Just bought this last night and my husband cleaned our office and hallway. What a difference it made! We have sandy soil in our area, pets, and light-colored carpet (bad combination). Although I was disgusted at the amount of filthy water that it extracted, I was glad it was out of my carpets. I took before and after photos and the difference is very obvious. We've had our carpets professionally cleaned in the past, but I don't think we'll need to anymore. Our results were fairly equal to what they do, plus we can now just do our high-traffic areas as needed and not have to pay to have the whole house done. We could not find the Platinum carpet cleaning solution at the store where we bought the machine, but my husband picked up some of the other Hoover cleaning solutions and I'm hoping that they are compatible with this machine.

When this machine works, it works GREAT. I love the feature of the separate tank for a clean water rinse. I love that the suction is powerful and leaves the carpet barely wet so that it drys quickly. However, this machine just doesn't hold up to normal use. I purchased this carpet cleaner in Aug 2009 and only 5 months later the brushes stopped spinning. Hoover sent me a new machine when the Authorized Repair Center near me refused to take it in for repair, stating they could not get parts. (When Hoover's own Authorized Repair Center refused to work on it, that should have been my first clue of things to come!) From the start, the cleaner also made a horrible grinding noise but Hoover claimed that was "normal" and attributed it to "tension on the belt." Just 8 months later, the hose pocket bracket on the replaced machine broke and it was in another repair shop for 6 or 7 weeks due to a long wait for Hoover to send parts. Less than a year after being repaired, the hose bracket broke again, the brushes started falling out if the machine wasn't flat on the floor to hold them in place, and the hand-held attachment would not spray water. Despite these problems, I was still able to use the machine to clean the carpet as long as I was extremely patient and careful with it. Well it looks like it completely bit the dust today. I was livid when it leaked a huge puddle of dirty water on my snow white carpet and the handle basically just fell apart so I am not able to get the tanks back in. This Platinum cleaner is probably one of the most expensive models in retail stores for consumer use. In my opinion, it has repeatedly failed mechanically to live up to the [$] I paid for it. Additionally, when you have a problem, it is next to impossible to get anyone from Hoover to answer the phone, and they don't respond to emails either.

cheap plastic parts
from Euless, TX, United States
Comments about Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner:
won't release shampoo, leaks a lot of water on carpet after releasing spray trigger, seems to be made of very cheap plastic parts. Only had this a couple years and it already need repairs.

Fell into pieces
By Really Hoover
from Nebraska, United States
I would NEVER spend my money on this product again. When we first bought it through Sears 3 years ago with a gift card (thank goodness), it worked amazing, as most have said. Yet, as things progressed, about 4-5 months later it lost its shine. The wheels started to catch and stop rotating as they should, they would make a strange whirring noise and stay in one place when it was on the wash spot. This could sometimes be fixed by moving the cleaner forwards and backwards repeatedly, but most of the time it just never spun. Then the dirty water tank started to leak, it would leak when cleaning, all over or when put upright. We had to start leaving it on our hard floors when we were done cleaning or it would make our carpets dirty again, it didn't matter if there was water in any of the tanks or not either. There were no blockages and it was cleaned frequently. Then the detergent tank started to leak profusely, there was nothing missing or damaged I could see, but it would leak whenever it was inserted. Yes, we only used Hoover brand cleaner. We would also run our vacuum over our carpet many times in different directions before we cleaned. Next to break was the clean water tank, no clue why, but it did. The hose would never work correctly with either brushes either, they wouldn't snap into place and would shoot water all over making more of a mess. Save time and effort, either put hardwood floors all over, or buy something else. We ended up throwing ours away 2 years later after it was rendered unusable, why bother with a warranty for a new hunk of junk that'll do the same?
Cheap plastic and wont run
from New Jersey, United States
This machine is great when it works. Cheap plastic door broke off with VERY little pressure. Now after about 10 uses it just wont run. Not durable at all. Stay away from this machine unless you're a hoover repair person.
I had this under 2 two years. It broke down Three Times. IMO Hoover is not interested in making a good machine, they want to sell Liquid Cleaner.
Made out of fragile plastic that breaks easily
from Chico, CA, United States
I bought the Platinum Collection model F8100900 and was able to use it 3 times before it finally broke. Clearly a manufacturer defect. The plastic is thin and fragile. Regular use led to the entire handle breaking. The plastic cracks right where the screws hold the handle to the base ( an obvious weak point). Newer models should be reinforced with Steel or aluminum to fix this problem. The cleaning power of this thing was great for the three uses that I got out of it. Easy to use, but takes a lot of maintenance to keep it running good. Be sure to read the manual for instructions on detergent to use and how to maintain it. This site would not let me upload the pictures I took of the damage. I have contacted Hoover, but have not yet heard back
I LOVE my carpets again!
from Sacramento, CA, United States
I bought my cleaner about 3 years ago. When I first bought it, I second guessed the decision because of the cost. I didn't have a lot of carpeted areas in my small apartment but they were dirty and needed serious cleaning. After the first cleaning my carpets look brand new. Even with three cats the machine was able to handle all of the pet hair. Of course I vacuumed my carpet with my standard vacuum cleaner before I use the carpet shampooer. When I let my friends borrow my machine everyone says the same thing, once they are done using the machine their carpets look new. if I had to say there was a drawback the only drawback I have is that the attachments although I perform well do not perform as well as the mean machine. The powered attachment performed very well but the crevice tool and the other tools only really perform the job of sucking out the cleaning solution. If you are going to use it I would suggest you do the job of cleaning it by hand before you try using the attachments to finish the job. the quality of the machines really was great it easy to take apart to clean and roller you can also clean the dirty water container. Nothing on it has broken. The only thing that happened to my machine was that someone lost the crevice tool but it's convenient to order a new one on the website. at under $2 this was an easy fix.
Brushes Quit Working After 2 Years
I've had this cleaner for 2 years, I love it BUT a few months ago the brushes stopped spinning. I ordered a Rotating Brush Assembly - Platinum Carpet Cleaner Model # 302619001 from Hoover recently and it wasn't the problem not to mention the brushes looked used (bristles splayed out), more than mine that I've had 2 years and have used a lot. I'm now going to have to take it in to find out what the problem is to have it fixed.

I've purchased a this model 4 years ago. I always use it for carpet, fabric sofa, and car seat/floor. I have also saved lots of money by cleaning rental condo and my house. Once I spilled lots of paint on carpet, I could use this platinum steam vac without waiting a carpet cleaning worker. It always works perfect. I strongly this item, thanks. ^^

after 7 years of use, it is finally broken
from Indianapolis, IN, United States
This cleaner was worth the buy when I got it, I never had any issues till yesterday, when the rollers stopped spinning, the gears in the motor are apparently stripped and only spin if forced to go and as soon as touch floor they stop. Also the little screen filter broke, and being I cannot get parts for this great cleaner, I guess I need to find a new one to replace it.
Bad tank design
from Long Island,NY
I was very happy with this machine overall but had considerable difficulty loading the tanks. Apparently I have now snapped off the nipples on the handle shaft which determine fluid dispersion and red flashing lights on both tanks have appeared. I found one plastic nipple which cannot be glued or secured so the machine is useless,
