Comments about Frigidaire Frigidare Top Freezer Garage Heater Kit:
The installation of this product can be confusing if you're using the provided instructions. The Instructions are only for a certain model of fridge, but this heating element will work with almost any refrigerator. Just hook up the heating element in PARALLEL with the compressor leads (one orange, one black) and it will work fine. To do this, replace the existing lead connections with the corresponding heating element leads, then connect the existing leads onto the extra terminal on the corresponding heating element leads. It'll warm up when the compressor isn't running and will be bypassed by the path of least resistance when the compressor is running. For my particular refrigerator, the temp sensor is a wire that is exposed to the refrigerator compartment. I had to figure out a way to place the heating element close to the sensor, but not so close that it causes the compressor to come on almost instantly. The positioning mixed with the fine tuning of the refrigerator temperature control to get the right combination to keep the freezer frozen and the rest only cool if VERY tricky. Actually, I couldn't get the right combination, so my entire refrigerator is a block of ice now. Better than food thawing and spoiling, but not the perfect result. In conclusion, it does what it's supposed to, and does it well. But, getting it setup and "tuned" just right can be a long trial and error session if you don't have the exact model for which this is made.
