This unit meets all of my needs and expectations so far. I use it with a Sony 52" LCD TV, and the wireless connection to my home network. It was easy to set up and use. It plays both Blu-ray and standard DVDs flawlessly. Image quality seems very good, but I'm not an expert. I streamed a movie from Netflix perfectly, and also music and pictures from my PC. No complaints at all.

We're very happy with the BD390. It has worked out exactly as advertized. Beautiful image quality, fantastic streaming of music on our PC, and very good streaming of movies from the internet. Vudu HD movie looked great, though Netflix streamed movie quality was lacking. Would definitely recommend this player to anyone looking for an all-in-one media device.

It displays beautifully on the new Panasonic 50 inch G15 Plasma flat panel we have. The next step will be to add a new receiver that can connect via HDMI and provide theater sound

The only screwy thing (and it is certainly no biggie once you get used to it), is that the on/off button is located on the far left of the upper face of the device -- really, right over the disk tray -- while the disk open/close button is on the far right, as far away from the actual tray as it can be. Now, which would you press to eject the disk?

HDMI Cable did not work

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
For some reason, the HDMI cable did not work with this blu-ray player. I got a HDMI 1.3 ( according to specifications), and when I switch on the player, my TV displays the initial LG sign, but then the output switches to the AV cable. If I disconnect the AV cable, nothing happens. Since I got a blu-ray player to see HD, I am returning this box. But everything else seemed really nice when I used with the AV. The wireless internet was easy to connect, youtube and netflix worked very well, and blu-rays movies played well over the AV cable. Good user-interface and speed. But some quality flaw with the HDMI.

We bought Lg BD390 mainly to use it with our Netflix account. And it sure does wonders to all the streaming and DVD movies. Definitely worth waiting for it to become available for month or so. :) I am not so much impressed by the Blue ray disks. I mean, they look just Ok, pretty much like on any other player. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because LG Bd390 still offers very limited number of different online streaming services you can use.

One of the best Blu-Ray Streaming Player

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
I used to have Samsung Blu-Ray Player. CNET reviews are great about Samsung Blu-Ray players, but as a user i am not sure about that. After reading most user reviews i decided to go for LG BD 390 for its blu-ray capablities and streamming features and ignore Samsung players that can also stream. 1. Its Disc load time are good as good as PS3. 2. Easy set-up, i did not touch the manual and could set up everything including Streaming very intuitively 3. The image quality and even DVD upconversion is great 4. The best part was the streaming and for that alone i would say this is one of the best in market. The Netflix connectivity was smooth, though i would say the Netflix Interface - i think i have seen better ones that are more easier to navigate and search. No compliants, just that you take some more time to search for the movies you want. The Menu is slick and the best part of connectivity is that it is simple and it works seamlessly unlike Samsung BD-3600 where connecting to Internet is no comparison. Coming from LG this is a winner currently with fast load times, good image quality and great streaming!

WiFi Doesn't Work
Reviewed by Annie H (Enthusiast) from Seattle, WA on Jan 12, 2010
Verified Buyer
BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
I picked this specific Blu-Ray for two reasons. First, it was ranked one of Consumer Reports' best models. Second, it would allow me to connect to my home network wirelessly. With the exception of number two, it has worked flawlessly. But, not being able to use the WiFi is a BIG deal. I called support, and was instructed that the only thing they could tell me was to make sure our wireless router was on the same floor as the Blu-Ray, and it should work just fine. So, we brought our router upstairs, drilled holes in the floor to do so, and placed our router in an adjacent room that is less than twenty feet away, with no walls to interrupt the signal. Nevertheless, the most we could get the connection to work was for it to begin downloading an update, but then it would stall and cut out. We tried over and over, but the Blu-Ray could never hold a signal long enough. This was VERY frustrating, and as I write this, we are having to drill more holes in the floor to put cords back down to the basement, and run another cord up behind the Blu-Ray to run this thing wired. Needless to say, this disappointment has really colored our enjoyment of the product. The one thing I will say is that having a Netflix membership and being able to screen a variety of movies as part of the main membership fee is a god send. VuDu and CinemaNow are much like On Demand that we have through Comcast already (only slightly more expensive), and so being able to que movies from Netflix has been the biggest plus of this product.

