Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX1 Gray 10.2 Megapixels Digital Camera - DSCTX1H

Sporting an ultra-thin body, a 3" touch screen and phenomenal imaging technology, the Cyber-shot® DCS-TX1 digital camera delivers high-quality photos (and 720p HD video) in high-fashion style. A Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens and our new "Exmor R" CMOS Sensor works in combination with the BIONZ™ image processor for super-fast processing to make it easy to get the best shot. You can now shoot 10 frames per second at an incredible 10.2 megapixels per shot— perfect for those hard-to-get moments. You can even shoot beautiful landscape shots with ease and capture clear photos when you're in dark environments. Not sure which mode to use in challenging lighting conditions? Let the Intelligent Auto (iAuto) Mode choose the setting for you.

10.2 Megapixel Back-illuminated “Exmor R” CMOS Image Sensor: The TX1 features a 10.2 megapixel “Exmor R” CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. . In addition, the combined “Exmor R” CMOS sensor and BIONZ™ image processor delivers extremely fast 10fps, Anti Motion Blur, Hand-held Twilight and 720p movie modes.

Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® Lens with 4x Optical Zoom: The high-performance Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® 4x optical zoom lens brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports, and travel photos, and Close Focus shoots close-ups up to just under ½” from the subject.

3" Clear Photo LCD Plus™ Touch Screen: A large 3” Clear Photo LCD Plus™ touch screen display¹ (230K pixels) allows you to scroll through images by simply touching the display. Thanks to a layer of hardened glass on the touch screen, the display of the TX1 is twice as durable as the DSC-T90.

Stylish Slim Design: Measuring at just 3 3/4" x 2 3/8" x 21/32", the DSC-TX1 is slim enough to slip into a pocket or purse, so you can take it with you wherever you go.

Colors Available: The Cyber-shot® DSC-TX1 camera is available in silver, gray, pink, and blue.

BIONZ™ Image Processor: The BIONZ™ image processor delivers the high resolution and fast performance you expect from a Sony® digital camera. Fast processing enables Sweep Panorama Mode to create the image in seconds, clear images in low light settings, and layering one image over another to create a photo that looks just like what you see with your eyes.

Handheld Twilight: Capture cleaner and sharper night shots without using a tripod. When set to Handheld Twilight Mode, the TX1 captures six images in a fraction of a second with one press of the shutter, and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and low noise. With these modes, you can capture images in low light, without flash, beyond the capability of traditional cameras.6

Anti-Motion Blur Mode: Capture cleaner and sharper images, even when your subject is moving. When set in Anti-motion Blur Mode, the TX1 captures six images in a fraction of a second with higher shouter speed and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and eliminate subject blur, beyond the capability of traditional cameras.

Sweep Panorama mode: Reach beyond the traditional wide angle lens, and capture more breathtaking shots with Sweep Panorama Mode. Simply press the shutter button and sweep the camera in the desired direction and the camera continuously shoots at a high speed, then seamlessly stitches the images together with automatic position adjustment to create one stunning panoramic image. Available in wide and ultra-wide options, the camera can take panoramic shots of up to 185 degrees. Now capturing wide landscapes is as easy as press and sweep.

High speed shooting: The TX1 can capture full 10.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 fps, helping to ensure that you capture the decisive moment such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, the TX1 employs a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.

HD Movie (720p): Capture more of your memories in high definition (720p) video. Record HD movies in 720p high definition MPEG4 format with stereo sound for stunning large-screen home movie playback. Record up to 29 min in 720p format (or up to 2GB) per movie.

Easy Touch Screen Interaction: TX1 now offers intuitive additions to the multi-purpose touch screen, such as the ability to select the focus point with a simple touch, scroll through images by sliding your finger across the screen and one-touch access to the MENU. The display also features improved readability with list view, index view as well as new colored icons.

Creative painting tools: Decorate your photos with words and drawings using the included paint pen. There are also more than 30 stamps and 15 types of picture frames.

Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization: reduces blur caused by camera shake resulting in crisper clearer images: Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically shifts the lens to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality.

