Overall, it's a great product. It is a little noisy, but a necessary evil considering the moisture it's removing from the space. I'll take the noise over the moisture damage any day!

The Frigidaire Dehumidifier replaced an old Sears (LG) unit that stopped working after about three years. This unit is powerful and effective for my daylight basement of about 1,000 sf. Within a few hours, the basement became noticeably drier and warmer.

I bought the unit because of a humid basement. The unit has worked without any problems the whole time I have owned it. I have not set up the unit to automatically drain but will eventually try it because draining it becomes a nuisance. The one con about the unit is that it is little noisy.

I had an issue with removing the bucket but called Frigidaire and the customer rep. asked me to check the filter to see if it was possibly a little low and blocking the removal of the bucket, sure enough, that is what it was. Problem solved, it does also come on for a few seconds and stop, then does it again and she said that is normal and the units way of checking the moisture in the air. I have owned several dehumidifiers and this is the first one that has done that. I am extremely satisfied with the amount of water it pulls out of the air. I set it at 35% humidity and am happy with the results. The unit is noisy but they all are, for the price and efficiency I think this is a Great buy.

I am really happy with this dehumidifier, the dampness and dank smell in the basement have definitely disappeared since we started using it. However, it's quite loud - it works great for a basement, but I imagine it would be too loud for a living room or or a bedroom.

Pros: Effective
Describe Yourself: Homeowner
Best Uses: Summer Humidity, Damp crawlspace
Cons: Too early to tell
Have only had the product working for two weeks but so far it seems to be removing just as much moisture as the rented Drizair 1200 commercial dehumidifier that preceded it. Have not gotten my first electric bill to see what the effect is on my usage, but seems to do the job well.

Pros: Quiet
Nice unit, reasonably quiet. The water pan is somewhat difficult to remove at times. It does perform well, looks modern. No real issues in fact I purchased another one since the lower level of my home is too large for one unit to effecticively dehumidify.

We use this for a damp basement and it is doing a good job of controlling the humidity. I like the digital controls. We haven't owned it long enough to evaluate the energy efficiency. It's a nice looking unit and pulls the moisture out much faster than the old unit we replaced.

Best Uses: Dank Basement
Pros: Effective
Cons: Fan noisy on high
Describe Yourself: Homeowner, Handyman
Primary use: Personal
At three weeks, this dehumidifier has lived up to its generally stellar reviews across several online sources: it has done an excellent job of drying out our dank, unfinished 1200 square foot basement by reliably pumping out gallon after gallon of humidity around the clock. I hooked up a hose from the outset to make it maintenance free. When the hose became kinked, the water automatically filled the container and then the unit shut off before it overflowed - so these fail-safe features worked well too. The fan is pretty loud on high, as others have noted, but the ability to move so much moist air is also why it is so effective. With the fan on low, we cannot hear it upstairs but you certainly will if you are using it in a living space. We are using the continuous mode but switching to the humidistat setting would run the fan intermittently. Assuming the reliability is as good as the warranty and other reviews suggest, this is an excellent product for our purposes.

Great humidifier! Easy to operate and move around with the handle. Much better than an old 25 pint humidifier I was using that was the same size. The red indicator light that comes up when it's full is a great feature. The only reason I didn't give it 5 starts is because the tank is a little hard to remove. You have to jiggle it a bit to get it to pop out.

We have a 90 year old house with a deep basement that has no leaks but was always damp...until now. This Frigidaire unit is working very well in reducing the dampness. After 2-3 days of continuous use the cool/moist feeling was gone (our basement is about 860 sq.ft. and 8 feet deep). The fan's a little noisy but we can't hear it upstairs. Solved our chronic moisture problem.

Cons: Awkward Water Pan, Loud
Best Uses: Dank Basement
Pros: Effective
Describe Yourself: Homeowner
Primary use: Personal
As previous reviews have stated, the unit is loud (even louder than I expected); however, I use it in my unfinished basement so this is not an issue. Also, as previous reviews have stated, it is awkward to remove the water pan. The pan is filled to the top before the full light comes on & you must be very careful removing it to avoid a spill. The dehumidifier does an excellent job removing water from the air. I only gave the unit 4 stars because I have only owned it for a month. If it lasts longer than my last dehumidifier (3 years) then I'd consider upping the rating.