Upgraded to a BluRay DVD player as prices were finally in the affordable range. We have played old DVD's on this and they have all worked fine, even home iMovie DVD's. Love accessing Netflix movies On Demand and Youtube videos! Only issue so far has been that the unit doesn't seem to remember the security password for the WiFi. I am going to have to check and see if there is a Setup Feature that will keep it as default.

The video and audio quality are very good. There are a couple of minor things that bug me. It seems you have to push quite hard on the remote buttons to get them to work. The other thing that really irritates me is there doesn't seem to be any way to get directly to the movie menu without manually skipping every preview. I haven't had the chance to play with this enough to see if there's a way around this, but it is very annoying.

I upgraded to a 50" plasma T.V. and decided to upgrade to Blu Ray as well. LG's picture and sound quality are excellent. I am getting the most out of my entertainment system now. The only trouble I have experienced is with the wireless portion of this unit. It is finicky and can take more than several attempts to get it set up and running. I have the LG unit virtually next to my Wii and have no problems with the Wii's wireless connectivity (less than 20" feet from the router with a strong signal) but the LG is hit and miss. I don't think it always recongizes the network. The people at LG have been helpful in resolving the issue, but they can only do so much. So don't always expect to get your You Tube or BD Live, it could take some time and patience.

When using with Nero MediaEss. there is a problem if you create your shared folder off the root of the drive. When I moved the share one level down MediaEss. was able to access without issues. Also, even though the BD390 will been seen by the server, it takes about 30-sec. to a minute for the handshake to exchange. (Win-XP SP3 / Nero MediaEss 4.3.26.0).

Had read positive reviews of the LDBD370 on Gizmodo and Engadget websites. The device has lived up to its excellent reputation. We use it as a Blu-Ray player and for playing net content from Netfliz, Youtube, and CinemaNow & Vudu. Image quality on my HDTV is superb (1080i). HD movies from Netflix also display beautifully. Online connection and streaming with my Apple Time Capsule was simple, straightforward, and problem-free. A great value at the price Abt offers the unit for. About the only room for improvement would be in the responsiveness of the 'vanilla' remote that comes with the player.

Purchased to use with the Panasonic AE3000 projector after much debate and comparison to the Samsung products. Chose the LG for the picture quality and the netflix streaming capability. Currently its the only one with integrated wifi, which works amazingly well and is so convenient with a diversified household. After dealing with the expense and unreliability of the xbox external wifi I try to avoid accessory wifi whenever possible. Truly plug and play, there was no additional fiddle factor - just plug it in, turn it on, and the menu pops up offering media, netflix, youtube, and several other options. Movies download perfectly within a few minutes (even with our spotty wifi) and blu-ray quality is amazing; crisp and clear even at 120".[...] Tech support was helpful with the speaker system (Onkyo HTS52000)

We initially ordered the LG390 through another vendor and it arrived DOA. This 2nd unit is a dream to setup and use once you figure out that the Enter button on the remote starts the movie, not the play button. The network is slow to even show pictures off my computer hard drive so that will need an upgrade to fully use the LG390. I can't report on it's ability to stream movies yet. Lack experience with the unit is the reason for 4 stars. Otherwise I'd give it a 5 star rating.

This product doesn't do what it's major selling point advertises: simply stated, it doesn't deal well with network media, the main thing that it is supposed to do. It doesn't recognize a video_ts folder, cannot deal with menus for ripped video, and essentially, is about 15 years behind the times, technology-wise. Avoid this at all costs. I'd return mine if possible, but I am currently disabled and thus am stuck with this junk.