High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 3200): High ISO allows for faster shutter speed, so you can take photos indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. In addition to High Sensitivity Mode (ISO), you can select up to seven ISO settings (Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200) when shooting in Program Auto Mode to adjust sensitivity to your shooting conditions.

Intelligent Auto (iAuto) mode: Unlike traditional auto mode, Intelligent Auto (iAuto) mode thinks for you, recognizing scenes, lighting conditions, and faces, and adjusts settings resulting in clearer images, faces with more natural skin tone, and less blur. By incorporating advanced features such as Intelligent Scene Recognition, Face Detection technology, and Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization, iAuto mode lets you take advantage of the latest Sony® Cyber-shot® technology without leaving auto mode. Whether you’re shooting expansive landscapes, capturing playground action, or taking pictures at a birthday party or wedding shower, iAuto mode will optimize your camera’s settings to help ensure you come away with a great shot.

Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode: Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects nine different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a tripod, Portrait, Landscape, Macro, and Close Focus. iSCN has two modes: Auto and Advanced. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advanced Mode, the camera takes a photo with the optimal settings and, if in difficult lighting (low light or back light) immediately takes a second photo with another optimized setting so you can choose which to keep.

Intelligent AF: Thanks to Intelligent AF technology, capture fleeting moments like a child’s adorable expression with the ultra-quick AF which locks focus in as little as 0.3-sec.

Smile Shutter™ technology: Smile Shutter™ technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter™ button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can now be used together with Smile Shutter™ when the Intelligent Auto mode is on. This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting.

Motion Detection: Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces

Face Detection technology: Sony’s improved Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends. Newly added Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and accelerates the shutter speed when facial movement is detected, reducing blur in the subjects face.

Pet mode: Pet-mode minimizes blur when shooting moving pets utilizing Motion Detection technology and automatically turns off the flash to reduce glowing pet eyes. AF illumination is also disabled so you can take more natural expressions avoiding startling your pets.

Dynamic Range Optimizer Standard and Plus: Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to help recover shadows and highlights. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees. DRO is particularly effective when shooting backlit portraits or any scene with a dramatic contrast between background and foreground lighting. DRO Plus allows for even greater optimization by analyzing each region of an image and performing additional image processing.

Easy Shooting Mode: With Easy Shooting Mode, even beginners can take great photos. In Easy Shooting Mode, easy-to-understand basic instructions are displayed on the LCD screen and the camera switches to all automatic settings, removing several function choices and allowing you to focus on just your subject. Since this mode works together with Intelligent Scene Recognition, the camera selects the optimum setting for each scene. In addition the easy mode simplifies preview mode.

Viewing modes: Find your photos using the simple folder or calendar viewing modes.

In-Camera Retouching Tools: Retouch and enhance your photos on the go with in-camera Trimming, Red-Eye Correction, and Unsharp Masking functions.

Wide zoom display: To use the entire image area of your compatible HDTV screen (sold separately), Wide Zoom display automatically expands standard 4:3 and 3:2 images to 16:9.

PHOTOMUSIC: PHOTOMUSIC combines images with music³ (4 tracks, 5 minutes per track) to produce fun and entertaining slide shows with standard visual effects (Simple, Nostalgic, Active, and Stylish). Select from pre-loaded tracks on the camera or transfer your own from your compatible computer (sold separately).

PhotoTV HD: Bring your photos to life and enjoy highly detailed, high definition images with PhotoTV HD-capable Sony® BRAVIA® HDTVs.2 PhotoTV HD fine tunes settings on your PhotoTV HD enabled BRAVIA HDTV, such as sharpness, gradation, and color to display images that look more like printed photos.

Function Guide: This beginner-friendly optional function helps navigate through the various functions and settings displaying the description of chosen functions or settings on the LCD screen.

Lithium-ion battery: Included lithium-ion battery provides added convenience with longer lasting power than alkaline batteries.