I am using the product to dry out my damp basement. The controls are easy to set and the item removes moisture very well. I was emptying it 3 to 4 times a day, so I attached a hose and it now runs the water directly into the floor drain. Now I can run it and not have to worry about forgetting to empty the bucket. Great product.

Good value and it does the job. The machine shut off after the initial run to bring the room to my setting. There are times when it turns on for about 10 seconds and then shuts off. Is it "sniffing" the air to check it out? I don't seem to find anything on it in the literature.

I decided to buy this product by researching online and reading reviews about this product. It is highly recommended and the best seller for basement dehumidifiers. It is a little heavy to me, but I guess it is nothing to others. It is not a problem to me because I only use it in basement, and I don't need to move it. It works perfectly. It is quiet and efficient. What I like most is it is easy to throw out the water and it is timing functions. I usually one hour in the early morning and one hour at night. I put the air freshener nearby the fan. so after one hour the basements smells dry and good. I have used it for one month and I have been enjoying it. No complaints at all.

This is my third dehumidifier and by far it has the quietest compressor and is the most efficient that I have owned. It has a high capacity fan so the air flow noise is a little loud on high but I can live with that. Only had for a month but so far it works great! We'll see if it lasts longer than 2 years though...That seems to be the average life of a dehumidifier in this day and age.

Cons: Noisy for living space

This dehumidifier works great. A little noisy for living areas, but perfect for a basement. It works quickly and with the drain hose it works continuously. It brought my overall house humidity from 70% to 45% in about 6 days (1600 sq. ft. house and full basement). I've only had it for about a month now, but no problems yet.

The product has functioned as desired and has the capacity so as not to run continuously. The only con to this point was that the water pan is a little difficult to remove. A small amount of grease on the latches helped. Assuming this unit will be reliable over the long term (years), I am satisfied.

this dehumidifier works great. I thought I had a dry basement, considering half is finished with carpeting, leather furniture and a lot of wood finishes. This product has been removing about 70 pints of water every 24 hours. Made a huge difference in the smell, very dry and clean smelling now.

Have only had this for a few weeks, but so far I am very impressed. My only "complaint" is that it draws so much water from the air, I have to empty the bucket every other day. I may have to run a hose from the unit to a drain so it needs less of my attention. The unit is by no means quiet, but the low fan speed setting is tolerable.

This is a great dehumidifier. I had bougth a Danby dehumidifier 15 months ago based on a top rating in Consumer Reports. That dehumidifier, however, was loud and stopped working after only 13 months. This dehumdifier is much quieter and just as effective. Moreover, the water container design is much better: this one has a plastic top so that when you remove the water container it doesn't leak all over, as the Danby did. I am very very pleased with this dehumidifier. A huge improvement over the Danby.

With all the rain in NY this spring/summer, our basement was DANK and had a musty smell. I was really concerend about mold growth with two small children, and a powerful dehumidfier seemed like the solution. It really was. Our basement now stays below 50% humidity and it feels and smells DRY. I haven't hooked up the hose yet, because I still need to buy a relative short garden hose, so I empty it twice a day. For the price, it's an awesome little work-horse that I wouldn't trade for the world, BUT (and this is a big BUT), it is loud. We have forced air heat, and vents come up from the basement. We keep them open now (again, to keep the air flowing and prevent mold)and the sound of the hummming dehumidifier can be heard in every room. On the first floor you can almost feel the vibrations from the basement below.

Best Uses: Dank Basement, Summer Humidity
Pros: Great Hose Connection, Easy to move, Effective
Primary use: Personal
Describe Yourself: Professional, Homeowner
I have gone through 5-6 dehumidifiers in my basement, and they typically last about 3 years +/-. I chose this model based on reviews. I have only had it about three weeks, so I can't speak about its durability, but its design is by far the best I've seen. The hose connection is designed so that the water bucket is completely bypassed, solving two problems: 1) there is no inch or two of standing water (which becomes slimy) in the bottom of the bucket as there is in the typical unit where the hose is attached to a flimsy connection built into the bucket. 2)It also allows for the unit to be moved from the location near the sump pump where it drains, to an area where there is no place to drain (in which case the bucket can be used, since it has not been punctured for the hose connection). The water bucket has a convenient handle on top as well as a cover to prevent water from splashing out when moving. The unit has a convenient handle on top for one-handed moving as well as handles on the side. The wheels make it easier to move also. It is not as loud as I expected based on some reviews - it is actually quieter than the smaller units of other brands that I have had. I also like the retro look the unit has.

