Canon Black 21.1 Megapixel EOS Digital SLR Camera Body - EOS5DMARKIIBODY

High Performance for High Expectation
Canon's update to the wildly popular full frame EOS 5D is here, and it's better than ever. The EOS 5D Mark II has a stunning 21.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor, a vast ISO Range of 100-6400 (expandable to ISO L: 50, H1: 12800 and H2: 25600), plus EOS technologies like Auto Lighting Optimizer and Peripheral Illumination Correction. It supports Live View shooting, Live View HD videos, and more. It can shoot up to 3.9 fps, has 9 AF points plus 6 AF assist points, a new 98% coverage viewfinder, a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots/VGA) and a rugged build. Full-frame shooters rejoice!

Highest ISO Range to Date.
21.1 Megapixel Full-frame CMOS sensor, 14-bit A/D conversion (16,384 colors/each of 3 primary color), wide range ISO setting of 100-6400 (expandable L: 50, H1: 12800 and H2: 25600).

The EOS 5D Mark II features a huge, full-frame sensor. A 21.1-megapixel CMOS sensor delivers images of up to 5616 x 3744 pixels. And since it is full-frame, all lenses will deliver the angle of view they would on a 35mm camera without a conversion factor. This comes in handy especially when shooting with wide-angle lenses. For the flexibility to shoot in even the most dimly lit situations, the EOS 5D Mark II offers Canon's highest ISO sensitivity to date, ranging from 100-6400 (expandable to ISO L: 50, H1: 12800 and H2: 25600). Thanks to improved noise reduction technologies, images shot even at highest sensitivity will be remarkably smooth.

HD Video Shooting with Live View Function.
Full HD Video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution for up to 4GB per clip with HDMI output for HD viewing of stills and video.

The EOS 5D Mark II is the first digital EOS to offer recording of Full HD video in Live View Mode. Capable of shooting clips almost half an hour long at full 1080 resolution, the EOS 5D Mark II does amazing double duty, making it possible to shoot broadcast quality video on your camera by simply changing settings. The advantages move way beyond the ability to shoot on your SLR - the wealth of high-speed lenses and shooting accessories that make EOS photography so remarkable can be used in shooting video. Where interchangeable lens video cameras cost thousands of dollars, with the EOS 5D Mark II their operation, including HDMI output, is simply an added bonus to a remarkable camera.

State-of-the-Art Image Processing with Power and Speed.
Next generation DIGIC 4 Image Processor for faster processing of fine detail and color reproduction as well as reduced image noise.

The EOS 5D Mark II's sensor is backed up by Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor, which speeds up all operations making a number of new features possible. Processor intensive operations like Face Detection Live mode, HD video recording and lighting and lens peripheral optimization are all possible thanks to the DIGIC 4 Image Processor. The EOS 5D Mark II also offers full 14-bit A/D conversion. The analog output from the image sensor is converted into a digital signal via 14-bit conversion instead of the previously used 12-bit conversion, resulting in significantly finer tonal gradation for better prints.

DIGIC 4 Image Processor
Developed to maximize performance between capturing and recording stages of digital photography, Canon's DIGIC 4 chips use advanced signal processing technologies to enhance captures from Canon's CMOS sensors. Sophisticated processing algorithms help to speed up all operations, including write times to UDMA cards.

Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction
Canon's exclusive Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction takes into account any light falloff in the corners of the frame and corrects it, making for a perfectly exposed image. Correction data are detected automatically on a number of Canon lenses and can be entered manually through included Canon EOS Utility software.

Cutting-Edge Autofocus.
High performance with 3.9 fps continuous shooting, new shutter with a durability of 150,000 cycles and improved weather-resistant body.

The EOS 5D Mark II has a sophisticated AF system consisting of 9 user-selectable AF points, along with a total of 6 additional vertical and horizontal AF assist points. The central AF point is cross-type, and is sensitive to vertical lines at an aperture of f/2.8, horizontal lines at f/5.6. The AF system is also sensitive to its light source, and can compensate for focus errors that can occur when multiple sources illuminate a scene. AF points can be chosen by the photographer using the 5D's multi-controller or preferred control dial. Plus, the EOS 5D features a dedicated AF ON button.

The EOS 5D Mark II has a rugged new shutter designed to withstand 150,000 exposures. Combined with its impressive build quality, this new shutter ensures that the EOS 5D Mark II will thrive in challenging shooting environments.

More Features in Live View Mode.
Live View Function for stills (Quick, Live and Face Detection AF modes) and video.

With Live View Function on the EOS 5D Mark II, you can zoom in and navigate the composition 5x or 10x normal size. There's even a grid overlay. Live View focusing modes include Quick mode, Live mode and Face Detection Live mode. The EOS 5D Mark II's Live View Function also makes videos in Full High-Definition. Shooting is at a frame rate of 30 fps. Sound is recorded either through the camera's built-in microphone or through an external microphone connected to the camera's microphone input terminal. Playback modes are available in the camera, and all Live View AF features can be used in shooting video.

