I *love* this camera. I've had it for over 3 years and got it when I decided I wanted nicer pictures, and more control over those pictures - but at the same time didn't really want to go through the hassle of learning and the cost of getting a DSLR. Before getting this camera I found that every year I felt like I wanted a newer or better camera, and I've yet to feel the urge to replace this one. People are constantly asking me what kind of camera I use, and I am always more than happy to tell them and then to point them to the newer available models. Oh and battery life - mine is awesome. I use it for long periods of time all the time and I so rarely have to charge the battery that I often forget to when it actually does die. The one con I can think of - it is really hard to get good pictures using the flash. They almost always turn out just eh.

Exceptional Build and Speed
from San Diego, California
The Nikon D300 is rock solid, very responsive, and provides a "DX" format 50% extra focal length reach when needed. When used with a Nikon MB-D10 vertical battery grip and Nikon EN-EL4a battery, the camera executes eight frames per second for demanding action situations. The six photos below were taken with the Nikon 18-300mm DX zoom lens at eight frames per second. This equipment combination of reliability, speed, and extreme focal length (450mm equivalent) is exactly what is needed when photographing Mexican folk dancing.
Great features in small body
It is Amazing! The Nikon P90 takes lovely pictures

A major workhorse
from McCleary, WA 98557, USA
This D300 has been the best camera I have ever owned. It has been all around the world with us and it is still going strong. I have well over 500,000 to a 1,000,000 photos taken with this camera and it's still working great. Just purchased a D7100 but because of the Compact Flash Card the D300 is still much faster with the same quality!
5 years of excellent family and travel pictures
from Southern, IL, USA
Bought the D300 (my first digital DSLR) in December 2008. Europe travel and family pictures have always been excellent; don't own nor use Photoshop or any equivalent--the D300 does it all.
the worst camenra
If I could I would have give 0 stars. Complete waist of money, and wasnt cheap. I would not had accepted even for free this camera. Awaful pictures, I have it for 4-5 of years now. I am using EVERYsingle setting just to take one single normal picture for the same spot and still rubbish. either yellow or burned, really poor quality. Such a shame for Nikon. I wander, have they even try to take couple of shots before they release it in the market?

Great product for the price
from Cypress, TX 77429, USA
I started out with a Nikon film camera, totally manual. The I got a D3000 camera, then a D5000, then a D7000 and aD300. The D300 has gotten me back to manual more or the Aperture mode. Now I get better photos. I real like this camera and would recommend it.
Mountains and Matisse
This is a truly wonderful camera! I have captured eagles in flight, the majesty of Mt. Denali (McKinley), the semi darkness of the blue grotto and pictures of paintings by great artists. The technology of the camera is very intuitive. The manual settings are very useful even for a relative novice like me. Shutter speed is very good. Battery life is excellent (but I do carry an extra battery "just in case").
