We purchased this GE cooktop (and several other GE Monogram appliances) when we remodeled our kitchen last fall. The cooktop works great (we use propane) and we really like its appearance. The only thing we would change would be to substitute 2 smaller burners for two of the larger burners. Sometimes small pots heat more on the sides rather than the bottom with these large burners and this unit has 6 large burners. It wasn't clear from the maintenance instructions what is the best method (and cleaner) to use to clean cooking debris from the cast grates and burner covers. We have tried to use gentle cleaners and methods but are noticing some discoloration forming on these parts.

I expected a high end cooktop. This is not. The knob has a 270 degree rotation but for more than 50% of the rotation...nothing happens to the flame. Lack of controlability. Also...the diameter of the flame is very large...there is no option on this cooktop to have a smaller diameter flame for smaller pots. Heating is very poor on smaller pots and pans. Had to go out and buy new pots.

Comments about Monogram 36" Stainless Steel Professional Gas Rangetop:
6 weeks using this and really enjoy it. Replaced a 10 year old Bertazzoni in a granite counter top - both 36", but had to modify counter-top slightly to accommodate new unit
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Best Appliance in my Kitchen

I never thought cooking could be so much fun! I had a high end gas range before, but this range top is like going from a VW to a Rolls Royce. No more moving pots arround the top to go from boil to simmer, and cooking with my wok is easy and actually works with the heat this range top can generate. And the best part, I can get exactly the right temperature I want. Cooking something as simple as scrambled eggs - slowly and evenly - is a whole new experience on this range top, and clean up is the easiest I've ever experienced on a gas cooking surface. I could go on, but this is definitely the best appliance I have in my pro kitchen!!!

Great features and appearance

Love the Monogram product. Little disappointed with starting, it just clicks at times and have to start with a match. Other than that the features are great.

I've been using for a few months. I LOVE that I can fit several bit pots on at once. The burners are strong and even and cook quickly. My only issue is that on simmer the burners emit a weird chemically smell. GE said this was likely a gas flow problem. The Gas Co came and checked the flow and said it is fine. The Gas Co said the problem is the way the low flame hits the flame spreader, creating a sooty residue that leaves a smell. I have not yet gone back to GE with these results.
