This refrigerator is ideal for single/two person household. I had the exact model purchased in July of 1998 at a cost $160.00 higher from a local appliance dealer in Elmhurst than the one purchased from ABT. Kinda wish I purchased the original frig from ABT then. I junked the old one without calling for service. I applied the service call ($125.00-175.00) towards the new unit, afterall, its eleven years old and what else is going to go. The improvements are slight but noticeable. Two separate bins vice one on my original unit plus there is a clear window on shelve above to see the contents of the bins without opening them. The handle is easier to grab being that it is round at the top. It now has a separate butter-keeper that I did not have before. There is a "full" shelf in the freezer from one side to the other vice a half shelf that kept falling if overloaded. The only complaint that I have with the new unit verses the old is that it appears that the freezer is smaller. The vents drawing the cold air down to the refrigerator section are pointed towards the door. The old unit was minus the vents on the floor. Apparently, they were on the top and less efficient.Lastly, I swear by Whirlpool as I have three other major appliances bearing their name and I couldn't be happier. Very reliable.

My old Whirlpool "Gold" model was better

While I am certainly happy to hear that this refrigerator is very energy efficient, I am bothered by a few design aspects, which, compared to my 1998 Gold refrigerator, are inferior:The first is, there is no light in the freezer section.. a great disappointment.Secondly, the two freezer door shelves are much too narrow compared to the old one; another disappointment. The "Gold" model had roll-out shelves in both compartments; this has none. The plastic bins are much too flimsy on the doors, and the large pull out drawer feels like it is going to completely fall out.Overall, I'd say this is not an upgraded product.

Terrible temperature control
from Minneapolis, MN
Comments about Whirlpool White Top Freezer Refrigerator:
Single temperature adjustment would not keep food frozen and not freeze food in the refrigerator portion. Can choose frozen lettuce or soupy ice cream. Multiple repair calls and no solution I am currently waiting for total breakdown so I can buy a different refrigerator.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good refrigerator at a good price
from Nampa, Idaho
Our garage refrigerator was dying and we got a great price on a new Whirlpool. So far it works great and it is very quiet. Roomy bright interior. We expect to see a drop in our electric bill also, but have not had it long enough to find out how much.I have recommended Whirlpool to a friend who was interested in our new purchase.

Lots of space.
By Sunshine C. J.
This one is very simple but sleek. Lots of space inside and the 2 drawers are of very good size.
from Montgomery, AL
I purchased this when my old one finely quit on me. I love the Whirlpool brand it to s the one that I opt to by 9 times out of 10. This refrigeratorl is the perfect size for my family. I allows me to section the kids snacks and juices off to the bottom shelf which is great so they are not standing there with the door open hollering "I don't see it mom". I would buy another today if I had to.

I live alone in an apartment with a very precise amount of space for a refrigerator. This one fit perfectly, and it was simple and has pleny of space for my needs. I'd think two people who use their fridge a lot would find this suitable as well. My only complaint is that there are times when the cooling system gets so noisy that it's distracting even from the next room. But usually it's pretty quiet and un-noticeable. Not exciting but I didn't want bells and whistles...I wanted dependable. It has delivered so far.
21 cu. ft. Top-freezer refrigerator by Whirlpool

This is a basic model. No fancy gadgets here. However, it is sturdy and reliable. I have a family of soon to be 6 and we eat at home all the time. My husband and I love to cook. This refrigerator has enough space for us and great. It is in our price range as well when it comes to appliances. we are very satisfied.
Better buy an extended warranty plan
I purchased this 21 cu. ft. Top-freezer not as a primary refrigerator but as a back-up / overflow from our day-to-day unit. It lives in the laundry and has been both convenient and right-sized. I knew when I purchased it that the freezer section did not have a light. I didn't think it would be required. I was wrong. With the standard one-year warranty, it began to fail before year two. Cooling in both the refrigerator and freezer stopped. A certified Whirlpool repair man evaluated the problem and advised that, not surprisingly, the coolant had leaked out of the system. He recharded the freon with a dye and will return in two weeks to visually find the leak. His experience led him to say that nine times out of ten, the evaporator is the culprit. Cost to repair, is likely to exceed $300 plus the $100 call-out fee. I have had refrigerator freezers that lasted twenty years and survived overseas moves. Less than two years...not very impressive.

Everything is great about this product. I have arthritis so its difficult for me to bend over so much to access the fridge section. I use the freezer much less often. But that has nothing to do with how great Whirlpool products perform!

Will not last long
from Fond du Lac, WI
I bought this model in July of 2010. The mfg date was Jan 2010. It lasted three years before it no longer defrosted and also kept the refrigerator portion cool. Buy cheap, get cheap.
What is Review Headline??
from Franklin, MA
Worst design I have ever seen. and I am 77 so I have dealt with a lot of refrigerators. The storage in the freezer door is the width of 2 slices of bread. It came with NO ice cube trays or ice bucket. Also no use & care material. I just finished printing out 60 pages of use & care and my printer is now out of ink. Refrigerator is so low and deep that it is impossible to get anything out of the bottom without hitting your head on the freezer door. Very, Very poor design. Good thing you discontinued this model. I have always liked Whirlpool appliances but this refrigerator is a huge disappointment!