This is the best dehumidifier I have ever seen. I am a mechanical engineer and I get very finicky about how machines are engineered. Well, I give this appliance an A+. No kidding....a very good design and it's amazingly effective (70 pints per day is almost twice the norm). I actually use this unit instead of two older GE models. I'm certain I'm pulling out more basement moisture with less electricity. I could not be more pleased. (Anyone want to buy an old GE dehumidifier??)

Cons: Cover is screwed down, Bucket is hard to clean
Best Uses: Dank Basement
Describe Yourself: Homeowner
Primary use: Personal
Pros: Quiet, Bucket is always full, Effective
You can definitely feel the change in himidity in the basement. I just have to keep up with the bucket changing since I don't have an output (a sink)for the hose. Also, it is quite tedious when cleaning the bucket since the cover is screwed down. I would definitely recommend this for humidity control purposes and if you have condensation due to temp change. Also, I recommend buying the warranty if you plan to run it continuously with a hose. But if you have high water table content & capillaries going into your house, this will not solve your problem since that is a bigger issue. For that, you may need a sump pump & a french drain inside your house.

The Frigidaire 70 Pint Dehumidifier is fantastic!! It is totally doing the job! The smell in our basement has disappeared. My husband and I are very happy that we've made the right choice in buying this product. I've done my research and Frigidaire has been rated #1 in the consumer report. We have been emptying the bucket twice a day and our basement now feels nice and dry. [...]

While I've owned the unit only about three weeks, so far the Frigidaire dehumidifier works as advertised. After allowing the unit to run full time for a period of 4 days after first setting it up (per manual), I now have the unit set to cycle off when humidity drops to 55%. My basement is not huge, so unit runs less than half the time now. The only disappointment I have with the unit is that it is much louder than I anticipated, certainly much louder than the Sears Kenmore unit it replaced. Luckily, I spend little time in the basement so this is not a major deal for me, but could be to someone who plans to run the unit in a living area.

This dehumidifier is used in a multi-unit residential building. It is very effective. It does throw off exhaust heat as a by-product of operation but it is effective and not too loud for a common area space.[...]

I have a very wet basement (about 25x30ft). This machine sucked the moisture out of my basement in under 3 days. Works great, but a little noisy for upstairs. The ability to run an out-drain line (same fitting as on the back of a washing machine)is great, but you must buy the hose separately. All in all...4 out of 5 stars.

Came back from vacation to a basement with 90% humidity. This unit got it down to 60% in two days! Getting ready to plumb it into our AC sump pump to avoid emptying the water tray, but the machine switches off when its full. Great unit, thrilled with it so far!
Great dehumidifer for the price

Best Uses: Dank Basement, Summer Humidity
Describe Yourself: Homeowner
Pros: Lightweight, Effective
Cons: Loud when running
Primary use: Personal
I purchased this because of reviews I saw on another site. I usually go with the recommendations of Consumer Reports, but they didn't review this. However, another site had over 100 good reviews about this so I bought it and haven't regretted that decision. Aside from the fact that its a little loud, it has really taken the moisture out of our finished basement and made it a lot more comfortable. Luckily, I have a slop sink in the basement and I was able to mount this on a stand just above the height of the sink. The house adapter allowed me to run a small house into the sink. Considering how well this works, I was filling the bucket up twice a day on these hot summer days. The hose allows me to run it 24/7 without having to go down and empty the bucket.

Filter Reset Light- bad idea!!!!
By GreenMachine from Rochester, NY on 07/10/2009.
Describe Yourself: Avid Cook
Pros: Quality Construction
According to the Owner's Guide, "the filter reset light will illuminate after 250 hours of operation". Fine. The only problem is that the machine shuts off and will not run until you push the "Filter" button to reset. I was away for a week-and-a-half and noticed that I wasn't hearing the dehumidifier run. I noticed that the filter reset light was on. I checked the filter- there was hardly any dust on it. Only after pushing the filter reset button would the unit run. I cannot recommend this unit to anyone who might go away for extended periods of time.

We just moved into a two level apartment that includes a finished basement where the bedrooms are located. We noticed immediately that our clothes, sheets, and other materials felt moist. After purchasing this dehumidifier, it is a completely different feeling. It has dried out our basement area. Plus, it holds a ton of water so we don't have to change the bucket much. The only downfall is it can be a little loud when it switches on during the night, but you get used to it.
Frigidaire 70 Pint Dehumidifier
By rocketman from East Lansing, Michigan on 07/8/2009.
Pros: Attractive Design, Compact, Quality Construction
Best Uses: Damp basements
I'm using this de-humidifier in my basement which gets a musty smell in the summertime. I have had several de-humidifers over the past several years mainly Kenmore's. None of them have lasted more than 2 years. This unit seems better built than my previous models and much more quiet. We shall see about staying power. All and all this unit is doing a very good job at the present time.