I have this player connected to my fiber optic ISP @ 50 Mbps LAN via a cat 6 cable and the streaming Netflix in HD is unbelievable! Not all movies are available in HD, and you'll notice some aberration on those that are lower quality. The video quality simply exceeds the quality available from the server, especially on YouTube. The Blu-Ray player is excellent and simple. I haven't experienced any problems with disc reading in the 5 months I've owned it. I only wish it had support for HULU streaming as well. Maybe a future upgrade will address that.

I kept reading from other consumers that this product was difficult to set up for a wireless network. So I first read the product guide from cover to cover. I became totally daunted. I decided to KISS (keep it simple, stupid) and used the fast hook-up guide. After I plugged in everything using a purchased HD cable and NOT any of the cables that came with the Blu-ray, I called LG to hold my hand as I programmed the unit for wireless. I have a locked wireless network and knew I needed to have my password ready to type in. I didn't need LG's help at all, but it was comforting that they were there "just in case" and I like that the representative was my a cheerleader. The set up was fast and totally painless. My wireless connection works great even though I had a router that is 6 years old and located on the first floor of my home. (My LCD TV and Blu-ray are located on the second floor.) One note that may have made a difference: Before I began setting up, I make sure my cable box and router were sitting on a table and not the floor. My router was also sitting on top of my internet cable box so, I put small wooden blocks between the router and the cable box to give the router some "air." Everything has worked perfectly and I couldn't be happier using the wireless network for Netflix, et al.

Not everytime only sometime. 3) Netflix quality probably DVD like - but very acceptable 4) Unit a bit flimsy but given the remote you hardly ever touch the unit except to load discs. 5) Blu Ray quality is simply awesome - picture and sound. The device works well out of the box. It has relatively compact size, but is slightly larger that manufacturer lists. It works amazingly with playback of BluRay movies but also supports DivX/Xvid and other popular internet formats rather well. The problem comes with other "features." Wifi loves to forget WPA key upon restart so needs to be reentered everytime device is used. Also while it is working, it gets poor signal. My laptop at same location gets full signal. The solution was to run wires from router, now network capabilities are usable. Also youtube suffers from "network congestion" and can be rarely used. Last good note was DLNA client. I have a file server at home and LG streams movies and songs from that server. Very convenient.

Seems to be a nice product

In general, the picture and audio seems to be very nice. Although, some of my older dvd's, the picture was pixellated and the audio had some intermitten blank spots. I bought the LG BD390 because it was advertised as being able to watch YouTube and Netflix from your network connection. I can log in to my YouTube account but it is not possible to log in to my Netflix account. That option is not offered. I hope that it is remedied soon. I'm not interested in the CinemaNow option that is being offered instead of Netflix. I can't recommend this product yet because I'm still evaluating it. It depends on whether LG lives up to what is advertised for this product.
Cons: Couldn't get WiFi to work
Pros: High Quality Picture, Easy To Set Up
Best Uses: Home

Great Blu-ray

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
It plays every blu-ray I have tried from Netflix(rented) and purchased. All of them look great.... I was absolutely amazed at the quality of the Netflix picture I received thru my wireless Linksys system. The TV is at least 30 feet from the wireless signal and shows only two bars but the Netflix transmission never falters and is readily available for viewing. The picture quality from Netflix HD is equivalent to playing a Blu-ray disk on my 32 inch Samsung HDTV. I am no tech geek and am slightly fearful of my wireless and yet I was able to set up the internet connection and the Netflix connection by simply following the directions provided in the booklet that came with the player. It was very straightforward and the booklet gives you the information needed to do it, even if you are not a tech geek..... While this may cost a little more than some of the other Blu-rays out there, I think it is worth the money, especially if you already have a netflix account.....this is a 5 star product...
Pros: Easy To Use, Consistent Performance, High Quality Picture, Easy To Set Up, Durable

This is my first Blu Ray player and I love it with one big disappointment though. When you stop a disc and then play it again without turning the power off or removing the disc it doesn't remember where you left off! The set up was a breeze, I use NetFlix and the quality is excellent.