Includes Sony® PMB (Picture Motion Browser) Software ver. 4.3: Sony’s Picture Motion Browser software4 offers a simple, intuitive way to transfer, sort, and view your video and still images on your compatible PC. Finding your images with PMB is easy with Face Search and Calendar view. Face Search allows you to filter by faces (one or many) and also by a specific person’s face. A new function, eDeco, allows you to easily add unique mood-enhancing elements to still images and movies such as matching photo frames, text, background music, and sound effects. New viewing features include highlight index function for movies, which displays thumbnails of scenes to enable easy search and playback, and panorama playback for full-screen viewing of your expansive Sweep Panorama photos.

Being worried this wonderful camera wouldn't make it here by my vacation, Sony provided me with the estimated date it would be here by... 1 day BEFORE my trip. So I was hoping this was accurate. Well... it was! I got this camera and was instantly IN LOVE! The huge touchscreen on this small sleek masterpiece is GORGEOUS. The panoramic pics are way better than expected. Actually, this camera is WAY better than I expected (and I expected a LOT). Ok, enough of me, I'm just so excited. I've NEVER wanted to write a review on ANYTHING, until this camera, I just want everyone to share this wonderful experience with me haha. I saw in another review that a message always popped up, and although I am unsure of what it was for sure, you do receive messages, but they are just safety features telling you to check the battery compartment and what not to keep the waterproof-ness at it's maximum, not that there is a problem. Overall, if you are considering this camera... PLEASE don't hesitate any longer. I spent YEARS finding this beauty. Going through other "waterproof cameras", this one by far exceeded my expectations. Again, sorry for the long review, I just can't say enough about this camera.

Unfortunately, Sony's first attempt at a rugged, waterproof camera comes up short if you intend to use it in any serious way for the advertised features. There are a number of good things to say about this camera and you will hear them in many other reviews online. However, while this camera is nice for regular use, it is not yet solid enough to be a real contender in the intended category. We have had waterproof cameras for years and bought the TX5 as a replacement for a Caribbean vacation and put it through its paces swimming, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking and other general use. Despite careful treatment in accordance with the manual, we discovered its limitations within a week: First, only buy the silver or "green" (basically silver as well). We bought black and the paint on the slide cover started flaking off in the first week without scratches. Second, like other online reviews, we noticed moisture inside the LCD screen. It appears to go away, but if you look carefully at the screen when the camera is off, there is apparent damage. Third, the touch screen interface is nice (if you can ignore the constant fingerprints and smudging), but sometimes the options/menu icons would just disappear and there was no simple way to bring them back. Fourth, the zoom sometimes refused to operate for no apparent reason. Fifth, although it is designed as an outdoor sports camera, holding the camera sideways (portrait), you cannot see the LCD screen if you are wearing polarized sunglasses. Sixth, it is a bad sign that Sony had to include a late additional insert in the box warning about opening and closing the camera in water containing sand. This is a major design flaw for a camera targeted at beach goers! Obviously Sony will have to make serious changes to this sliding cover in the 2nd gen. Seventh, there are too many annoying warnings and messages that pop up repeatedly on screen. Maybe there is a way to disable them, but I haven't found it yet. Eighth, the battery/memory cover should have a more secure closure and locking mechanism so that users can have complete confidence in the camera. Ninth, you will need to keep the camera in a case because even though it is supposed to be rugged, the LCD screen will scratch easily and scratching will detract from future use as everything relies on the screen. The TX5 is a great start, but Sony rushed this product to market without properly testing and refining. I hope they take on feedback from their customers because I think they are on track to making the best camera in the category when they sort out the problems and achieve design reliability. I only hope that they respect their customers who were willing to take a chance on their 1st gen camera by honoring the numerous warranty claims that will be coming their way. This will keep customers loyal for a much improved 2nd gen waterproof camera.

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX1 Silver 10.2 Megapixels Digital Camera:

I really like everything about this camera, but don't count on using it for much more than a year. I have had a T300 and a TX5 in the last three years, and they both turned into vibrating paperweights. So it works out to several hundred dollars a year. Kind of like a car lease--you keep up with the new features, but don't think you end up owning anything for the money. I guess my next move is to buy a TX10 and use it for a year or so before it craps out. Great design, pathetic durability.

