Worth every penny. I had a traditional Samsung DVD player /recorder that has worked flawlessly for the last 3 years but the upgrade to Blu-ray is just stunning. Even no Blu-ray discs play so much better.

At first the DVD player was not working so I unplugged it and plugged it back in to reset it. Now it works great. On-line response is excellent. The picture quality is also amazing.
Disappointed
By Mom in Evanston from Evanston, IL on 12/27/2009.

Playing Blue Ray discs have been great & we have been loving Pandora. The BIG problem is that some regular dvds work fine and others have those annoying squares. I called Samsung Customer Service and the rep kept putting me on hold as if she had no clue what to do and finally suggested a firmware update, which was not the problem. My firmware is current. She suggested I ship it back for service. When a product is not even 3 weeks out of box I don't expect to send it back in! I checked non-Abt reviews and found out I was not alone.

Was disappointed that I could not play full length video "channels" from Youtube, but think that it's because they redirect you to other sites.Have AT&T DLS and must have filter on line to function correctly - we found out the hard way[...] :)We are using it wirelessly and it has worked very well - no additional wiring required!

We cancelled cable and purchased this to use with Netflix. The picture and sound are great with our HDTV. We use the wireless feature and never have a problem with connecting to the internet. Shows are never choppy and only buffer at the beginning and the buffer time is short. Bottom line-wireless dongle works efficiently!

The speed of loading and connection/interface to WiFi enabled streaming is super easy and quick. We have Netflix, and enjoy the You Tube interface as well. Pandora and Blockbuster are also available. This player is far superior to our prior player. Absolutely thrilled with this product and would recommend highly.

My setup is using HDMI to the TV (a Samsung 61" LED/DLP) and fiber optic to the receiver (a Pioneer 7.1 capable receiver with 5.1 speakers). Plugged the power in, Plugged the HDMI to both the TV and this player, plugged the fiber optic in to both this player and the receiver. Plugged the wireless adapter (included with player) into the back USB port. Turned this unit on and the TV came on as well with the correct input selected - nice. Put a blu-ray disc in and in moments we were watching truly 1080p high def. Later, I went into setup and it was easy and quick to get this player talking to my wireless network. The network was discovered automatically - all I had to do was enter the WEP key. All blu-ray and DVD discs we have played thus far loaded quickly with no real delay and have played with an incredible picture. Pandora, though this is not a review of this free feature, also configured easily and the sound is great. We have not used the Netflix option. The sleek black rounded design complements all my other components. The buttons on top are okay - most operation is done from remote. You would not be able to stack another component on top but a nick-knack could be placed on top without any issue. We have had this player about a month with no issues.

The upgrading of other DVDs alone is useful, but having streaming netflix and music is awesome as well. You never know the power of bluray until you leave the room and see another tv without it! ;)
Beware if you want to stream video to it
By Complainer from Naperville on 09/9/2009.
Pros: Easy Set-Up
Best Uses: Home Theater
Describe Yourself: Power User
I bought this so that I can stream home video from my PC to my 61 inch HDTV. Unfortunately, the codec does not support playing videos from my non-HD DV camcorder even though it's uncompressed AVI. It also doesn't play HD movie clips from my Canon SD 780 IS which is 1280x720 HD in .mov format. Converting from .mov to .avi doesn't matter. According to the manual, only 1920x1080 video for streaming is supported! Come on. The other thing I don't like is the front display. It only shows the time elapsed. No track info at all. Sucks when playing music CDs. Other than these, I like the player.
Everything works

Pros: Netflix Internet Movies, DVD Upconversion, Good Soundtrack Support, Upgradeable, Backwards Compatible, Excellent Image Quality, Good Connections, Easy Set-Up, Pandora Internet Radio
Best Uses: Pandora Radio, Netflix Instant Movies, Home Theater
Cons: Poor non-DVD interface
Plugged everything in, but had to fool around with the USB wireless connection to get it to be recognized hardware. Filled in all net information and connected. My only complaint is that you need the TV on for everything you do. I was expecting to plug in a USB flash drive of music and hit the play button. Not even close. You need to maneuver quite a bit to get there. Why not use the front panel screen to allow me to choose USB audio or Network audio? Thus minus a star.

Nice picture and sound but the difference between blue ray and standard DVDs is negligable at best. I bought this unit for the Netflix and Pandora streaming and they are both outstanding features on this machine. Don't waste your money on blue ray disc purchases. Renting is the way to go.

By Sherm from Mobile, AL on 05/25/2009.
Pros: Easy To Use, High Quality Picture

Cons: Inconsistent at first
This is my first Blue Ray player. My only compairson is my old Toshiba dvd player (a good player). Generally speaking the picture on Blue Ray is great on our new 55" Samsung UN55B7000! Load times are normally not too long in my opinion. The Netflix streaming feature works pretty good, much better than I expected based on what we had seen when doing this on a PC. Picture quality is usually quite good approaching Blue Ray, although, with quick panning of the camera some jerkiness is sometimes noted. We have watched three movies this way. Scanning backwards and forward is clunky on Netflix too but at least you can do it. The Pandora music service is a nice freebe. When we first got the unit we had a lot of trouble with freeze-ups that often required turning the unit off and on (occured during DVD, Blue Ray, Netflix and Pandora). The player and the TV communicate back and forth so I wondered if my $7 HDMI cable might have something to do with it. I upgraded to a $10 cable and these problems were greatly reduced. I've since got a $12 cable that is RoHS compliant (whatever that is) and am seeing how that works. Lately we have not had any problems. My only complaints on the design are the buttons on the top of the unit should illuminate and the remote should have dedicated buttons for zoom and slow mo like my old Toshiba did.
Samsung Blue Ray Players Rock!