Huge, High Resolution Screen.
3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots/VGA) monitor with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coatings for improved viewing and smudge protection.

The EOS 5D Mark II has an all-new 3.0-inch Clear View LCD that features high-resolution 920,000 dots/VGA for far more detail than any previous EOS Digital LCD. A number of new features enhance usability: a new anti-reflection and water-repellant coating provides a clearer and more smudge-resistant surface and a light sensor mounted below the screen enables automatic brightness adjustment in accordance with ambient light.

Full-Frame, Dust-Free Images.
Updated EOS Integrated Cleaning System specifically designed to work with a full-frame sensor.

Canon's Integrated Cleaning system includes a cleaning unit designed specifically for the EOS 5D Mark II's full-frame CMOS sensor. The camera's low-pass filter even has a new fluorine coating upon its surface to help repel dust. Dust that makes it past the EOS 5D Mark II's sensor cleaning system is easily removed in post processing using DPP software's Dust Detection Delete function, which can remove dust spots automatically from single or multiple image files.

Self Cleaning Sensor Unit
A key element of minimizing dust is preventing it from clinging to the front surface of the imaging sensor. To combat against this, the EOS 5D Mark II features a Canon-designed Self Cleaning Sensor Unit. The low-pass filter at the front of the sensor shakes off dust automatically with ultrasonic vibrations. The EOS 5D Mark II also has a coating on the front surface of the low-pass filter to increase its resistance to dust sticking to the sensor.

Dust Delete Data Detection
Dust that may still remain on the front of the sensor can also be erased with software included in Digital Photo Professional (DPP) Version 3.3 or later software. A simple test shot of a plain, white object can be taken, using a menu setting. This Dust Delete Data image is analyzed in-camera, and the location and size of any remaining dust is subtracted from any subsequent pictures taken. This data is transmitted along with the image, whether JPEG or RAW, and can be either manually or automatically erased in Canon's DPP software. This added software option ensures the cleanest possible image, perfect for printing or archiving.

Would have been willing to pay another 30% in price for true '1D-style' pro focus, weather-proof body, a LOT MORE control of auto-ISO and a LOT MORE control of video exposure, one more stop of noise performance, (maybe via 30% less pixels). Hoping for some firmware improvements in auto iso control, video setting control, feature additions and noise performance. Canon's WONDERFUL lenses are well worth the price and deserve a better pro-sumer body. The micro adjust focus-calibration feature is wonderful. I used to send lenses in for focus adjustment - or for one last check under warranty. But the quality on them is so good now that I no longer worry. I did not even consider sending the last two 'L' lenses for check/calibration - this was partly avoided by my ability to verify on the 50D and 1DmkIII. All but the last two (of 10) lenses were adjusted or checked by Canon. On the 1DmkIII they all were within 0-3 clicks. The new 5D2 body arrived adjusted dead-on-accurate, so all the lenses except 2 were at ZERO adjustment. So my 50D, 5D2 and 1DmkIII are no more than a FEW CLICKS variance for 10 lenses and 3 recent bodies - plus the 20D. This system works. - Great to have an affordable full frame camera - VERY nice LCD - a bit noisy shutter (maybe unavoidable by design?) - Battery has reasonable / good life - really needed a better (pro) focus system - even on a pro-sumer level camera. Needed a better spread of focus points...and more of them. - Nice to have video - it looks great. But the control NEEDS to be 'opened up' in the next firmware release. This would be received with rave reviews by the current owners and spur new sales - and even hold the street price firmer - much like the 'joystick' addition via firmware on the 1DmkIII. It needs to be possible to not have blurry-hand movements in video - due to shutter speed being set so low by the camera defaults. More control would be VERY welcome. Complete manual setting control on video (and auto ISO) would be headline news in the Canon community. - 21 megapixels is/was likely too much for this camera. Noise performance would have been a preferred CHOICE - not more pixels. - Banding begins near iso=3200 AND strange matrix-shaped-noise-interference starts near iso=200 in shadows (hoping for some improvement via firmware soon) - I have noticed no 'dots' - Auto ISO needs A LOT MORE control on parameters. - We still have loose / creaky battery doors - like the 20D. Well, I love the camera. Some of my honest comments / criticisms (also shared by MANY in my Canon user community) can be addressed in firmware. Some were price/design decisions which must remain. I think the amazing quality photographs that can be produced, for example, using the 70-200mm f4 I.S., 135mm f2, 85mm f1.2 or the 35 f1.4 lenses - cannot be challenged by any competitor. It keeps me shooting Canon. My hopes are STILL focused on a SMALL-BODY 1D-level pro camera built upon the 1D and 5D2 technologies - maybe in early 2009? I am sure I will own one.

