We installed this microwave about 2 months ago after our last one fried & so far we like it very much. In the store they told us that we could defrost a roast in here & it would not be gray, we we haven't done a roast yet but we have defrosted ground beef & chicken & miscellaneous foods & they do come out perfect & not gray or half cooked! Reheating using the automatic controls works very well, items are evenly heated & not melted plastic on the outside edges. And as for just heating something up, it is very quick & powerful. Love the clean release coating on the inside. Just wish they could make an over the range microwave slitghtly smaller, they seem to be getting bigger. But overall we do like the microwave very much. A user manual would be nice to have as this has so many options it would be nice to know how to use the microwave correctly.

I moved in on 04-30-2010. I have the same problem with the magtrometer. We received the microwave withour housing developer. The developer used all whirlpool products. The microwave is awful. Within the first few months, the magtrometer had to be replaced. A few months later the directional thingy burned out. Now, the microwave has to be replaced. The extended warranty does not cover full replacement. They offer a deprecated cost. In this case, they offer 329.00 for a 439.00 or so microwave. I am not happy. Run very fast from this product! Oh, and do get me started on the beep. and reminder beeps - even when you are only using the Timer! BTW, I have an Emerson that I purchased in 1995 that has been used continuously, and it is still working.

Whirlpool Gold® 2.0 cu. ft. Microwave-Range Hood Combination

Comments about Whirlpool GMH5205XVB Black Microwave Hood Combination:
This microwave came with my home purchase three years ago, and it's been awesome. I haven't encounter any issue with it, and it only require minimal maintenance; cleaning the filter.

Worked great for three years... then broke
from Charlotte, NC
I bought this in 2012 and it lasted two years. The heating element has stopped working despite the rest of the unit working. The part to fix is $250...so the cost of a brand new machine. Very disappointed.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Not a expected quality from whirlpool

3 years into operation it went kapoof ....the main magnetron was broken as per the repair guy and he replaced it.I know things break, but common the main component magnetron is what make a microwave, the 70$ microwave from colleges days still work, and it has seen pretty rough use, and it was bought from big chain store, Emerson brand i think, I had to pull it out of storage, to save the day.The repair guy was kind enough to mention, that these have this issue, and guess what I had 2 options shell 300 USD for new warranty for year or pay 150(visit) + parts to repair guyThe plastic latches behind the metal frame are cracked as i think the power screw driver used by Repair guy was to much, and it still makes buzzing noise some timesIn hindsight i was better off buying off a new one , then to get this repaired
A little frustrating

This was an appliance which was installed by the builder.
Worst Microwave I have used ever
This is the worst microwave I have used ever... I had a 60$ Samsung cover the counter microwave for years and it worked perfect till I gave it to some one since I got this. The microwave had issues from the day 1 I got it as part of my newly built house from the builder. The service company initially they sent was totally a mess. They always showed up with wrong parts. I had to go for months without it working. They serviced it several times in the first year. When I finally fixed (?) it... in few months it started sparking from inside. Now I had another new company come and service it. They did replace the full magnetron , but again in 6 months it completely stopped working. Don't you think a microwave which is this expensive should work for at least 5 years. This made me think the complete Whirlpool brand is not so good...

I have the same problem with the magtrometer. We bought our house in September of 2012 and the appliances were builder supplied. No extended warranty but might as well treat as a consumable as the repair cost (parts & labor) will be close if not exceed the cost to replace. Lesson Learned...
I enjoyed the microwave oven very much; however, after just 2.5yrs, the microwave just stopped working and has not worked since.
Very poor design
from Raleigh, NC
Very poor design. Too many plastic parts for a microwave that is over a stove. The handle broke (plastic) the hood cover broke (plastic). The heating element burned out after 2 years of service. Very disappointed not under warranty for anything that was broken. It cost more to repair than to replace the microwave. The fan is very loud even on low setting.

Piece of junk
from North Carolina
For the amount of money i spent, i would expect this microwave to last at least 5 years. With 3 years of moderate usage is gone. I had a good impression of Whirpool brand but that impression is gone now. Too much money spent in a piece of junk.
