere especially when using the crushed ice feature. Overall, I would rate the Kitchen-Aid as a piece of junk not worth the money, but I'm not sure what's on the market that's any better.

Comments about KitchenAid Architect Series II Black Side-By-Side Counter Depth Refrigerator:
Purchased in July 2012. In July 2016 sealed system on the freezer side completely went out. In January 2017 comma sealed system on freezer and refrigerator side has now gone out. I thought I was buying top-of-the-line apparently not. KitchenAid is sending somebody out they only have one vendor in the Indianapolis and surrounding Marion County areas. We have to wait 10 days for someone to come look at our refrigerator, and then they will likely not have the parts to fix it when they come so they'll be an additional wait. Also the rims on my refrigerator door bins are peeling and look disgusting. I keep a clean refrigerator and they tell me this is merely cosmetic. I'm a realtor and I plan to tell all my clients and colleagues my experience with KitchenAid.

Kitchen Aid standard depth side-by-side fridge, Architect

Easy to organize the refrigerator compartment. Crisper works well. Only issue we have noticed is that the ice maker is somewhat noisy. We are used to the noises, but guests do notice the strange noises coming from the ice maker.

Beautiful, modern simple, clean ++
Bought this to replace a KitchenAid side by side that was 21 years old and still running perfectly! I am even happier with this new one! It has classicly modern clean lines and the stainless steel is easy to keep clean with no special effort. The inside lighting is lovely. Great storage.

I love our refrigerator! We've had it for about 8 months or so. It's spacious! I love the tech features like the measured water dispenser. I use that every day. The shelving is sturdy, too!

Worst Refrigerator... Do Not Buy!!!
from New Lenox, IL
To let you know I am a review monster and had I read the reviews about this refrigerator I would not have bought it. With that being said I bought all NEW Kitchenaid appliance roughly two years ago and three days ago the ice maker stopped working on my refrigerator. All I did was replace the water filter and the ice maker stopped working, I couldn't believe it but after reading the reviews I learned my fate. Several reviews explain this exact same scenario not sure why, but got on the phone with Kitchenaid representative to try and solve the problem. The Kitchenaid representative gave me two options... Pay for a technician $90 service fee plus parts, or pay $359 for a one year warranty/service. I of course got EXTREMELY UPSET and ask for a supervisor. He also reiterated what the representative said to me, which I began to read the reviews to him off KITCHENAID WEBSITE because he told me there were no recalls/call backs for this product. He told me the technician for my refrigerator do not say there are any problems, which I told him his technicians should read the reviews because they tell a whole different story. Clearly and without a doubt this refrigerator has issues which Kitchenaid will not stand by!!! The best I got out of them was the parts to fix the refrigerator but I still have to pay for the technician. Kitchenaid is by far the WORST big name manufacture and I will continue tell my story to whoever ask. I hope after reading this you do not make the decision I made.

Starting to have trouble with the ice maker
from Dade City, Florida
I am a bit disappointed as I purchased the product on 11/12/2016 and already have had two service call and it is only 12/6/2016. One call was because the water filter was leaking inside the fridge and now the ice maker isn't working. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
Broke in 2 years
from Marlborough, MA
We had the fridge a bit over 2 years now, it stopped working and was not cooling anymore. First we called the extended warranty guys to come out (Warrentech) and waited 1 week, they figured it's the sealed system which is covered under Manufacturer warranty. Then we called Whirlpool service, after 1 week they came and added a dye to see if there is a leak, they could not find anything and left and then came back for a second time after one more week. Replaced compressor and a few valves. Fridge worked for a week and then stopped working. We wasted alot of time, food lost due to improper cooling and so far stuck in a limbo with KA to decide how to proceed. I agree sometimes things break or defective, but what I don't like is the protocol and red tape we have to go through to get a replacement fridge.
Poor quality Refrigerator barely made it out of warranty
By bill T
from auburn CA
I bought this refrigerator 1.5 yrs ago.(safely out of warranty for KitchenAid) It completely failed and I have to replace. This is the first KitchenAid-Whirlpool refrigerator I have ever purchased. All other refrigerators I have owned lasted at least 10-11 years. Most longer. After reading other reviews, there seems to be a consistent quality issue with this product.Lost cooling in the freezer. Ice in Ice maker melted and leaked all over hardwood floor.