I am a Pro Photographer, and Videographer too, that is why I mention Movie mode so many times. It was one of the main reasons why I wanted this camera, along with its High Resolution stills capability (21MP). COMMENTS (Cons before, Pros later): - My rating is not as high as it would be if the camera had full Manual settings in movie mode, as I expected when it was announced. OTHERWISE I would rate it with 4 stars. -- The most exciting feature is the most frustrating one: Full HD Movie mode is not professionally implemented. It has NOT EVEN 1 (one) manual setting possible... Everything in Movie mode is automatically set by the camera. Even when the camera's whitepaper tells it provides amazing depth of field (and that is clearly aimed to Videographers), you can HARDLY achieve it -narrow depth of field- The Only way is to workaround with tricks that not always bring what you need or want, and some are not safe, or even need another manufacturer's lens It also has no "Movie mode" direct access or Button. You have to activate LiveView and browse some menus to enable Movie mode. It has all the potential to be used Professionally, but it does NOT offer you (so far) the option to set ANYTHING manually (as professionals or serious amateurs Videographers Require). The camera can be used Professionally for stills, but really hard to use it that way for Videography work. It's a pitty and waste of potential packed inside, waiting to be delivered. -- Besides the Movie mode: Burst Rate is not very fast, AF points are not so many as we expected in this 5D "upgrade". -- Bracketing mode allows too few shots. It should (must) allow more shots. -- It has no self-mapping feature (to map hot or defective pixels). So far, almost no camera has that feature, but it's so handy and important (and would also save tech service lot of money) -- A LCD display protector can not be attached (there is no border to snap it)... nor any accesory related to it -- The resolution is VERY High, and that is GREAT. You will need Good lenses to get the results you can achieve with this camera. -- Noise level (for such high resolution) is GREAT, and not a problem (unless you need to shoot at very high ISOs) -- Canon is ALWAYS INNOVATING, I love that. And its service great too (at least my experience). They also listen to suggestions, not many companies do that. -- I like the top Mode dial a lot, easy accessible and very fast to use with just one move (and one hand) -- I like the LCD resolution and high quality too. Although I would prefer it to be 3.5" -- Good construction quality, but not "superior" quality. -- I still do not like the directional controller in EOS cameras, I would prefer much more to have it "inside" the rear dial (like some Canon PowerShot, or other brands have it) Would be faster to use, and more handy. -- CHECK well the camera when you buy it, if a hot pixel appears on Movie clips, I (if I was you) would return it and request another brand new copy. Hot pixels can not be remapped (hidden) in Movie clips. -- OVERALL is a VERY GOOD camera, at a reasonable price (if I skip the movie mode feature). --- SEVERAL features can be implemented or improved by Firmware update (Bracketing, MANUAL Settings for Movie mode, etc.). I hope Canon DO it, and soon. This camera COULD be much Greater, and a competitors "killer" (in that camera segment), it has all the potential inside...

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Mark II Black 21.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body:

This camera is great in just about every way , there are a few things i would change , the 9 point AF , im not sure why in the world there is only a 9 point AF system in the 5d mark II , this camera deserves so much better , the other small thing is low light shooting , it is ok , but a lot of noise past 1600iso , other than that , depending on your lens and i recommend using a tripod unless your very stable , you get super sharp images , and the camera just feels great , yeah a little heavy and bigger than your beginner dslr , you feel like your holding a great piece of equipment , im upgrading to the 5d mark III for the extra's , but i shoot professional portraits , and i need the extra things the mark III has , if your coming from a rebel or other amateur camera , start with the mark II , get to know the camera , and see if you need the extra stuff on the mark III if you dont the mark II works great

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Mark II Black 21.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body:

This camera is excellent. I got this camera in the summer of 2012 as my first "big" purchase after graduating college. This camera is amazing and is everything that I hoped it to be, now I just need to get some better lenses to really put the camera to its true power. Terrific with a very high ISO, obviously it still gets a little grainy, but not NEAR as bad as some cameras. I would recogmend this to a lot of people. Only down fall is that I have not upgraded Photoshop on my computer in a while and still have CS3 and camera Raw does NOT work with the 5D mark II. Kind of frustrating because I thought I did a lot of research, but no where did I find this information. But still a great camera.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Mark II Black 21.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body:

Coming from the 30D,40D,7D and the 5D Mark II this new body exuberates updated features that make it a must have for an enthusiast as well as a pro. It captures very nice high detailed photographs using a much more advanced AF system that works very well. If your not getting clear photographs (your doing something wrong) its that simple. I can tell a HUGE difference in the level of detail that it captures compared to the 5D Mark II. Not to discredit the the Mark II at all. One of the only things that drive me nuts about this camera is the zoom buttons are different then previous models for looking at a photograph on the LCD. With as mutch technology built into this model you should be able to assign the old buttons to this function. The new shutter sound is powerful and responsive not klunky..Currently using two bodies the 7D and the 5D Mark III.

