I hesitated between giving this product an "excellent" or "good" overall rating. It seems that the guts of this dishwasher are indeed excellent but with insufficient engineering devoted to two of the features: the culinary rack and the utensil basket. First the good: It's whisper quiet. A whisper is in fact loud in comparison. You barely hear it when it's running. It normally does an excellent job of cleaning although once I had left a few glasses in the sink and washed my hands over the glasses before, later on, loading them into the dishwasher. [I know, I know.] The soap film, from washing my hands, had dried onto the glasses. Because of that, the glasses going into the dishwasher had dried soap film which two runs through the dishwasher failed to completely remove. I eventually washed the glasses by hand and them put them through the dishwasher and no more soap film. Sort of defeats the purpose though. On the other hand, the dishwasher leaves the dishes, including glassware and stainless clean and spotless from food. I typically use the "normal" cycle and shut off the heated drying and everything still comes out clean and spot free. I definately recommend using a rinse aid. Also, "less is more" when using soap. The dishwasher needs very little soap. I only fill the soap dispenser about 1/2 way and that works fine. I also like the way the dishwasher looks and that the controls are hidden from view when the door is closed. Did I mention it's very quiet? Now the bad #not really bad but not as good#: This would be an "excellent" dishwasher except for the "culinary tool rack" and the "utensil basket". I am still trying to get used to the culinary tool rack, which is the top sliding drawer. For many "culinary tools" the inside height of the rack is not tall enough so I usually only put the eating and some serving utensils in the culinary rack. Large serving spoons and spatulas need to go elsewhere. Also, if the tongs in the culinary rack were a bit taller they'd hold the eating utensils better. Finally, the culinary tool rack robs space from the rack where you put glassware. My least favorite thing about the dishwasher is the utensil basket which occupies an entire side of the main drawer #where you put the dishes#. It's too big taking up too much valuable space. If it were 1/3 the size or even 1/4 the size, it would be just fine. Also, there are small door closures on the top of the utensil basket which seem a bit cheap on an expensive dishwasher. The doors on the utensil basket routinely come off their little tracks which is an annoyance. In my opinion additional engineering is called for in both the culinary rack and the utensil basket. In sum, this is a really good dishwasher. I would indeed buy the same one again although I'd like to see a bit more engineering devoted to both the culinary tool rack and the utensil basket. +

I have always had KitchenAid dishwashers and found them to be unsurpassed. I entertain a lot, and in my last house, I had 3 of them (2 in kitchen and one in the bar). This is the worst dishwasher I have ever owned. First, the one hour wash does nothing but santize. To really wash, you have to go with the power wash, which takes hours. It is so slow and still doesn't do the job that earlier models did. Plus, it is so cheaply made. I have had it less than a year and the rollers are already broken. I will never buy another KitchenAid dishwasher. This one has caused me to lose all faith in KitchenAid, if it was willing to put its name on an appliance this bad, especially at this price.

Very low noise level while running cleans very well racks slide in and out with the touch of a finger, very well made
Awfully engineered, always had dirty dishes.
I never got a clean load of dishes. Left all dishes with residue. Poorly engineered: Considering there is no food grinder on this model, the little holes in the spray arm are too small, and tiny food bits got stuck in the end holes of swing arm, thereby occluding them and preventing water from spraying out of them. Result: dirty dishes. The 3rd rack for utensils is not usable because you can't use tall glasses in the glass second rack. When you drop the glass rack lower to accommodate the tall glasses, the swing arm below hits your plates on the bottom rack and can't go around. This dishwasher actually moved food particles from one item to another. For example, leftover soup particles ended up inside my coffee cups! We ended up switching this model out for the new Maytag 800 series with the food grinder. That one works perfectly!
Okay at best

Bought this based on glowing reviews of Kitchenaid dishwashers from 2 relatives. Have had this dishwasher for 3 months and I miss the 14 year old entry level Maytag that it replaced. The dishes don't get clean, and I rinse my dishes before I put them in the washer. Unless they're perfectly clean going in, they come out dirty. That said, I like the third rack and it's very quiet. Not enough to overcome the fact that the dishes don't get clean. PROS: Love the third rack Very Quiet Heated Dry option CON: Doesn't clean well (boo Kitchenaid!)
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Kitchenaid Architect Series II

Pros-Nice dishwasher, very quiet operation, more space inside. Cons-I don't think it washes the dishes very well, food still on the plates and utensils. Maybe they sacrifice cleaning agitation and heat for energy savings.....just doesn't clean as thoroughly as my old washer. The middle rack has too many bends in the rack wires and makes it had to find a good combination to load bowls and glasses.

I bought this dishwasher a few months ago and love how clean the dishes get even if they have been sitting a few days before washing.

dishwasher is pretty quiet..except when changing cycles. then it lets out a low groan..which is pretty annoying. other than that...the dishwasher cleans the dishes well.
Efficient and so quiet!

I've had this dishwasher almost a year now and find it works very well and is the quietest dishwasher I've ever owned. Sometimes I have to listen carefully to make sure I did turn it on and that it's still working.
Very quiet dishwasher!

Bought the dishwasher after our LG died at the young age of 5 years old. The knew Kitchenaide is wonderful. Considerably quieter than the other machine, does a great job of washing dishes, and looks perfect in our kitchen.