By Bob F from 07960 on 07/3/2009.
Pros: Convenient, Attractive Design, Easy To Use, Quality Construction
Cons: None
This is the best dehumidifier I have owned. I had a Royal Sovereign for only three weeks which was JUNK and I replaced it with this. I have owned other brands in the past many years also. Fridgidaire was not high on my list, but I really like this model a lot as it is so simple to use and no leaks.
FDF70S1 Dehumidifier
By SM from Crossville, TN on 07/3/2009.
Pros: Attractive Design
Cons: Caster wheels
Caster wheels are not removable which makes it somewhat difficult to balance the unit in a crawl space that is not level. It is quiet as we do not hear it running while we are upstairs. We made this purchase a few weeks ago and are very pleased with the unit.

So far, this has worked great. We have about 2000 sq feet, unfinished. We were having to empty twice daily, we recently did a direct hook-up, no more basket to empty! We now gladly use the basement on a daily basis.

Very pleased so far!
By Green Machine from Rochester, NY on 06/18/2009.
Pros: Quality Construction, Easy To Use, Attractive Design
While we normally use a drain hose instead of the dehumidifier accumulation tank, we initially used the tank to guage the unit's ability to remove moisture from the air. Very impressive. The hose hookup was the easiest of any unit we've owned so far. Unit noise was acceptable, esp. considering what a good job it was perfoming removing moisture from our basement. We hope this unit lasts, as last two units(Whirlpool) failed relatively early in life.
works great - except
By areyounutstoo from chicago on 06/12/2009.
Pros: Quality Construction, Compact, Attractive Design
We bought this unit after our 3 year old Kenmore stopped working. The Frigidaire is a good looking dehumidifier and works great with one exception. The water collection bucket is difficult to remove without binding up or spilling some water onto the floor. Before our last unit which also had a hard to remove bucket, we had an ugly one with the bucket in the rear that didn't have all the bells and whistles, but had a bucket that removed easily

Works as intended
By Dry basement buddy from Boston, MA on 06/8/2009.
Pros: Attractive Design, Easy To Use
Cons: Bulky
I use this in a basement where I previously had humidity problems and I had a smaller capacity dehumidifier which was running constantly and not removing a lot of the humidity. With this humidifier, I have not had a problem, although the real test will be the very humid days of the middle of summer. One small complaint would be the bucket is a bit difficult to remove (it doesn't come out smoothly and has to be jiggled/worked out) which is a problem when the bucket is all the way full since you can spill water on the floor but not much since it does have a plastic cover that partially covers the top of the bucket.
I would buy again
By Mike from Milwaukee on 06/2/2009.
Pros: Easy To Use, Guiet, Quality Construction, Convenient, Compact, Attractive Design
Best Uses: In basement
Very quiet! Very good packaging, EZ out box, unpacked and running in minutes. The controls are EZ to use and simple to understand. The basement humidity under control in two days, very good unit. The Frigidaire 70 Pint Dehumidifier also looks good.
Really Happy with this Product
By Don from Kansas City on 05/29/2009.

[...] Use in garage, so ability to attach hose to drain is a real plus. Good design. Quiet for amount of water it pulls from the air.
Solid dehumidier - 70 pint rating?
By obiwandog from Chicago, il on 05/29/2009.
Describe Yourself: Avid Cook
Best Uses: Basements
Cons: Bulky
Pros: Easy To Use, Convenient
Solid product working well and continuously since purchase. Water receptacle tends to get stuck in place, but it easily remedied witha few wiggles and tugs. I believe the 70 pint rating may be a bit of an exageration - but I think they all suffer from a similar rating system. I'd recommend this for basement similar to mine.
great product
By Jon from Holland, PA on 05/25/2009.
Pros: Attractive Design, Easy To Use
This is perhaps the quietest dehumidifier I have owned. I have a rather large basement and the Frigadere 70 pint is quiet and highly efficient at keeping the basement comfortable. Keeping the basement around 55% relative humidity is snap with this product. For the money you can not beat it!