I've wanted a 5D MKII for years as I have always looked at it as the gold standard for affordable DSLRs. When the MK3 came out the price finaly came down on the MK2 and I was able to afford it. I bought the MK2 about two months ago and LOVE IT. The image quality is incredible and I have been able to do things with it I could not do with my 50D or 7D. I am completely satisfied with the MK2 and it takes photos as good or better than I am capable of producing.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Mark II Black 21.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body:

My 35mm SLR disappeared twenty years ago and, not able to afford another one, I have made do with point-and-shoot digital cameras. They enable me to take snapshots but are limited in what they can do. I yearned for a good DSLR. After researching various makes and models I decided on the Canon EOS 5D Mk II. There is are major differences between a SLR and a DSLR, I immediately discovered. I had a lot of learning to do â€" and am still learning. The manual that comes with the camera is really good. It takes a bit of digesting and practice with the camera, but is much better than the manuals that came with 35mm cameras. I purchased a Canon zoom lens to go with my camera and, as time and funds allow, will add some prime lenses to my kit. I am using the camera for portraits and macro photography at the moment. I expect to add architectural and street photography in the coming months. I like the large sensor (21 mp) which gives clear and brightly colored photos. I find the clarity and brilliance of the photos I have taken absolutely amazing. The camera is a bit heavy, compared to my SLRs, and that is taking some getting used to. It is solid and has a nice feel to it, and is comfortable to hold. I bought this entry-level professional camera because I wanted to be able to have control over the pictures I take. I bought it sight-unseen and with little knowledge of DSLRs, although I did speak to some Canon camera users about it. It does every thing I wanted in a camera and then some. I am supremely pleased with my purchase.

I have wanted this camera for a very long time now. I finally decided to upgrade from a Canon EOS Rebel XT. From the very 1st picture i took i could see the quality that this camera and lens has. Oh .. i bought the EOS 5D Mark II with a lens kit, The EF 24-105 L IS USM. This is a perfect match. My photos come out so nice. I am not a professional photographer, I just take pictures for my own enjoyment and hobbie, But i find myself taking my camera along almost every where i go now. This camera is so easy to use, even a total amature could use this. The Menu is easy to navigate, adjustments are at the touch of your fingers, and even though it is bigger then my EOS Rebel XT it is no problem caring it around when i go places. Canon supplies a software called Digital Photo Professional with the camera. This software is so easy to process raw photos. Sometimes a photo needs just a little tweeking to make it a perfect picture. The Battery is outstanding. Lasts me a long time. Not like my old camera which i had to be sure to carry a spare with me all the time. This one i have no trouble with the batty draining or running out of juice, How ever i do have a spare just in case. I can't get into all the tech terms since i am not a professional at all. All i know is if you are looking for a professional grade camera and want some outstanding pictures you will not be disappointed in the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I am sure i will have and be using this camera for many years to come. Thank you canon for putting out such a high quality camera that is affordable to buy. I can not express how much i love this camera. I would rather loose a limb then loose my camera LOL.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Mark II Black 21.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body:

I have had this camera for 9 months and at first it was great, sharp images and focusing was right on and got 80 to 85% good images but after 4 months, I started having focusing problems and it has gotten worse with each use. Lenses were calibrated and did all the usual checks but no matter what I did the AF focus continually gave soft or blurred shots. Didn't matter if it was AI servo or One Shot, photos came out very soft or out of focus. Even though it would tell me it was focused and took extra time to make sure, the image still came out soft or what I was focused on was blurred or soft but a different area of the image was sharp. It does a lot of back focusing I did a wedding last week and took over 600 pictures, did not even get 10% of the images as good quality, the rest although shot in raw were useless. I have read and talked to several professions about the cause and all say the AF focus has issues, well I can attest to that. I did sooo much better with my 40D and did not have this problem at all and I have the same L lens. This is the 2nd time I have taken it in for repair and I have to say although I like the camera in every other respect it's useless for me as a photographer if I can't get the majority of my images to be focused and sharp. Until Canon fixes this issue I would not recommend this camera to anyone. I think the 7D would be much better and less costly. I will be looking very closely at the 5D mark III which their AF system is apparently suppose to be much much better. I will see how it does when I get it back from repair from Canon. For the price I paid for this camera it should have a professional AF system. You can't use the outside AF points, they are useless and the Center AF point does a very nominal job after a few months of use. And only 9 AF points close together is an issue also. Until they address this issue, I would not recommend this the 5D Mark II.
