I have this Onkyo receiver hooked up to a new Panasonic Blu-Ray player via HDMI connection. The Panasonic Blu-Ray player is connected via HDMI to a new 46" Samsung LED HDTV. I also have an optical cable connecting the HDTV directly to the optical input on the Onkyo receiver, so I can listen to TV programming in surround sound. The Samsung TVs are notorious for not having a very powerful speaker system and are placed in the rear of the TV. I have the Onkyo 5.1 channel home theatre receiver setup with two front, a center, a subwoofer and two rear surround speakers. It works better than I thought after I hooked it up. I really like the Audyssey auto setup feature and the ability for it to sense the type of sound coming from your source input. It knows the type of sound the DVD or Blu-Ray was recorded and make the appropriate selection. The all-stereo feature works great if you want all the speakers to have the same volume output. I also have this receiver connected via component cables to a 300 disk CD player and works flawlessly. Again you can program the CD button to play the type of sound you wish to hear.This receiver is replacing another Onkyo Receiver that I used for the past 12 years and has never had a problem, which is why I also choose to stick with Onkyo. When I upgraded to my new LED HDTV, I wanted the best quality sound and picture, so wanted to get away from component cables and go with HDMI. This was exactly what I was looking for.I find the remote easy to use, no issues.For the price, the features and the quality I am very happy with this purchase. The only drawback I can see, is that it is only 5.1 channels if someone was to add side speakers for a 7.1 channel setup. I was not worried about it since I don't have the space to add extra speakers or felt a need for them as the room sounds great the way it is.[...]

This Onkyo A/V Receiver/Amplifier has been a very solid performer. It has very clean sound, has more than enough power for small-to-medium size rooms and has all the necessary outputs. If it proves over time to be durable as well, I will consider this Onkyo product to have been an excellent purchase.

Was upgrading from an old Kenwood system that lasted me many years, but I had to get into this century.
This receiver met all my requirements:
5.1 system.
Price.
Four HDMI Inputs.
Two Zones.
Quality/Reputation of brand.

Set up was not that bad, but read the instructions. This receiver has a lot of capabilities that may add a level of complexity for the not so patient. Sound set up with the enclosed mic worked great. I have an "L" shaped TV room that I thought would be difficult to set up, but the receiver Auto-calibrated and set up just fine. If you have a subwoofer make sure you set it up as recommended in the instructions, it will sounds great!

The two zone feature works very well though it requires set up to work properly. Not that hard, but once again, read and be patient.

Bottom line; if you need two zones and dont need a 7.1 system and upconversion, this is an outstanding choice. With Four HDMI in ports you cant go wrong.

I'm not a high tech guy, but I can assure you, you will not go wrong with this product. However, make sure you have a powered sub, decent speakers and sit back and enjoy the sound quality.