Exceeded my expectations!

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX1 Silver 10.2 Megapixels Digital Camera:

I can't think of a single thing that I don't like about this camera. I bought it for a trip to Thailand, only bought a waterproof camera so that I'd feel comfortable operating it near water...not for the purpose of taking underwater pictures. Well it takes great pictures, both above and below water. I'm so glad I chose it, I went snorkeling in Thailand and got AMAZING shots and videos too! Everybody there loved my camera and pictures so much, I have picked up one for my sister-in-law and sent it to her in Baltimore, and one for my brother-in-law and sent it to him in Singapore. I bought it at an outlet store for $180, so it was well worth the money, but it would have been worth the $300 I originally expected to pay. Tip: Buy a floating camera strap just for peace of mind in case you drop it into a body of water. is great all-around. The touch screen even works awesome, including underwater. I should do commercials for Sony because I love this camera! Check out my 2 sample pics, one above water, one below water.

I have used this case on several dive trips both in cold water and the warm waters of the Carri bean. It worked perfectly in both conditions. It is easy to use and and will give you great pictures. I have had this down to 130 ft and had no problems at all with any leaks. I like the fact that it is a small housing and can be tucked in a pocket of a BC if you want too. I use it as a back up camera to my video camera. I use the TX1 with this housing.

I like that camera very much. The panorama feature is amazing. Easy user interfaces. Accompanying photo shows the peeled-off skin/paint on the front cover. We were taking underwater photos and saw the skin, which was originally the dull gray finish, peel off to reveal the silver metal.

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX1 Silver 10.2 Megapixels Digital Camera:

I got this camera 2 weeks ago, with 8Gb Kingston Class 6 133X SD Card and configured it at 7 Mp resolution (max resolution in 16:9 format available). After taking 240 pictures aprox, a message appears: Check memory card. So, i shutdown the camera, got the memory off and put it again. When i turned on the camera a message appears: System error. I downloaded the pictures on my pc and put the memory again. The camera works again without any error message, but i couldn't get any christmas pictures... cause of this problem. Is There a way to fix this problem?

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX1 Silver 10.2 Megapixels Digital Camera:

I have had the red one over a year now. Just as my warranty was up the edges of paint started to chip off, so I would get the pure metal one if I had the chance again. I ended up putting nail polish on the chipped edge. My new camera! Thought it was oxidized aluminum like on some knives.... I don't get the battery either. You need 2 because the juice runs out so fast. Unlike my old cyber you can't run in and buy AA's from the store in a pinch either. Every time you go out you have to make sure your batteries are freshly charged. Last complaint: I keep putting my finger on the lens, you need to be a little nimble with it. The photos are EXCELLENT. Get to know your settings for optimum results... movie clips to you tube AND I made finalist in a magazine of 20 photos out of like 100! Already! NIce overall, carl zeiss is the bomb.

      DON'T BUY

      By chelleb2010

      from Denver, CO

Comments about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX1 Silver 10.2 Megapixels Digital Camera:

I read many reviews before buying this camera, some were great, some were not. I went ahead and bought it anyway for my honeymoon in Hawaii, so I could take it to the beach and not worry about it getting wet. Big mistake. My husband was skeptical the camera would hold up as it said it would, guess I should have listened! I read the instruction manual cover to cover, and with the first use of taking this camera underwater (snorkeling, at the top of the water) when I turned it on the screen started flashing and wouldn't take pictures. I got out of the water dried it off, opened it and there was water in the battery compartment. I sent the camera into Sony to be repaired when we got home. After 4 weeks of no contact I called Sony only to be told the camera had water in the battery compartment (which I already knew!) and that voided the warranty and they would not be replacing it. I've spent countless hours on the phone with their unhelpful customer service department only to be told that I did not take care of the camera and it will not be replaced/repaired. Never again will I buy another Sony product.
