This is a really good, solid system. It can perform a range of duties from the everyday family that cleans consistently, or a weekend college kid who crams as many clothes as he or she can fit for the days or weeks ahead. Its rare, in my opinion, to find a reasonably priced piece of equipment that can handle the wide spectrum of duties that this unit can! To be honest, I am pleasantly surprised. I have had this unit now for 15 months. It has been involved in a move (setup, takedown, move, then setup again). It has been stacked as well as current configuration, side by side, with its amazing dryer partner. So, here is what I've observed. I believe the unit performs better with "The More the Merrier" approach. The tighter one gets the clothes packed in, the more efficient it becomes, both with water and additives (detergent, oxi, and softener). The unit tends to be slightly more aggressive (action) than an auger based system, which to an extent, makes sense because its own action makes the clothes do their rolly polly cleaning thing. rather than a central mechanism to spin around. From time to time I've had my clothes wound together after a cycle is complete. The clothes weren't damaged and it wasn't difficult to unwind them and it probably wouldn't have happened had I put more clothes in before starting the cycle. Therefore, I blame myself and not the unit when it happens. Nonetheless, the wound clothes still were very clean, so the washer was still able to get the job done! Occasionally, I hear the unit hopping (slightly off balance) but it doesn't happen enough for me to realign the feet (which is quite easy for anyone to do by themselves!). The noise is what everyone tends to focus their love or hate when it comes to front loading washers, to me, having this unit in the room next to where I sleep doesn't bother me with anything I do, including sleeping as it runs. Just a slight whrrrr noise that can easily be drowned out by a fan on low. The features are everything I could ever want in a washer. I use the steam cycles about 40% of the time. It wasn't my main reason for buying this unit but I find myself using it more than I would have ever imagined. For instance, my father had a tee-shirt he was wearing a few weeks ago. He complained it had a slight musty smell from being wet so he tried washing it multiple times with a fairly new (other branded) machine. As he was about to throw the shirt away after his failed attempts. I asked if I could bring it home and see what I could do. One cycle, BOOM... GONE... No smell. Perfect shirt. Just from this one circumstance, proves what kind of product this is and what it can do. Capacity is the only thing that I'd tend to have a gripe about. 4.3 cubic feet is able to handle just about every situation, when I encounter the occasional mount of clothes I do wish I could make the rest fit. It would be nice to have a bit more space to fit a quilt with some clothes perhaps but then again with the way it works and how quickly it cleans, its not that big of a deal. Cycles take from 23 minutes to 2 hours depending on what one's needs are. I usually have a 33 to 40 minute cycle on the wash. I'd say if your family was bigger than four people, I'd recommend a slightly bigger unit. Other than that, It looks great, its overly fancy and doesn't need to be polished and cleaned all the time. Just remember to keep the door ajar after washing so mold doesn't creep into the seals, which for me has never happened and I've never needed to clean it yet! It is VERY efficient and I've never looked back! Hope this helps! You can't go wrong with this unit no matter who you are and how messy your life is!

Washer was very quiet for three months before tub bearing failed. Despite using low spin speeds, the unit just became louder and louder. Tub with bearing assembly was replaced under warranty. Although I have had good luck with other Maytag/Whirlpool products, I do not have confidence that this repair will be a long term fix unless the bearing and seal is better engineered.

Our first front loads
from Virginia Beach, VA
Comments about Maytag Performance Series MHWE950WW White Front Load Steam Washer:
I am retired, and this is my first front load, raised kids and went through life with a top load. Can't express how pleased we are with this unit. The technology is so far superior, it works really well doing what it is supposed to do (clean clothes) and it is easy to use. I used another brand at our kids' and it was not friendly at all. Stingy on water, same with soap. The dispenser is really nice. If I had it to do over, probably would not have gotten the pedestals, though. Sort of a waste of space...but they look cool. From a 68 year old Husband/Father/Grandpa.

We picked this washer for its quality and features...Our old one was also a Maytag and lasted for years...this one will do the same The "Steam" feature was something we didn't have in our old one and wanted in the new one..it's quiet as well
Pleased with purchase
For the price I felt that the washer and dryer were very good purchases. They are the best machines that I've ever owned and their economic consumption of water, both hot and cold, is very helpful.
Convenient features and quiet running.

This washer has all the necessary and useful features. It is easy to use and runs very quietly, even at high spin speeds. I would recommend this washer and Maytag as a brand.

I have had traditional washers and prior to this machine I had another brand of HE Front Load Washer. My Maytag HEFLW is by far THE best. My clothes are so very clean when the cycle is complete. I especially like how the machine "pulls" all of the excess water out of my machine. No mess when transferring to the dryer, no water left in the machine which stops the odors I had with the previous HEFLW. When shopping for a new washer, I contemplated what I really wanted as I was not satisfied with my previous HEFLW. I am very pleased and satisfied with this machine. I hope to get the compatible dryer very soon! Thanks Maytag!
