Perfect size refrigerator for a single

This refrigerator is ideal for single/two person household. I had the exact model purchased in July of 1998 at a cost $160.00 higher from a local appliance dealer in Elmhurst than the one purchased from ABT. Kinda wish I purchased the original frig from ABT then. I junked the old one without calling for service. I applied the service call ($125.00-175.00) towards the new unit, afterall, its eleven years old and what else is going to go. The improvements are slight but noticeable. Two separate bins vice one on my original unit plus there is a clear window on shelve above to see the contents of the bins without opening them. The handle is easier to grab being that it is round at the top. It now has a separate butter-keeper that I did not have before. There is a "full" shelf in the freezer from one side to the other vice a half shelf that kept falling if overloaded. The only complaint that I have with the new unit verses the old is that it appears that the freezer is smaller. The vents drawing the cold air down to the refrigerator section are pointed towards the door. The old unit was minus the vents on the floor. Apparently,they were on the top and less efficient.Lastly, I swear by Whirlpool as I have three other major appliances bearing their name and I couldn't be happier. Very reliable.

Very poor refrigerator

This refrigerator is poorly designed. There is no way to control the freezer and refrigerator sections separately. The consequence was that the freezer section never got below 10F no matter what I set the cooling thermostat to. At the coldest setting, liquid items in the refrigerator would freeze but the freezer still would not go below 10F and ice cream was always soft. I called for service but the service technician said it was performing "... up to specifications." Whirlpool customer service confirmed that there was no way to control freezer and refrigerator sections separately. Furthermore, the refrigerator section interior had sharp edges that should have a cover but the Whirlpool approved serviceman said that no cover is supplied on that model. I talked to the retailer and they "bought" back the unit. I purchased a competitor's similar model and it had separate controls and performs like it should and like expected. I do not recommend this model.

Purchased because my Kenmore purchased used in 1987 died. It was a 14.7 cu. ft.. We purchase this new Whirlpool becausse it fit the location in the kitchen.. However..-- This has a larger freezer than needed. The shelves though adjustable - the height between the bottom wire shelf and shelf is too small for anything but soda cans laid down. On the door the bottom shelf is good, the next shelf up doesn't allow enough height except for jelly size. a. The refrigerator should have -- smaller freezer compartment, larger refrigerator area. Pro - adjustable shelves & 2 drawer crisper,. Ref. looks good Con - the refrigerator is very noisy with a high pitched noise. I open the door to get something and it kicks on.. and runs and runs. Not enough refrigerator space. .
