I hesitated between giving this product an "excellent" or "good" overall rating. It seems that the guts of this dishwasher are indeed excellent but with insufficient engineering devoted to two of the features: the culinary rack and the utensil basket. First the good: It's whisper quiet. A whisper is in fact loud in comparison. You barely hear it when it's running. It normally does an excellent job of cleaning although once I had left a few glasses in the sink and washed my hands over the glasses before, later on, loading them into the dishwasher. [I know, I know.] The soap film, from washing my hands, had dried onto the glasses. Because of that, the glasses going into the dishwasher had dried soap film which two runs through the dishwasher failed to completely remove. I eventually washed the glasses by hand and them put them through the dishwasher and no more soap film. Sort of defeats the purpose though. On the other hand, the dishwasher leaves the dishes, including glassware and stainless clean and spotless from food. I typically use the "normal" cycle and shut off the heated drying and everything still comes out clean and spot free. I definately recommend using a rinse aid. Also, "less is more" when using soap. The dishwasher needs very little soap. I only fill the soap dispenser about 1/2 way and that works fine. I also like the way the dishwasher looks and that the controls are hidden from view when the door is closed. Did I mention it's very quiet? Now the bad #not really bad but not as good#: This would be an "excellent" dishwasher except for the "culinary tool rack" and the "utensil basket". I am still trying to get used to the culinary tool rack, which is the top sliding drawer. For many "culinary tools" the inside height of the rack is not tall enough so I usually only put the eating and some serving utensils in the culinary rack. Large serving spoons and spatulas need to go elsewhere. Also, if the tongs in the culinary rack were a bit taller they'd hold the eating utensils better. Finally, the culinary tool rack robs space from the rack where you put glassware. My least favorite thing about the dishwasher is the utensil basket which occupies an entire side of the main drawer #where you put the dishes#. It's too big taking up too much valuable space. If it were 1/3 the size or even 1/4 the size, it would be just fine. Also, there are small door closures on the top of the utensil basket which seem a bit cheap on an expensive dishwasher. The doors on the utensil basket routinely come off their little tracks which is an annoyance. In my opinion additional engineering is called for in both the culinary rack and the utensil basket. In sum, this is a really good dishwasher. I would indeed buy the same one again although I'd like to see a bit more engineering devoted to both the culinary tool rack and the utensil basket. +

I have always had KitchenAid dishwashers and found them to be unsurpassed. I entertain a lot, and in my last house, I had 3 of them (2 in kitchen and one in the bar). This is the worst dishwasher I have ever owned. First, the one hour wash does nothing but santize. To really wash, you have to go with the power wash, which takes hours. It is so slow and still doesn't do the job that earlier models did. Plus, it is so cheaply made. I have had it less than a year and the rollers are already broken. I will never buy another KitchenAid dishwasher. This one has caused me to lose all faith in KitchenAid, if it was willing to put its name on an appliance this bad, especially at this price.

Brand New and Needs Warranty Work
from Austin, TX, United States
I picked it up and installed it yesterday but the control panel is not responding. Called KitchenAid and they questioned if was installed correctly - drain, water, and electricity all connected properly. Tech was scheduled and will be here tomorrow - I look forward to this. The interesting thing is there was water inside the D/W when I unpacked it. I assumed this meant the unit had been tested but perhaps it was left in the rain. I will say this the unit looks to be built well. The entire box is box is stainless with thick walls, the door operates well and shuts tightly, and the hook up for water and electric are convenient to access and straight forward to connect.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Love my dishwasher
I did a Lot of research before buying. I made good decision with the kitchenaid.
It's better than my last kitchenaid dishwasher

This replaced a similar kitchenaid dishwasher that had more features which lasted about 7 years. The first month the control panel went out and three years in I had to replace the motor and pump. I chose another Kitchenaid for several reasons, first I just replaced my 30 inch convection oven with a Stainless Steel KitchenAid and I want the appliances to match. This was also recommended by the sales person who told me the model had be redesigned. I went middle of the road thinking less features would equal less things to go wrong. Like my last Kitchenaid dishwasher it's really more of a sterilizer. If I don't put the dishes in clean they will come out dirty.
We like it!!

We are very pleased with our new dishwasher. The features are ideal for our household. It does an excellent job of cleaning various dishes, pot and pans, cups, glasses, and various other items. It is so quiet that there are times when, if it wasn't for the little light on the front, we would wonder if it was even running. We also enjoy the simplicity of operation.

Best dishwasher I have owned!

I am so pleased with this dishwasher, it is so quiet you do not know it is on! Being that our home has open concept, that is a nice feature.
Dishes get clean again!
from rural Illinois
The dishwasher was installed almost two weeks ago. So far, I'm quite happy with it. I like the silverware rack because each piece has its own hole so there's no 'spooning' of forks and spoons. I could use more of those thingies that hold plastic lids in place, but at least dishwasher manufacturers finally even realized they were needed. AND the dishes are getting clean again (without having to rinse everything before I put it in). One thing I DON'T like is that you have to open the door to get to the control panel.

We bought our dishwasher because the pump had gone out on our other one. My only complaint is that we cannot get as many dishes in the new one as we did in the old one. That means we have to make more loads in this drought stricken area.