Cons: Inconsistent

I love Netflix and I really enjoy the instant downloads you can get with this product. The system is very easy to setup and I got it going in about five minutes. Some issues I had. The first unit acted really strange and kept ejecting and powering off at random. The replacement unit was great and ABT exchanged it without any issues. Also, be aware that the adapter for WI Fi is not included in the [$]model. You must buy that for an additonal [$].

An excellent addition to my A/V setup
By DaveE from Palo Alto, CA on 05/13/2009.
Describe Yourself: Enthusiast
Pros: High Quality Picture, Easy To Use
Best Uses: Home Theater
Cons: Wireless to an AirPort
Excellent Blu-Ray player: quick to load, haven't experienced a disk skipping error yet and the remote is logical enough for me. Streaming Netflix is a nice addition. My wife, who had no knowledge of Pandora music box prior to the purchase of the Samsung, loves the feature. The hard part was connecting the unit to my Apple AirPort Extreme Wireless station. There are a couple of websites out there that provide some pointers, but you'd be clueless without searching for advice. The only other gripe is that the unit doesn't have a coax RCA output. You'll have to settle for the inferior Toslink output, and buy a converter box to convert Toslink to AES/EBU if you run your video to a DAC. I'm probably one of the few whose audio equipment far surpasses my video equipment.
Great Blu-ray player

Pros: Easy To Use, Easy To Set Up, High Quality Picture
Describe Yourself: Enthusiast
Best Uses: Home
I was so happy with my first purchase that I bought a second 3600 for my bedroom. As it was with the first, it was easy to set up. A little slow in up loading DVDs but certainly worth the wait (about 20 seconds). A small draw back is that sometimes during the movie there is a split second that the screen freezes.
Simply Awesome!

Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use, Consistent Performance, High Quality Picture
Describe Yourself: Enthusiast
Best Uses: Home
This is my first blu-ray player. I did my due diligence and decided on this unit becuase of the stellar reviews on picture quality and fast loading times. Actual performance has confirmed the reviews. The deciding factor was that it has one of the highest ratings for standard DVD's and since that's most of my collection I wanted optimum picture from those DVD's. It also does a much better job of upconverting those standard DVD's than the Panasonic upconvert unit I replaced this with. The picture is simply awesome, the unit looks amazing, and it was so easy to set up. You will not be disappointed.
Good player with WiFi for Netflix

Pros: Attractive Design, Easy To Use, High Quality Picture, Easy To Set Up, Consistent Performance
Best Uses: Bedroom, Home
Describe Yourself: Casual User
I am completely happy with the 3600, but I wish the user's manual had been more helpful in the setup for WiFi/PC router connectivity. After struggling to get it to connect, I was about to return it until I discovered how to specify an access point manually. No help from manual or Samsung tech support.

By Dann from San Mateo on 04/20/2009.
Pros: Consistent Performance, Easy To Set Up, High Quality Picture, Compact
Cons: Difficult To Set Up
Best Uses: Home Theater
Describe Yourself: Power User
The wireless was took a little time to set up and wasn't quite as seamless as I hoped it would be. This will only work with a N or N+. The picture and sound quality is great and it's much quicker than my older (and much more expensive) Samsung BDPU5000 (which has now been relegated to bedroom duty.)
Finally a solid product!
By Joey from Louisiana on 04/20/2009.
Pros: Consistent Performance, Durable, Easy To Use, Easy To Set Up, High Quality Picture
Describe Yourself: Enthusiast
Best Uses: Home Theater
Pros Super fast wifi, pandora, netflix, excellent upscale for regular Dvds, dynamite blu ray play, great options for connecting hardware, sound is outstanding, crisp and clean. The design also fits perfectly with the samsung line of products. Cons Player feels a little delicate, top side button placement is odd, but a non issue with a remote, occasionally you have to reset your wifi connection when you close out, but nothing to lose sleep over. Summary It is clear that for 2009 and into the forseeable future, everyone will want a Blu Ray Player with wifi because it just makes life so easy. The Samsung is the first out to market, and it is feature rich and plays sound and video like a champ. The Dark Knight looked amazing and well. I would also recommend using a Samsung television with it if possible, the sync is a great feature, and once you have the perfect universal remote, your good to go!!! Great job Samsung!!
Have bought this product twice.

First bought this BluRay to compliment a Samsung 46 inch LCD and found that it was easy to set up and that both products "talked" to each other. I bought the same blu ray player for second LCD since I was so happy with the results. Best feature is that old DVDs play as if they are Blu Ray DVDs. Looking forward to setting up Netflix and Pandora features. Great product.
