[...] The book is very light weight and I love the lighted book cover. The price was very good too. Problems: I was lead to belive that I could access any thing in a local library. That was not true. I can only acess what the library has on internet. Not that many free books in the genre that I read. The reader had frozen twice since I have had it and I only have it for three weeks. I have gotten infomation on how to fix this problem but it continues to occur. I hope that you respond and let me know what I can do about this problem. I enjoy my reader and hope to have many good years ahead with this product. Thank you. Donna Reso

This appears to be a great device, but over the three months I've owned it, I haven't been able to get it to work with Reader Library. I open the Reader Library program and it functions fine. I connect the Reader Device to the computer and the Library program stops working. Sony service is no help, as they've had me reloading software 10 times! I think I've just got a dud and now I need to figure out how to return it for one that works. Dud, Sony... dud! Waste of money!

I use this everyday to read for pleasure. With three kids reading is my escape. It's great to not lose your place and be able to carry so many books at once. The only problem I've had so far is it's way too easy for me to buy new books. I don't have to load the car with the kids, drive for miles to the store and then be interrupted while trying to pick a book. I can do it in my pj's. Great!
Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Set Up, Attractive Design
Best Uses: Reading

Great eBook Reader

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
Bought the Sony Reader PRS-600 after research on the options available in the market including the Kindle and Nook. The Reader's use of ePub, a non-proprietary standard won me over. [The Nook was a big disappointment - models available at B&N stores were "crippled" - unable to test the wireless functionality and only a single book was loaded so it was impossible to test speed of loading / switching books. In addition, navigation on the Nook was both confusing and clunky.] MS Word and Adobe PDF docs can be imported into the Reader's library without any need for conversion. If needed, utilities for conversion to ePub format is available for free on the web. Switching font size is a breeze. Turning pages with the touch screen is highly intuitive and the response is very good. The Reader's software is very easy to use (despite the lack of a good user manual) - anyone familiar with the iTune interface should have no trouble with it. My only complaint is that the Reader only supports English language text at this time. Not sure when Chinese / Kanji support will be available - hopefully soon.
Pros: Compact Design, Fast, Easy To Use, Adequate Storage, Good Compatibility
Cons: Incomplete User Manual, Limited language support
Best Uses: Reading ebooks, Making notes, Editing uploaded docs

I bought the Sony Reader touch edition to read tons of PDF files in my job. It does a pretty decent job, now I enjoy the pleasure to read in a paper like screen without producing CO2 and carrying with me pounds of extra weight in my backpack.

Product is fun to use. I also like the mp3 part and have downloaded a book that I own to listen to when I want to just listen (instead of read). I will be downloading other books including audio books in the future from the internet sites available. Some of the older books are even free.
Pros: Easy To Set Up

You get exactly what you purchase with the Sony Reader...it is a very handy device for storing basically an unlimited amount of E-books. Sony's ink technology is extremely easy on the eyes (Nothing like looking at a computer screen for hours, comparable to looking at a book). Touch screen is a definite plus. The only drawback I can find so far is not being able to read in lower light...due to no built in illumination source. There are plenty of accessories that can take care of this issue, though. All in all, a great product for traveling and lounging around the house.

My unit froze when trying to update the firmware. It appears the reader wasn't fully charged before i attempted this. I had to return it immediately to Sony for repair, but it was done in a timely manner. Just got it back and I like it very much. You may read reviews about compromised readability compared to 500/505, because of glare and the touch screen layer: don't believe it. I have them side by side and i actually like the contrast and readability better on the new 600; Touch screen works like a charm and is fast; note-taking and dictionary are easy to use and very responsive. The Ebook Library software is occasionally acting funky, but it has not been a huge problem.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast
Cons: Hard To Setup
Best Uses: Upgrade

[...] The product works as it was touted on Utube. Watch the demo and see for yourself. I have read 8 books that I checked out of the library and that is a huge savings for me. I chose the Sony because of the formats it accepts. WI-FI was not a big selling point for me.

The Sony PRS-600 has been one of my favorite tech toys. It is easy to use and absolutely outstanding for traveling. Being able to carry multiple books with me on the road and on airplanes has been quite enjoyable. The battery life has been great on week long trips and I've yet to have it go dead on me at the wrong time. Although it is not great in low-light conditions it is as good as a real ink and paper book. The integrated dictionary has come in quite useful in identifying words I was unsure of. If you are considering an electronic book I would highly recommend this one.

Even with all the new bells and whistle e.g touch screen, and built in dictionary. The PRS 600 failed at in fundamental purpose-create a screen that simulate ink and paper books. The screen is a down grade from the beautiful PRS-505 edition. Unlike the PRS 505, the contrast is poor, and the screen feels spongy. After playing with the product for 2 days, I found myself coming back to the old PRS 505. I believe this product will relegate into the background like it former cousin the PRS 700. Sony, please before you implement more innovations to your product, please did not forget the primary mission of an ebook -create a readable environment to READ!!

Pluses: The product worked as expected. It installed quickly and easily (the software installed from the reader itself) I have had no real problems with the ereader. I have spent quite a bit of time using it. If my grandfather were still alive, I would send one to him because the type can be expanded to be readable for those with sight problems. Minuses: Screen glare/reflectivity is a problem. The unit will only charge with the USB plug when connected to the computer. If you will not have the computer handy, you will want to purchase the external power supply accessory. Wishes for improvement: The unit knows date/time, but there is no way to display it on the screen. Contact information to be displayed when the unit is locked (sort of the way a PDA does).
Pros: Easy To Use, Easy To Set Up

If this is your first ebook reader, than I highly recommend it. It is nice and does the job well. If you already own a sony reader PRS505 then I would not recommend buying it because the contrast is not as good and you might think of it as more of a downgrade. Overall, I read so much more with this reader.

Things that you may already be aware of are, this unit doesn't support wireless connection, unlike Kindle. So everything you are doing on this is kind of offline work. I was fully aware of this feature before buying and my preference was to go for touch technology. I really didn't like ton of buttons on the device and wanted a simple reader with touch technology. A free bee was, it also plays your mp3 files. Not all PDF files read well as promised, so look for a converter on internet for better format. So, I am happy to use this reader on my commute time and pretty useful instead of carrying ton of books with me.

The device itself is good. Decent screen, not quite as clear as the 505, but still very usable. Main problem comes from the poor sync software. iTunes has provided a model for what easy organization should be like. The software lacks the ability to rename books when titles etc. are missing, and forcing it to resync can be a hassle. Would be nice to have the option to allow the software to organize my eBook collection instead of making me do it manually.
