A main reason that I bought the new refrigerator is for the freezer being on the bottom =- I previously had a standard top-freezer 22 ft. unit. The French doors are wonderful -- the space is a bit tight in front of the fridge and access is so much easier. The freezer drawer looks huge and is more accessible with the sliding racks. However, I was shocked when I couldn't fit everything I had in the old top freezer (which looked so small) into this big drawer. There are two reasons -- the back of the freezing compartment is curved in (covering parts of the machinery) which takes a lot of space out. Secondly, an ice maker takes up a large amount of space. I have no intention of connecting the ice maker to a water supply, so have absolutely no need for it. However, it cannot be removed and is a barrier to full use of the potential space. Now that I've reduced the amount of food (and extra bread!) that I keep in the fridge it's working out.

I purchased this product about 4 years ago. Initially was very pleased with the look and its performance. However after four years problems have started to show and I am very displeased with this refrigerator. I have been having trouble with water pooling on my floor, at first I didn't think much of it, just mopped it up and thought that was that. However, this problem has gotten way worse where the pooling of water is so extensive and constant, that I have to have towels and paper towels laying on the floor outside my refrigerator as the amount of water coming out is unbelievable. I went into my basement yesterday to get something, nothing related to this, and I noted a puddle on the basement floor and as I looked up water was leaking, from the exact area that the upstairs refrigerator is located. I cannot seem to keep items frozen in the freezer despite having it on the coldest setting and a few times there has been ice in beverages in the fridge portion. So not only am I frustrated that the refrigerator/freezer are not working properly but it has not started to wreck my house also when then water has penetrated down into the basement. As I looked on the internet to see if this was a problem only I was having, I was appalled to see the amount of individuals that this was happening to. I bought this Whirlpool gold refrigerator as I thought I was getting a good product but I am very disappointed that with all the reviews I read that a recall has not been issued for this problem. I will be calling Whirlpool tomorrow to see what they say. I know I am past the warranty date but I hope they are willing to stand by their product and provide customer service that would help a dissatisfied individual fix the issue at hand. I will write back with another review after I have spoken with them so I can also let you know how helpful or not helpful their customer service is.

Defroster issue; noisy
from Bucks County PA
Comments about Whirlpool GX2FHDXVQ White Bottom Freezer Refrigerator:
Refrigerator is three years old. As noted by other(s), there is an issue with the defroster drain getting clogged causing ice to form on the freezer floor. I had mine repaired today at a cost of $250 + tax. The repairman said this is a common problem with this model. I have never neeed a repair with any other refirgerator I have owned and will think twice about purchasing Whirlpool products in the future. In addition, as also noted by other(s), the unit is quite noisy. I am hoping there was a connection between the defroster issue and the noise and that both problems have been resolved but I will not hold my breath on that one.

Buyer beware of freezer problem!

Water accumulates on freezer floor. Company provides a fix kit only when you call for it. Labor and installation is on your dollar, supposedly up to $100, but repairers actual charge is $200. Whirlpool does not reimburse you. Otherwise a good unit.

Lots of Storage! LOVE this fridge!
from Minneapolis, MN, United States
We purchased this Whirlpool fridge a few months ago and it's been amazing! No more bending over every time we need a cold something. Love how big the freezer is and the sliding rack provides great additional storage. The shelving in the main fridge is fantastic, the shelves are easy to move and easy to remove and clean. Best of all it's bright because they are see through. And my favorite feature is the soda pack holder. I love cold bubbly water and this is such a thoughtful easy way to store those cumbersome 12 packs of bubbly water/ soda!
Already stopped working

I bought this refrigerator at Costco. It is noisy, has the worst tasting ice and regularly freezes items in the refrigeration portion. The freezer drawer gets stuck open and looks closed. I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance.
Cheap plastic parts to save pennies?

Shelf supporting veggie drawers on my less-than-4-yr old frig broke, because both plastic tabs holding the shelf broke first. Metal supports might have cost a nickel more in manufacturing. Very disappointed in quality on my $1500 frig. And 5yr extended warranty doesn't cover? Whirlpool may be great for the parts people, not for consumers.

Sometime in the early eighties we purchased a Kenmore (Whirlpool) refrigerator at Thanksgiving as my current refrigerator died. Sears was able to send out the new one the next day, saving my Thanksgiving Day Turkey. A couple of months ago, given the age, and Thanksgiving Dinner approaching, we purchased our beautiful new Whirlpool refrigerator. We love it! Keeping up with the Whirlpool quality, my old refrigerator is still functioning and probably didn't need to replace it but I am glad we did. My other Whirlpool appliances are a washer and dryer. We wore the washer out but the dryer is still running like a champ. Keep up the good work on your appliances they last a long time if you care for them. Mine lasted 29+ years.
